Masks are mandatory which I love! I'm happy to support this cuteee shop whose employees go out of their way to serve their customers. Got an Iced mocha for a friend(Iced during December? I know, he's crazy ;)) and ****Creme Brulee Coffee Cake**** YUMMMM. So tough to decide which is better- Old fashioned or the Creme Brulee. Tip: Try both :-D

Always great friendly service! I love getting the different iced mochas, half sweet. Cabin coffee introduced me to my first coffee drink about 15 years ago(in Mason City) and I'm so happy to have one close by now! It always takes me back

I finally got to try this place while I was in town for work. I'd heard great things so I wanted to check it out myself! The parking lot was a bit confusing but I eventually got inside. I took forever scanning the menu but finally decided on a coconut latte and a slice of creme brulee coffee cake. While I waited I looked at the decor and it just felt so homey! Once I got my order I snagged a quick bite of my cake and it was mindboggling good! I really appreciated the recommendation by the gal that took my order. My latte was okay but I'm pretty sure it didn't have any coconut syrup in it cuz it only tasted like espresso, which was a bummer. The decor is for sale which I thought was cool. The cups, mugs, and shirts for sale were very cute as well. I would like to come back to enjoy my coffee and cake onsite!

I've past this place numerous times and decided that a rainy day was the perfect time to stop in. I stopped in around 12:30 on a Friday, the place only had a few customers so I was able to snag a spot next to the fire place... now, around 1:30 or so they turned it off, no heads up, but I don't think it actually gave off heat. I ordered a turtle mocha, it was AMAZING! I also ordered a cabin club sandwich, great size and portion.. nothing really special, I do like that the bacon wasn't in strips, it was in a round shape so every bite had bacon in it. Great touch! A customer in the drive thru ordered and didn't have their wallet, so the staff offered me the drink free. Feel bad for the poor guy, but i got to try something new (a white coffee drink with half/half and vanilla) safe to say I will be back!

Wow, I guess I am the first one to review this new location in Ames! I've been to the Cabin Coffee location in Clear Lake and was quite impressed with that one, so when this opened in Ames is pretty pumped up about going. Today, on this super cold and snowy January morning I stepped into a VERY busy Cabin Coffee on E. 13th St. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait long to get our order in. The decor is Western-themed and they have a lot of nice amenities that you wouldn't find in most coffee shops. One such is their ability to roast their own beans on-site. Even many well-known coffeehouses can't offer this. One unique thing to mention is their meeting room in the back. This is a great feature for those morning business get-togethers. It's pretty busy in there but feels homey. They sell lots of gift items, including bagged freshly-ground coffee, coffee mugs, tumblers, presses and even clothing. The menu is pretty good sized. They make many specialty hot and cold drinks and have at least five different plain coffee brews available at all times. You can get a few good breakfast sandwiches and pastries for breakfast and a variety of sandwiches for lunch. I had a breakfast sandwich with egg, monterey jack cheese and sausage on a bagel. It was great. My drink was the Tumbleweed, which consists of a highly-caffeinated white coffee, caramel, whipped cream and sea salt. I've been told the mocha drinks are good and will try one of those next time I'm in. Overall, I really like this place. It's a nice atmosphere with friendly staff, good food and great coffee. My only regret is that this coffee shop wasn't in Ames ten years ago. I highly recommend it!

Visited twice on recent business trip to area. Great medium roast coffee. Coworker had ice coffees and frappes. No complaints.

4/14/26 3:15 p.m…read more Online Order for Pick Up Food: We were very excited to try the food here, but we weren't too impressed, unfortunately. We ordered a Caesar Wrap w/chicken, Chicken Pesto w/no cherry tomatoes, Firehouse Chimichurri w/steak and no cherry tomatoes, Chocolate Smoothie, and Farmer's Punch. For starters, all of the produce was fresh and crisp (which is always a plus), but you can tell that meat is not their forte. The chicken tasted as if it were precooked, frozen chicken (not saying that's a bad thing, just didn't seem as if it was freshly cooked), and the steak was full of almost inedible gristle. The overall flavor of the food was pretty lackluster as well, besides on the Chicken Pesto; the balsamic vinaigrette was very overpowering. The Caesar Wrap was large, but the sandwiches were quite small portion-wise. The Chocolate Smoothie tasted more like a green smoothie with chocolate protein powder, and we had a really hard time keeping it mixed; sadly, we didn't finish it :( The Farmer's Punch, on the other hand, was really good! Service: The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. The person who greeted us was friendly, but not particularly social, if that makes sense? It almost seemed as if they didn't have enough time for us. They were polite and quick with getting our order to us, though. Ambiance: Inside is quite small and not meant for a dine-in experience; there are no tables at all. This is definitely a pick-up/to-go/drive-through type of establishment. It's kept very clean, though, from what we could see.

The page doesn't show that anywhere, so I…read morewant to make sure you know! :) When looking at the front side of the building, the Starbucks is located closer to the right-hand side near the deli area and AWAY from the wine and spirits part of the building. As for the location itself, it's one of my favorites. Unlike a lot of in-store Starbucks locations (like in Target or Hy-Vee), this one isn't actually in its own segregated area. It has a tiny spot that it "has", but it's only a couple feet away from the actual aisles themselves. It gives a really neat feeling to it, but at the same time, it also cuts away from the actual "room" of the store. That means there are only two tables, with two chairs each, in the area, and it can be hard to get a full-sized Hy-Vee cart around here. It doesn't really seem like this location was designed for you to "sit and chat" like most Starbucks. That being said, this is still one of my favorites. I love being able to stop into Hy-Vee, get groceries, and have my Starbucks ready to go. When lines are short in Hy-Vee and I only have a few items to buy, I'll even come order my drink here, go check out, and they'll have my drink ready for me when I'm done checking out. There usually isn't much of a wait to get your drink, but usually there are only two people working, so if there's a random rush of people for some reason, they can get a bit backlogged. I've never had much of an issue, though. I came around here often enough that the staff actually remembered my name and my drink. Most of the staff has moved on from then, but they still will give me a smile and a wave if I walk by. My drink is always very similar - even if different baristas make it. At other locations, I usually have a bit of variance in the taste, but I can always expect it to taste correctly and to be made well when I shop here. I don't think I've ever had an issue with the taste of my drink here, and I've ordered here hundreds of times. (It might have hit the thousands, honestly, over the last five years?) As a random note, this location seems to have a wider range of teas than some of the other locations in Ames. This location used to have a lot of rewards programs including one that worked with the Fuel Saver card or a punch card. Both rewards programs have been ceased. I'm really sad as it was part of what made this location so much fun to go to. Notes: You could potentially use the Hy-Vee deli area seating as seating for chilling and lounging though I'm unsure how orthodox that would be. Hy-Vee has bike parking outside. Hy-vee also has outdoor benches and tables that are out year-round that are rarely busy, so you could definitely use that as a lounging area to talk with someone while drinking your coffee. Final thoughts: I love this location. It's always clean, and while it doesn't have much room to chill or lounge, the employees have always been super friendly, and I love that I can count on them to get my drink right every time. Not only that, but it's great to pick up my coffee after my shopping. I'm sad they don't have the rewards programs anymore, but it's still a great location.
