They're quite consistent as well, making sure the wings are done the same way almost every single time. Every now and then, the fries are a little different, but nothing to complain about in my opinion. We tend to opt for the boneless wings, and they're typically really juicy. Also, the cheese fries are absolutely delicious! Their ranch is by far the best out there as well. Service: Our order is almost always ready quickly; sometimes by the time we arrive even, and we only live about ten minutes away. We order online, and they have gotten it right every time. The staff tends to be a little...cold? For lack of a better term. They aren't mean, but you're also not greeted with a smile when you walk in. Ambiance: It's a pretty typical sports-centered restaurant. Not too many decorations or intimate seating styles. They do keep it clean, which is a huge plus. To start I ordered a simple meal and my name was never called even after 45 mins. I then had to personally go up to them and tell them my order for them to put it together and give it to me. Next I open my box to the wrong food and have to go and get it switched. Not only that but the fries were soggy and plain. Huge Wingstop fan so when I saw there was a location opening up in central Iowa, I was all over it. I would say it was just short of being a stalker. Now that it is open, I can say it lives up to my excitement. I have been to quite a few of them from ones in California to Texas and others. This one looks just like all of them except it has a lot of Senaca Wallace's memorabilia. He is the franchisee for this location. While I was here he stopped in briefly to check on things, said hi to the customers and took off. The food is as I expected. The same quality Wingstop wings. The mango habanero and lemon pepper are some of the best around. The wings are crispy. The veggie side is fresh and tasty to balance out the less healthy but so yummy wings. While there was a wait, the staff was working hard to turn out hot and fast food. I can't wait to come back again and hopefully they open a location in Ankeny soon. read more

I had high hopes and I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. I hate when chain restaurants all taste differently because of regional variances and taste palates. Wingstop was a personal favorite of mine back in Houston, and every college town needs one. This franchise location is owned and operated by Seneca Wallace, former football player for Iowa State as well as multiple NFL teams. He was there the entire time we visited, talking to customers, and cleaning tables - supporting the team as good leaders do. Yummy wings, sports on the tv, nice clean dining area - a typical great Wingstop. The only drawbacks are standard; long waits as they stay busy with lines of customers. Don't expect to be in and out in less than 30 minutes. read more

