Sadly, this place is not what it used to be. It used to serve delicious asian food, it used to be a favorite joint and we used to dine here quite often. Now they serve awfully bland food. The quantity is small, price has increased and taste is nowhere to be found. We ordered, Pad Woon Sen - the noodles were sticky (yuck!) and it was served with a big serving of rice !!!! Who eats noodles with rice?!!! Pad Kra Pow (beef) - it came with a large portion of rice and teeny tiny amount of beef with a sauce that was as salty as sea water. My hunch is that the chef or the owner of this place has changed, which has caused this drastic fall in quality. I am never going back to this place. And I do not recommend this place to anyone who loves/appreciates 'real' asian food in america. read more

I love coming here for lunch! My go-to orders include their Pad see ew, Massaman curry, and yellow curry. They're delicious. The staff is always kind and attentive. Went to Thai Kitchen today while in Ames. Came in and ordered at the register before sitting down. The place seemed like a fast food place by the way the service works where you have to order at the register and grab your own water. Their Gluten-free options are limited to the curries and fried rice. So we got the red curry with chicken and gluten free fried rice with chicken and shrimp. I love me some Thai Iced milk tea so I ordered some and I was disappointed when I got it. The Thai milk tea was so sweet and tasted more like sugary milk rather than the strong taste of Thai black tea. The fried rice was tasty and my husband enjoyed the red curry. Unfortunately I was not blown away but I see how this is a popular place because they are quick at bringing out your food and drinks. Cute little restaurant near Iowa State! Very friendly customer service and easy to order your food for pick up over the phone. I called and my order was ready in just 15 minutes. They also accept Apple pay, which is convenient. My family enjoyed the panang beef curry and the chicken krapow fried rice! Overall, they were flavorful and good for takeout food. In a town with a lot of good Asian food, Thai Kitchen is now in my top 3. Their pad Thai was solid. My daughter had an amazing soup. Yesterday was my cheat day and I was in the mood for some fast food :-P. Ordered takeout of red curry rice. Food was ready in 20 minutes and was still warm when I started eating. Rice was well-cooked, chicken was tender and the flavors blended well. I even had leftovers for the next day :) Overall, everything was good. Quick disclaimer: I went to Thai Kitchen today, not for a meal, but to sample their spring rolls. This is a nice little place for a inexpensive lunch with quick service, but I can't speak to how their meals actually taste. Yet. The space was open and clean, but I had the weirdest feeling the place used to be an old Long John Silver's. I mean, it wasn't--I know this area, and there never was one around here--but I kinda felt "below decks". Almost like I had to hunch down, lest I smack my head on an overhead beam. Anyway, I have to say, these have been the best spring rolls I've found in Ames so far. Light, flaky exteriors with a nigh-shattering crispy bite, and a perfectly suitable interior. I doubt these had any meat in them, but that doesn't matter; they were hot, fresh, and delicious, with no hint of old oil, as tends to happen in some places. To go with them, the "Crab Delights" were an equally crispy shell wrapped around a modest amount of cream cheese filling. That's not a complaint; you get six in an order so they're naturally going to be smaller in size. The included dipping sauce (sweet chili, I think) was fantastic, too. And then there was dessert. Wasn't really planning on having any, but once I saw a "Fried Choco Banana" on the menu, I went for it. Again; light, crispy exterior, cooked to a perfect golden brown, lightly dusted with powdered sugar. I don't know what corner of the world this stealthily decadent treat was dreamt up in, but you might need a shot of milk to wash it down. It's RICH, I tells ya! That combo of banana and chocolate in that shell was incredible. Might have been more appropriate on cooler day, but I don't regret trying it. And they give you honey to dip it in or drizzle over the top! This is NOT for those who are casual fans of sweets. You've been warned--and bring a friend to try the other one. The staff was friendly and efficient; orders were taken quickly and came out in a good time. They have a counter just past the cash register that acts as both a order assembly station and condiment bar. Decent inside seating for the size of the place and a few tables outside if you so choose. Didn't check the restrooms. I'm going to have to come back sometime and actually get lunch. read more

