This is a chain that is starting to show up more and more. This is the first Iowa location I have been able to try. There was someone out front spinning a sign to get your attention on the location. There is a drive through but we opted to walk in and sit down. Heads up, if this place is busy the chairs are going to fill up fast. We got in line to order. I could easily read the sign on the prices and calorie. Thee do have good options. I picked a small size of the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket-beef brisket smoked, melted cheddar, mayo, and Sweet BBQ Sauce. I did not get a meal, just the sandwich and the dill pickle spear. Hubby got the New York Steamer-Corned beef brisket and pastrami, melted provolone, deli mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing. His was the large size which was $9 dollar sandwich before adding the meal option of a drink and chips. My thought are. For the price I am not sure if it was worth it. Its a little slower for them to make it and make it hot. The hot.. I like, and it was busy so they weren't terribly slow. I think the flavor of my sandwich was good. I think for the price i was expecting a little more girth to my sandwich than what was presented maybe. Granted they have different choices than some other local sub places, and under 500 calorie menu. The location is on a crazy busy Ames street and will be hard to get out of if you are heading back north. I felt like they did a good job, everyone was smiling and kind but just wasnt as impressed as I thought with all the hype I had heard. Most positive thing is the option to donate towards a good cause with every meal.

Fire hats for the kids

The positives: Infinite flavor option Coke machine. Cool Cyclone mural. Hot subs. Vintage Ames fire department photographs. Huge bottled sauce assortment. Free fire hats with kids meals. Drive thru. Good size dining room. 500 calorie and under menu. Dalmatian table tops. The not so positive: Still working out the kinks. Service can be slow. Firehouse Subs is new to Ames, but it's not a new concept. There are 900 or so locations around the country. I've eaten at a few and the service is usually very quick. I'm sure this franchise will eventually get the hang of it as well. Ames is fortunate to have a location with a drive thru. Most locations I've seen don't have one. Overall, a nice food option and a step up from the Subways of the world.

Delicious and nicely made. Service was average, but its location compared to my campus life is less than ideal.

My daughter loved the garden salad with balsamic dressing as well as how crispy the veggies were. The Cajun Fettuccini was nice and creamy with a slight kick from the seasonings; it meshes really well. The Pulled Pork BBQ Mac could've been a little cheesier in my opinion (I like a lot of cheese lol), but overall, the flavor was good and the pork was quite tender. Mixing the flavor of the BBQ with the Mac and the crispy onions was definitely a great choice! Can't forget the cheesy garlic bread, which was so good! It was perfectly soft and crunchy all at the same time and was packed with a garlic punch. I also really enjoyed the lemon Parmesan broccoli. It wasn't overcooked, so it still had a bit of a crunch and the flavor combo was perfect! Service: all of the employees were very nice as well as efficient. We were greeted with a smile and friendly demeanor when we walked in. We ordered take out and our food was ready in a timely manner. Nothing was spilling or overflowing making a mess. All of the food was packed nicely in bags that were sturdy enough to reassure us that the bottoms wouldn't burst out lol. Ambiance/atmosphere: the interior was kept up well and seemed very clean. There was plenty of space to enjoy your meal without being too close to others. It wasn't overly loud inside either.

Strolled in after the lunch rush, was greeted right away, and skimmed the menu for a minute. It's pretty straightforward and delineated well, but I later found there was a discrepancy in pricing between their website and the actual in-store menu. The website menu says a burrito is $7, but in-store, it's listed as 9 bucks, if I remember correctly. I'm realizing now I should've gotten some pictures of it. Sorry, gang; next time. Since I still had some walking to do, I went with the simple corn tortilla taco to go...and got more than I expected. They HEAPED on the meat, boys and girls! A generous amount of asada on my two little tortillas, then they piled my condiments on like they were my grandma who thought I was too skinny. It was glorious; I got basically two LOADED tacos for 3 bucks. My only minor, slight, teeny-tiny disappointment was the relatively scant amount of cilantro on my almost-authentic street tacos. The lime wedge was a fantastic inclusion, and, as I enjoyed my meal by Lake Laverne, I offered that spent citrus crescent to a nearby Canadian goose. He declined my gift. I'll definitely return to Mr. Burrito someday. The food was great, the staff was friendly, and their generous helpings are amazing!

They're quite consistent as well, making sure the wings are done the same way almost every single time. Every now and then, the fries are a little different, but nothing to complain about in my opinion. We tend to opt for the boneless wings, and they're typically really juicy. Also, the cheese fries are absolutely delicious! Their ranch is by far the best out there as well. Service: Our order is almost always ready quickly; sometimes by the time we arrive even, and we only live about ten minutes away. We order online, and they have gotten it right every time. The staff tends to be a little...cold? For lack of a better term. They aren't mean, but you're also not greeted with a smile when you walk in. Ambiance: It's a pretty typical sports-centered restaurant. Not too many decorations or intimate seating styles. They do keep it clean, which is a huge plus. The overall noise level varies, but it never seems to be obnoxiously loud.

From start to finish, this was one of the worst fast-casual dining experiences I've had. First, the white rice was undercooked. Crunchy grains in a burrito bowl is not what anyone expects from a restaurant that supposedly prides itself on fresh, quality ingredients. To make matters worse, they had completely run out of flour tortillas. At a Mexican-style chain, that's beyond unacceptable. The portion sizes were skimpy. My wife had to specifically ask the server for more beans because the amount she was given was laughable. Paying full price for half-filled bowls isn't exactly a value. The dining area was filthy--tables left unwiped, floors sticky, and trash bins overflowing. It felt like nobody cared about keeping the place even minimally clean. Overall, this was not a great experience. Between the poorly prepared food, lack of basic ingredients, stingy portions, and unclean environment, this location really needs some serious management attention. We left disappointed and won't be in a hurry to come back. I will say that the staff was friendly.
