National Free Cone Day (3/19) has officially become a family tradition for us and this DQ handled the chaos like a boss (mark your calendar for next year!). This is our second time participating (but 1st time at this location), and per usual, it's a hit with the kids. Shoutout to my fellow Elite friend Alice A. for the "scoop" (pun intended) on this day -- thank you! On a normal day, I imagine this location has your typical flow of customers. But on National Free Cone Day? It felt like every suburban Streamwood teenager showed up at once. We came around 5:30 PM after school, and there were lines out the door. That said, major kudos to the staff for handling the rush so well. They were clearly prepared, with batches of vanilla cones ready to go. The line moved quickly, and our wait was only about 5-8 minutes which is honestly not bad at all considering the crowd. You can get a free vanilla cone (no purchase necessary), but we opted to dip ours for $1 each both to support the business and the Children's Miracle Network. Plus, how do you say no to a chocolate-dipped cone? It's a great deal considering dipped cones usually range from about $3.79 to $5.49 depending on size. This year, they really expanded the dip flavors. In addition to classic chocolate, they offered cherry, confetti, mint crunchy cookie, and cotton candy. My husband and I stuck with chocolate (a classic for a reason). Our kids went with mint crunchy cookie and cotton candy. My oldest loved the mint crunchy cookie which was decent, and my youngest was all about the cotton candy. The cotton candy was definitely on the sweeter side, it's not for me but kids love it. Personally, chocolate is still my favorite. Seating inside was completely full, so most people grabbed their cones and headed out. Groups of kids and families were standing outside enjoying their treats, and with the weather in the upper 50s, it actually felt perfect for a pre-spring outing. They do have restrooms available, though we didn't use them. I also noticed several freezer cases stocked with ice cream cakes and treats for purchase. Honestly, the inner child in me will always want a DQ ice cream cake for my birthday -- I might have to come back for one this year. The staff was friendly and efficient, especially given how busy it was. The only small critique I noticed was the cones were shorter than usual, more of a single swirl instead of the classic taller double swirl shown in their menu (see photos for reference). But on a free promo day where they're serving a huge crowd, that's completely understandable. (They probably had to conserve stock to last throughout the day as the promotion goes till end of the night. So honestly, I'm not complaining when it was a free cone and we're donating for a good cause). Funny enough, my fellow Yelp Elite friend Alyssa G. went to a different DQ in Elmhurst later that evening and got a full double swirl treatment -- she sent me a picture and it looked fire, especially with the cherry dip. Definitely on my list to try next time! All in all, we had a great experience despite the crowds. Worst Dairy Queen I've ever been to. Skimpy on the toppings for all three blizzards I ordered. One blizzard was even missing an ingredient (I asked for fudge and cookie dough and there was no fudge and hardly any cookie dough pieces). Paid over $22 for 2 small blizzards and 1 large blizzard that were mainly just vanilla soft serve. Definitely will not be back. read more

One of the best DQs around. They offer all the "secret menu" items (Hawaiian blizzard, anyone?), it's super clean, and the employees are very kind. They do the "flip" for all the blizzards to prove the ice cream is compacted in that cup. Also they can turn custom cake orders around in a few hours. Just got home from this DQ. I got a peanut drumstick blizzard and chicken nuggets. Wow! Not one peanut in the "drumstick blizzard" and the chicken nuggets are inedible! The chicken tastes like it was cooked in very old grease and was not nearly hot enough. Dairy Queens seem to be about the same whenever I visit one. I don't really go for their food, but mostly for their most popular ice cream confection: The Blizzard My husband and I went into the newly separated from its Subway siamese twin store and ordered two Blizzards (a Oreo and a Heath). It took a few minutes for a person behind the counter to show up, but there was no one in the store at all, so, I don't blame the employee for going to the back room while waiting for customers to arrive. The store was clean and well stocked with ice cream cakes, ice cream rolls, and Dilly bars(ice cream bar on a stick). The woman served us promptly and we got our Blizzards and left. Fortunately, no lip or rudeness from the employee, she was pretty quiet. The Blizzards had a good amount of Oreo and Heath Bar pieces in there, not too much and not too little. It was as I remember Blizzards to be like. So, no complaints as to the consistancy, taste, or amount of mix-ins. My husband have been here before and have had no problems getting our soft serve Dairy Queen dipped cones for the kids and us. I have to agree with previous posters about the teen employees lack of friendliness and customer service. These kids couldn't even pretend that they wanted to help anyone. My daughter and I ordered our ice cream, the kid was rude and unfriendly. The girl that made my blizzard pretty much tossed it on the counter when it was ready, then my daughter waited for a few minutes for her ice cream and when it was ready,the kid tossed it on the counter and asked who ordered it. Really?? We were the ones to have placed on order, who do you think it belonged to? They gave her the wrong size lid for her ice cream dish, so when I picked it up to take with us when we were ready to leave, I dropped what ice cream was left all over myself. Just really crappy service and doesn't make me want to go back anytime soon. There are other locations just as close. My suggestion: never leave teens unsupervised to run a store. There should always be a manager on the premises and please do not tell me that either of these teens were managers. read more

THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!! I took my daughter there yesterday after she saw a commercial for their hamburgers. We get there and they don't have hamburgers on their menu, so she ordered a Chili Cheese Dog Combo (comes with a small drink and a bag of chips) to go. We get home, she ate it and about 10-15 minutes later she's in the bathroom THROWING IT UP (don't want to be gross, but it was GROSS). I called the place to complain, they called the owner and then said he would call me back. He did call me and said that they had no other complaints of this happening. My wife and I used to come to this location on a weekly basis. It was our treat to come here every Saturday night with our dog, sit outside and enjoy our ice cream. This happened less and less as the teen agers that worked there became more and more stuck up and mean. We stopped coming here months ago after one particular incident when we were standing in line. It was 10 minutes before store closing, and we had already been in line when one of the teen age girls working said that they would not take in any more customers. I was infuriated as we were already inside the store and there were still 10 minutes left before the store closed. They could have at least turned the "Closed" sign and served the remaining people inside. Instead, she gave everyone in the store an attitude. While others left, I stood my ground and demanded to be served. The mean bitch behind the counter refused to serve me so I yelled back and told her I was not going anywhere. After a brief argument, she went to the back of the store and never came back until finally another person served me. My wife and I then split off and raced home, hoping that bitch of a teen had not called her football jock boyfriend (and his possy) to confront us. That was a bad experience we will never forgot. Training for the love of God. And I couldn't leave "0" stars... Went for a bike ride and stopped for ice cream. The two girls that were "working" didn't have any training. I asked for plain vanilla with the peanut butter drizzle and whipped cream in a cup. I was told that they COULDN'T make that, because it wouldn't "stick" on the ice cream. I repeated the fact that all I wanted was plain vanilla with a little bit of the peanut butter topping, (while the other girl was chatting on her cell phone to a friend, it was obvious it wasn't a Dairy Queen work related call) the other girl figured out how to make that drizzle happen.