Overall, great atmosphere and friendly employees. The consistency of the red curry was a bit watery, but had great flavor and a nice spice level. Crab rangoons had an oddly satisfying crunchy texture and an abundant filing with a lot of imitation crab and great flavor. The beef pad thai was very dry and the noodles were undercooked. It was a one-note dish because there was no sour or sweet element to the dish and that's what you expect from Thai cuisine. The tofu was dry and when asked for a wedge of lime, I was told they only carry packets of lemon juice. Up in Ames and craving Thai. This was the location in campus area. Heavy traffic due to the location. I read through some reviews and went ahead and took a chance. My friends were really excited that we stopped. You walk in and you place an order at the walk up counter. Then they gave us a number. We walk down around the side of the counter and got our extras needed for our meal. Then we went to sit outside. I got the Pad Thai and my friends got the Thai Fried Rice; fried rice with either chicken, pork or beef and vegetables, egg, tomatoes and thai seasoning and a chicken stir fry meal. I tried them again and I'm upset I wasted money on my birthday. Multiple people said the food improved under new ownership and was good again. My boss and I went in, ordered at the counter and they brought out the food. It was delicious. I got the beef Pad Key Mao and we got their spring rolls as appetizers. The Pad Key Mao was delicious. Would have been five Stars if the staff wore masks. If you are going to close the dining room might as well wear a mask. I found the servings to be smaller then other Thai restaurants all over the country. My daughters fried tofu were very small and way over cooked, lots of chewing. Amazing Thai food. Loved the beef soup. Loved the seafood curry. And loved the spicy fish dish. Only complaint is they didn't have dumplings. Said they were all sold out :( I love dumplings so this was disappointing. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is well kept and the food was absolutely amazing. Very flavorful and full of seasoning and flavor. I need to come back here if and when I'm in Ames. Make sure to note parking signs before parking. I have really been digging thai kitchen more and more. Years ago, I found their food to be greasy and more fast food like. The food now is very good. Its not knock your socks off thai food but it is good. It seems busier after undergoing a building renovation and yet it still maintains its dive like feel. The menu is huge. I mean pages huge. They will make your food spicier but I have yet to have them serve me "thai hot" when I explain that I prefer spicy. I wish for more heat but they do have nice condiments at the condiment bar that help. Most will find that not a problem. If you are used to 5 stars burning your face off, I do not find that to be true here. This means you will have to make polite conversation with your dinner partner as you will not be sweating or releasing hot food endorphins. The thai ice tea is good here and you can get it with or without jellies (not boba like bubble tea tapioca but jellies). I order it every time. The crab rangoon is better here than many places. There is no alcohol so if that matters to you, you should know. I don't mind but if you must drink a singha with your thai, don't plan on it here. Casual and quaint in a come as you are way, this is good. Oh, often the meal comes as it is cooked so a meal followed by an appetizer and then maybe the other meal and your drinks. Having worked in restaurants, I find this irritating but if I can let it go and enjoy I find it is not a big deal and maybe even adds to the feel of the place. read more

This was an honest surprise to me. At first, we weren't sure if we had the right address, so they should get a window sign or something. When you walk in you place your order at the counter. The menu is pretty extensive but ridiculously fair priced. I ordered the pad thai with no tofu or onions and spring rolls. I then figured out you go get your silverware and water from the other side of the counter and then seat yourself. They give you a number and bring it out to you. I really enjoyed the crispy spring rolls. I was skeptical of my pad thai because it doesn't look like typical pad thai. It had almost an orange color which concerned me. It was actually really good. I didn't really like the chicken but I'd try it with beef next time as it seemed more fitting. I thought I took a picture of it but apparently I didn't. Sorry about that. Every time I come here for work, my boss orders Thai Kitchen to the office. I asked him what to get the very first time and, since then, I've always ordered the same thing and today was no exception. I've gotten the Pad Kee Mao and we usually throw some sriracha on top of it at the office. If you like spice, you can't go wrong with this. I always get it with beef. Feeling hungry this time, I decided to order a $10 sweet and sour chicken dish. After a lengthy wait, our food came out. Not only was the white rice lukewarm, but to my dismay, there were just 5 miniature pieces of chicken on my plate. I thought this must be a mistake, so I mentioned it to the older woman who brought us our food. She was extremely grumpy and mumbled something at us before scurrying off to the kitchen. My guess is that she did not understand what I was saying, so she brought out the other woman working at the register. She came over and insisted that they count the pieces of chicken for each meal and it is always that many. I did not want to argue, so I went ahead and finished the meal. It did not even put a dent in my appetite. I can tell you this dish looks nothing like the one on the menu, which has at least three times the amount of meat. Bottom line is, I will not be returning. I've been coming here for about a year now and the food quality and quantity has been consistent, not only that but also delicious! I usually order the Pad See Ew but I was also recommended the Panang curry and the Pad Kra Prow which both were amazing recommendations. I eat here maybe once a week or once every other week. The food is pretty good for the price. The taste is a little Americanized but it's much better than another Thai restaurant that I've been to in Ames. This one is my go to! Not really a gripe about this particular Thai restaurant as it seems it's an issue with every Thai place but the Levels of spice are never consistent. I could order level 3 one time and not break a sweat and level 3 another time and died and went to heaven. Other than that, I like the food.