I'm updating my original review. We got carry out tonight, the only other time I've been was right after they opened. I hadn't returned because everything was excessively salty and dry, very little flavor. Tonight we ordered ahead online and picked up some wings, tenders and fries. The price was spot on, the food was ready right when they said it would be (instead of 15 minutes before or 10 minutes after), and quite frankly, it was really good. The mango habanero sauce was tasty, though I would vote for a little more heat. Korean BBQ was okay, and the Hawaiian sauce was very good. The yelp reviews brought me in. The wings would bring me back. In Ames very rarely we were going to go try a new restaurant. Our first stop the weight was over 45 min and I was already hungry so I will admit by the time we arrived I was a bit grumpy. We walked into a line a the regsiter. The menu is availble on the counter or behind the college students running the counter. Most people were awaiting their orders which worried me a bit. We tried to make a quick decision and put in an order for a couple types of wings and the carrots and celery sticks. You get to pick your sauce and your dipping sauces at the counter when you order. What kinda rubbed me the wrong way was that they decided to share how long the food would take after she already took my money. Almost 20 -30min for chicken wings. My feelings were mixed cause I was getting Hangry but I knew they would be fresh. We were getting a combo which automatically comes with a drink. We were given glasses and you turn around and go to the all-in-one coca cola machine behind you. Of course, they are working on replacing something in it, so you cant even get ice for the tea while they did that. So I grab my silverware and napkins and find a seat in the back area. There are multiple TV and the place is busy. It is a good 25 min and they finally bellowed our name to get our wings. The wings: Hot, fresh, and crispy liked I had hoped. The price was a little high I thought for what we got, however they tasted really good and I was soon not so grumpy. Wish I could give zero stars. This place is terrible. This place has had pretty poor customer service since it opened, but it seems to be getting worse. Tonight I placed an online order which said it would be done in 20-25 minutes. I arrived at the store about 30 minutes after placing the order. There were several other customers sitting down and a few more standing around waiting to order or for their orders. There was one guy up at the register asking for a refund on his order since he had been waiting over and hour. After hearing this I knew this would probably be a long wait to get my online order. They had 7 employees working and none of them really seemed to care about filling orders or communicating with customers why it was taking so long or when their order would come up. Multiple customers left without their order or even bothering with a refund. The girl up at the register was everywhere but at the register to talk to customers. None of the employees in the kitchen had hats or hair nets on. Of course no gloves or hand washing in sight either. TK, who claims he was the manager went up to the register to issue the refund to the guest when I walked in the door. He didn't look at the guy, apologize or really even acknowledge the terrible service at all. After witnessing others in the same situation as me I went to the pickup section and asked if there was an eta on my order that had been placed over an hour ago at this point. The kid asked what my name was and never came back to tell me. About 15 minutes later my name was called that my order was done. As I took my order and walked out several people were also complaining about the employee's engagement to anything that related to customers or completing orders. I wished them luck on my way out and I thought I was done with this place. Well this one is in me, I should of checked the order after that experience. When I got home and pulled it out of the bag, it was completely the wrong order. At this point I'm 2 hours after placing my online ordering and pretty pissed off. I called the store and spoke with TK, the "manager". When I told him about my order being wrong and the experience in the store he let me know if I really was that observant in the store I would have noticed all 7 crew memembers working hard and running into each other trying to complete orders. I told him that was far from the case and camera footage would show the exact opposite of his claim. He let me know that he was recording the phone call and asked me what my goal with the phone call was. I told him originally my goal was to call and have my order refunded but at this point I just wanted them to know how crappy their service was. He then hung up on me. I'm sure if anyone has been into this Wingstop they won't be shocked with this review. I have worked in the service industry for well over 20 years so I usually have more patients for things like this. What is going on at this Wingstop is beyond ridiculous. Infiess it's Buffalo Wild Wings from now on for me. I will not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Stopped in on a busy Saturday night. It was busy so I was hoping for some good hot food. That is exactly what we got. I really liked the crispy wings and flavor was great. Price was a little on the high side for something as simple as wings. Our meal came hot and at a "normal" time for a busy Saturday. Food order appeared to be ready on time but it really wasn't. No ice in beverage machine for our drinks was the best that it would get. When we got our takeout order home we found out 2 of the 3 fry orders were missing. Tried calling store to get fries or something and the line was dead. We had hungry kids to feed so I left for McDonalds instead of the hot-mess that this Wingstop is. While I was gone my wife noticed that her ranch dipping sauce was blue cheese. She went to exchange this for ranch with the kids. When the girls realized they had scarfed down the fries they shared with blue cheese one of the kids gagged and almost threw up. Wingstop slipped us a Mickey of blue cheese dipping sauce instead of ranch. My wife's order of chicken was icky and she couldn't finish it. McDonald's fries were made quickly and kids loved them. All wings overcooked and dry. Called for refund, manager refused but offered for us to drive all the way back for new food (35 minute drive), which is ridiculous. Terrible customer service with lazy and rude staff, store very unkept with garbage everywhere in kitchen. Will not be returning, and uninterested in any store credit. Wings are good and have unique flavor compared to Buffalo wild wings. Would recommend garlic parmesan and Louisiana flavored wings. However there are not that many options to choose from. The fries are fantastic probably the best fries in Ames. Great atmosphere and music. This will probably be my new go to place for wings in Ames. read more

I tried their combo of Spicy Korean Q and Parmesan Garlic boneless wings with carrots/celery and their homemade ranch. BEST wings I've ever had in my life!!! Their chicken was quality and the flavors were out of this world. Especially the Spicy Korean Q, if you like Asian-infused flavors you have to try this sauce!
