Did not taste like the use the usual Vienna Beer dogs ubiquitous near Chicago. Don't know what brand they use though my very favorite Leon's Natural Casing Weiners seems impossible to find anymore. Next time through will have to try something else on the menu, but noticed they close fairly early as on my way back from Michigan one evening I stopped in but they were already closed. There is pretty much nowhere to eat on 57 after Kankakee until you hit Gilman and US 24, then another long drought in food and services until Champaign County.

Perhaps the most notorious replacement was Piggies(or something like that name). The owner in the 1980's painted the building pink as an act of defiance against the village. Later, the owner took it one step further and set fire to the building to gather Insurance proceeds. He was convicted of arson in local circuit court. Well, as I said, a few months ago, I decided to try the new restaurant occupying this classic downtown space on Broadway. I was relatively optimistic as I entered the restaurant with a friend. We selected a booth with an excellent view of the then operating dry cleaner across the street. I chose as my meal a basic breakfast staple: French toast... So, nothing fancy, like Eggs Benedict. When my French toast arrived, at first, I thought the waitress had brought the plate to the wrong table, because I did not really recognize the food on my plate as French toast. Well, when questioned, the waitress admitted that the plate she brought to my table was in fact the order I had placed. So, I settled in and began to eat the food on my plate. It resembled in some ways French toast, I suppose. But, in critical ways, related to texture and taste what I tried to eat was not French toast. Rather, it was somebody's idea of a concoction that built upon the concept of French toast. Perhaps that was a good artistic idea, but it did not satisfy my need for French toast. I think this place has loads of potential, but needs to slow a bit to make sure their basics are done correctly.

While recovering from surgery, I ordered McDonald's from Door Dash twice. Both times the Door Dash label on the outside of the bag was correct, while the contents were completely wrong. When going through the drive through, on four separate times, a sandwich was missing. Last week the milk was missing from my grandson's happy meal. Saturday, when asked to pull forward to wait for our food, we waited 25 minutes. I finally got out of my car, went inside, and the inside was not busy. There were no customers at the counter, but there were 3 employees leaning on the other side, chatting. I inquired about my order. One worker looked over at a sack, and said oh that's her food right there go ahead and give it to her. It was cold. I did not bother to complain, because they just don't care.
