    shitty "matcha"

i ordered a matcha and it came out hot when i asked for ice, she changed it to iced and it didn't have any match power and it was filled 1/4ths way with vanilla syrup. i am not picky but i literally can't drink this and i just wasted 7 dollars on this. the lady running the register is genuinely one of the most idiotic employees ive ever met.

One of the best restaurants in Ames, I'm telling you the vibes are great with a great view of the city while eating alongside comfortable ambiance. If you aren't dining in, it is a great place to get work done or just to get a treat for surviving the end of the week.

Clouds just opened this past week, but I expect them to receive more popularity the longer they're around. The environment within clouds consists of a two-floor surreal oasis. There is a large variety of creative seating, and the combination of cafe and restaurant gives this place versatility. I feel that this is unlike any other place in ames. The desserts were great, but the pricing of the coffee drinks for what they are was a little high. According to the owner, the rest of the menu is slowly being released for the next couple weeks, which brings excitement of what they are planning to offer. If still available, I strongly recommend the Apple Tuile Mousse. Great concept of a French dessert. Looking forward to seeing them continue to learn and establish a presence here.

I had heard a lot about this new place in Ames so I decided I should check it out. I went there with a friend just to get coffee so I cannot speak for the food. First, the atmosphere and the views are fantastic, by far the best in Ames. The lower level has a nice more formal feel while the top tier is a great place to hang out and have some coffee with a great view. The coffee is expensive and it is honestly pretty average, I was expecting a little bit more from the price. Overall though this is a really nice place to hang out with a great atmosphere, just wish they had a little bit better coffee at the price they are charging. Definitely check it out!

The food/menu is nothing special. There is no table service. Order and pick up at the counter.

I have been wanting to check out The Nook and this coffee shop for a while. It was pretty packed inside but service was fast. I loved the mocktails they had on the menu. I went with an iced strawberry matcha. OMG! It was fabulous. Tasted like Strawberry Quik but in the best possible matcha way. There's lots of seating areas or you can just go next door to browse. There's an upper level with tables, too.

They sell flatbreads and avocado toast. I will say I am a bit confused on why the avocado toast is not listed as having a gluten free option. It's made with schaar bread and oh so good! There is a way to make the avocado toast dairy free too. If you have a gluten and dairy allergy like I do, none of the baked goods are dairy free. I ended up ordering an Oscar Wilde Berry Lemonade. Service was fast. I had my drink within minutes of ordering. It was the perfect amount of refreshing for a hot summer day and I loved the faint hint of lavender as well. I did also make sure to bring up the fact they may want to look into listing the gluten free option for the avocado toast because it is not stated anywhere on the menu.

Disappointed to say the least, I came in the back door not realized there was a correct door and was rudely cut off by other patrons at the front desk. I had to wait several minutes to be waited on and the place had plenty of spots. Maybe because I was a party of 1... they didn't seem to care. After I shared what drink I wanted, I learned they were out... fine no problem. I asked about the Thai specials, the waitress was clueless. I had to ask for the restaurant week menu and ask about the specials. She said they looked good but couldn't describe them and hasn't tasted them. I got the salad on special, but get this... they were out of the main restaurant week special... such a let down. The ambiance was mixed, one corner was a cute date night the other corner was crying children. All dimly lit and outdated decor. The whole experience was off, I ended up leaving after my one drink and salad. I hope to give this place a second chance sometime but hope they aren't out of dishes and I can get a trained server. Maybe another night for sure!

You're going to order the broccoli reuben (not available on weekends). You're going to leave a changed person. The Dot is cozy! When my parents visited me up here, they requested multiple Dot trips. It's really that good. For some historical context for the curious, The Dot moved into the building formerly occupied by Daytime Diner. Daytime was one of my favorite places in Ames, but their pipes burst during the intense blizzard we had back in January of 2024. You can still see one of their stickers in the doorframe of the leopard bathroom. They reopened much later with weird hours and a flipped ordering system, and they were unable to stay afloat. I was devastated. But, The Dot has moved in to surpass what Daytime was able to achieve. Ames continues to have innovative and exciting food options!

However one complaint was that dine in was a bit awkward when I went, you order your food at the register, and if you see a spot open you just have to grab it. One more thing is you have to wait for a staff to clear it off before you can sit down. And theres a crowd of people awkwardly standing around by the register during their peak hours since it's not that big of a building. Feels like they should just encourage people to put away their dishes at a certain spot if customers can sit anywhere. Overall a really nice brunch spot and I will be back to try their other items. The latte was too salty and too sweet and the espresso shots were weak while the milk wasn't frothed properly to be a real latte. I can't accept that just because I'm in a small town or a state like Iowa, quality needs to be compromised. There was not a design in my latte either and it definitely wasn't possible with the milk that was frothed.
