Getting stuck in line behind a guy placing an order for the office is going to put a dent in your day. That said, my roasted turkey sandwich on rye was delish! Sweet and juicy turkey breast, sliced and piled high with my choice of cheese and fixings. Paired with a bag of chips and a "pop" from the soda fountain, it was a perfect lunch. Show up after 1:00 and you might find a shorter line. Just don't get stuck behind "that guy".

I had to ask for the restaurant week menu and ask about the specials. She said they looked good but couldn't describe them and hasn't tasted them. I got the salad on special, but get this... they were out of the main restaurant week special... such a let down. The ambiance was mixed, one corner was a cute date night the other corner was crying children. All dimly lit and outdated decor. The whole experience was off, I ended up leaving after my one drink and salad. I hope to give this place a second chance sometime but hope they aren't out of dishes and I can get a trained server. Maybe another night for sure!

I had a breakfast sandwich with ham, eggs, cheese and avocado on a savory biscuit. When I brought it back to work everyone was huddling around loving the glorious smell. It was amazing. I also came home with a scone the size of my head. It was wonderful!! I can't wait to try other flavors. We will be heading here again next week for our weekly management meeting as everyone is excited to try it for themselves. Casual environment and very good staff. This place has it all!

West Street Deli is just down the street from my Ames Barber (Troy) and just as close to Mother's Pub. The street is its own little business District, and feels far away from Lincoln Way. I ordered a Cajun Tuna Melt which was unlike any sandwich of this type that I had experienced. It was well prepared and was flavorful in many ways, including a little kick at the end. A beer would have gone well with this, but I stayed with water, while comfortably seated by a window within their dining room. A very pleasant experience and a for sure future visit.

Their food is sometimes fine, if you actually get what you order. But that alone only happens maybe half the time. But even if you do get what you order, half the time it is often not what is advertised. They say that the braised pork Mao's family style is spicy: it is not. I've gotten the exact same meal when I ordered crispy sweet and sour fish, as when I ordered fragrant and spicy fish. Every once in a while, I've gotten good food from here. And for a long time, I was just resigned to getting mediocre food. But after four years of living in this town, I will now be graduating soon, and I will not seek this place out again when I come back. One star is the lowest this website goes, leaving four stars of flexibility. Minus two stars for frequent order mix-ups, and minus one more star for the food not being what is advertised, even if you get what you think you ordered. read more

We tried a couple of appetizers and they were really good! The Komodo Sticks are a newfound favorite lol. Also, we decided to give some sake a try; two different flavors. The Hana Fuji Apple is definitely preferred over the Moonstone Plum. The Hana Fuji Apple sake tastes similar to an Apple Jolly Rancher, but the Moonstone Plum sake tastes almost as if you're drinking a perfume; not in a bad way, just unexpected. A Teppanyaki Steak Hibachi Bento Box was also ordered to share, and it was great! The steak was savory and delicate without being overcooked. Service: Our waitress was awesome! She greeted us with a smile as well as a great, upbeat attitude. All of our questions were answered with knowledge instead of guesses and she even made great recommendations. She was quick and non-intrusive. All of the kitchen staff were fantastic as well; working quickly and efficiently. Ambiance: Inside is small, quaint, almost intimate, and pretty quiet. You're able to see the chefs work as they prepare the food, without being overwhelmed by kitchen noises or smells. Speaking of, it smelled great in there! Not surprisingly, it was pretty quiet but we were glad to find a decent place to eat at that hour. We ordered 4 rolls that were recommended by the server. Portions and prices were reasonable. I can't say it was the best sushi I've ever had, but I was impressed. Maybe I had low expectations for sushi in a college town in the middle (literally) of farm country, but I thought our food was really good. I liked the Asian bar vibe. Save for a few ISU pennants and other memorabilia, it was pretty easy to imagine we were in a small sushi bar in rural Japan. Having never been to Japan, I am probably way off on that, but the atmosphere was way better than most of the strip mall sushi places we usually go to. All in all, pretty good! I'd definitely go again.
