We were waiting patiently in the drive through, having our own private conversation, when the employee went over the speaker and yelled at us to get out of her drive through if we weren't okay waiting. We were caught off guard, considering we were not talking about the wait what's so ever. She then told us we were cussing on her head set and we could leave. Hubby went through the drive through and used my gift card and bought an M&M blizzard for me and a sundae for himself. The blizzard was awful! It was almost all M&Ms and not enough ice cream. The total came to $11-something and the gift card was $10. The card was declined even though there was plenty of money in the bank. Went to the Dairy Queen off Lincoln Way for a treat with my boyfriend. I'm from out of town and never had a bad experience until coming to Ames. I was enjoying my strawberry cheesecake blizzard like i usually do time to time. I was halfway through my blizzard when i found an absolutely disgusting hair in my ice cream. This is extremely unacceptable. I am utterly disgusted by this occurrence and i will NOT be giving this Dairy Queen any business any time soon. literally can not believe the customer service I just got. I've been working in the service industry for years and am appalled because this is not how a customer should be treated. we ordered through the drive two combos with with fries and large sprites with no ice. one an adult grilled cheese and the other a four piece chicken tenders. we also got two blizzards. when we pulled up to window and they asked us what we order because they didn't put it into the pos. this should have been the first sign. so after that we pay and they ask us to pull forward. we wait 10 minutes until they came out with our food. they immediately missed the blizzards so naturally I checked the back to see if everything was there. inside the bag was a large cheese curd, almost $9 which we did not ask for. I went back into the dining room and spoke with a manager about getting our blizzards and also getting the cheese curds taken off out transaction because we never asked for the $9 item. she said no, that I needed to go back and get the large cheese curds in order to be refunded. I asked why, when we didn't even order them, waited 10 minutes for probably that item and never received our blizzards. she literally said to my face, yeah ... and walked away. another employee grabbed our blizzards for the freezer and handed them to us, didn't flip them like dq says in there marketing, and with no spoons. I asked for spoons and left because it was not going to fight this anymore, simply wasn't going anywhere. oh and also our drinks were filled with ice. read more

Sunday was our last full day in Iowa, and after returning from West Des Moines to see my Sister and her family, Gayle wanted one last chance to DQ. This Lincoln Way location was our well considered choice. Yes, there is better ice cream out there, but our shared Midwest traditions around Dilly Bars, Buster Bars, and Blizzards are very comforting. The service here is usually very great and staff is always friendly. I was disappointed after my visit today -- I stopped in to get some ice cream and went into the store instead of the drive thru this time. I was never asked if my order was to go so I assumed the girl making my orders assumed that they were. Long story short, I didn't receive any lids and by the time I returned to my apartment, less than 2 minutes away, my blizzard was melted and making a mess. I payed extra for cheese on my chili cheese dog and they served it in a wrapper (so all the cheese was on the wrapper and inedible unless you wanted to eat paper) I came back up to the counter to ask for them to put some cheese on top of the opened hot dog because I didn't really care, I just wanted the cheese that I payed for. The guy working at the counter was very nice and said that he would take care of it right away and took it into the back only to come back, sans hot dog, saying the manager was going to remake it. Because of this I requested that it be put in a boat or clamshell. I waited for another 5 minutes and the manager came up and handed me a box and when I opened it, surprise surprise, another hot dog in a wrapper. I tried to explain why I didn't want it to be wrapped up and would have preferred a boat and would love if she could just sprinkle some more cheese on the top because it was, yet again, not on the hot dog. She decided instead to rudely accost me with the age old "that's just how we do things here" for another 2 minutes before huffing and going into the back to shove it in a boat with some cheese (finally) Overall some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

Wow.....I ordered cheese balls that cost about $3.50. I received were 9 hollow cheese balls. They barely took up half the dish they were served in. Not to mention half of these were burnt. The ice cream was great, but the service was terrible. We were there on July 3rd, after fireworks. We got there just before closing & the manager was freaking out (loudly) because of the rush of people coming as they were trying to close. She even griped loudly when someone called the store to complain about their bad service. An employee could quietly tell guests that they are no longer open, but that is not what they did.
