Chicken Salad Sandwich

Yummy with a capital Y! Not only does this location have plenty of indoor/outdoor seating but the staff were beyond helpful. Oh and the food was great! The menu has so many options for breakfast and lunch. You can customize your sandwich (but why would you, the sandwich's are fully loaded) I got the spicy apple bacon sandwich on sourdough. Bread had the perfect crisp to it. Great quality you can taste. I will be back!

After 4 years living in Ames, this was such a great discovery! The bakery has a very nice laid back ambiance, making you feel comfortable. The food is absolutely delicious and fresh. Staff also provided great service and were really nice. Will definitely be going back to try other items.

Cold and rainy outside - warm bread, soup and coffee inside!

Not my first time at GHB&C, but my first review. This place hasn't been in Ames too long, but they really do a great job of serving their customers. Great Harvest is more than just a bakery that makes good bread - they have a nice menu of sandwiches, soups and salads, all are good from my experiences so far. I love their peppered blue roast beef. Nothing beats a good sandwich with fresh meat and great homeade bread! I also like their turkey chile cheddar melt. I had that last time I was here and it's a nice warm sandwich on a cold day. The feel is casual and totally laid back. They have music playing over the loud speakers, nothing too annoying as to wreck the ambiance. This is a great place to grab a quick bite, take a coffee break and enjoy one of their fresh-baked pastries or just come in and get a fresh loaf to take home. The service is fast and friendly. This is quickly turning into one of my favorite locations here in Ames.

You're going to order the broccoli reuben (not available on weekends). You're going to leave a changed person. The Dot is cozy! When my parents visited me up here, they requested multiple Dot trips. It's really that good. For some historical context for the curious, The Dot moved into the building formerly occupied by Daytime Diner. Daytime was one of my favorite places in Ames, but their pipes burst during the intense blizzard we had back in January of 2024. You can still see one of their stickers in the doorframe of the leopard bathroom. They reopened much later with weird hours and a flipped ordering system, and they were unable to stay afloat. I was devastated. But, The Dot has moved in to surpass what Daytime was able to achieve. Ames continues to have innovative and exciting food options!

However one complaint was that dine in was a bit awkward when I went, you order your food at the register, and if you see a spot open you just have to grab it. One more thing is you have to wait for a staff to clear it off before you can sit down. And theres a crowd of people awkwardly standing around by the register during their peak hours since it's not that big of a building. Feels like they should just encourage people to put away their dishes at a certain spot if customers can sit anywhere. Overall a really nice brunch spot and I will be back to try their other items. OMG, this place is in such a nice area! They have a huge menu with so many amazing options to…read morechoose from. I ordered the Pit Master Sandwich with a side of French onion soup (you get to choose a side with the sandwich). The sandwich was really good! The bread was buttery and soft, and the homemade croutons in the soup were clearly made from fresh bread. The French onion soup wasn't for me--it kind of tasted like acid reflux to me, so I gave it to my mom. She actually thought it was pretty good. The sandwich had perfectly balanced barbecue sauce and cheese, although I thought the barbecue sauce overpowered the cheese a bit. Next time, I'd probably order it without the cheese. The brisket was good, but I would've preferred a fattier cut because I think it would have been more flavorful. I also wasn't a fan of the Gouda since it didn't melt very well, but the other cheese on the sandwich was delicious. Overall, the food was incredible, and this place is an absolute MUST if you're in the area! I noticed they have around 78,000 DoorDash orders, and after eating here, I can definitely see why. I'll actually be coming back in a few days before I leave my vacation because there are so many other delicious items on the menu that I can't wait to try! Staff were also nice!

They have a celiac button to warn staff to be extra careful and even have gluten sensitive desserts including: cookies, donuts, scones, and slices of cake everyday. I will say I am disappointed about finding out the breakfast potatoes are not gluten free. I only recently found out and have now figured out that I have been glutening myself off and on since July 3rd. I did have one major screwup a few weeks ago too. I did a pickup order for the quinoa powerbowl. The cook substituted my quinoa for couscous even though my food was marked celiac. Only figured it out after taking a bite. Couscous is apparently new to the fall menu. I really wish the food allergen training was better done in staff training. No person seems to have the same training on the safety and what food allergens are in what food. This was what I thought was a safe place for me which is why I have continued to come. I now take extra caution when I do stop. Today was good. I grabbed a Baja chicken rice bowl, no pepper jack or ranch. They actually had cinnamon roll cake (looked more like coffee cake with frosting on top) which is a first for them, it was really good. My mom grabbed a grilled cheese and her all time favorite carmalita bar.
