Walked in and seen the only had hotdogs, which was fine this was the first place we stopped at after first arriving to the beach. I'm the youngest out of all of my siblings and didn't have anyone with me. So, I let them go first then when I went to order the woman on the register told me they couldn't fill my order. When I asked why since they found they had chili and she said yes they did but they was backed up on orders and only one person was making them. I work in fast food myself so I understand being short staffed but it wasn't that they couldn't complete. It they just didn't want to then when I told them I was willing to wait. the staff was friendly and nice but they only had 3 items for food and it was hotdogs and they stop serving at 7 food so If you're looking for food I do not recommend to eat here and they had no public restroom which was a bad experience and the parking lot was crammed and tiny but overall it was okay read more

We went late on Tuesday and there was a group of young folks working and they were on it! Mindful to keep the line moving, they were quick and efficient and super friendly while doing it. Parker is heaven sent! Thank you so much for going above and beyond! I called the restaurant after having left a nearby restaurant for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately so many plans had fell through he was not able to have a proper bday cake so I decided to call DQ as I drove by. Parker answered the phone and said they had cakes but they were closed. 3 young fellas are really hustling and smiling getting ice cream orders out to a large crowd. They were polite and doing a fantastic job for sure. Dairy Queen is the best and these guys were great! I've been to this DQ several times during my trips down to OBX and I've always had a pleasing experience. The soft serve is good and I've tried a few other ice creams and blizzards as well and enjoyed them all. The staff is very courteous and one time I met the owner (I believe his name was Brad or Brett) and he really took great care of me. Definitely ask for him if he's around, he was very cool and has lived down there since he was born so he has plenty of local knowledge and knows everyone on the island. I love the Outer Banks but there is a shortage of good food. I've tried several ice cream shops and the DQ is definitely the best local experience you can get down there for ice cream, and one of the healthiest too (most of their ice cream is just milk and sugar without any added chemicals or corn syrup or other things that are bad for you). hands down the worst service I have ever had a dairy queen. We got there 2 hours before close and right after a rush was leaving we were the only people in line. When we walked up to the counter the manager in charge was yelling "what do you want, what do you want' and twirling his hand in the hurry-up method. I had maybe about 2 seconds to look at the menu. I didn't get any ice cream but my family did. I ordered a bottle of water and they were out of water so I ended up with a Diet Coke. There isn't much seating so maybe sit outside. The bathroom is outside around the corner. It's a one stall bathroom for both men and women. No soap and the blow drier doesn't work so I'd pick a different location if you need to use the restroom. Also, the bathroom door is hard to open and close. My son got stuck in the bathroom and started crying. I had to pry the door open. Everyone enjoyed their ice cream. The 2 rating is based on them not having water and the cleanliness of the facility. read more

Britney went above and beyond in regards to customer service. My son has a peanut allergy and she offered to sanitize all the equipment and she opened up brand new ingredients including spoons and cups for his entire blizzard just to make sure that there was no chance of contamination. So of course we know it's never a guarantee that there won't be some cross-contamination, it was peace of mind for us that she was willing to do this when other DQs in the area weren't even willing to do it. read more

Always the best desserts. Blizzards. Milk shakes, smoothies, soft serve cones dipped in chocolate, banana splits and on and on. Other ice-cream places have come and gone but the local dairy Queen has been around longer than any restaurant on Hatteras Island and with the same local owner and through storms. We have been vacationing in Cape Hatteras for over 30 years and walk to the local Dairy Queen almost every night. Its part of our family tradition. The same guy owns it. I remeber him as a teenager and now he has kids that are practically teenagers. Super nice guy. If you have any island questions ask him. Bottom line the treats are Really, Really good and your supporting a local family who has been around for a long time. read more

Save yourself from peril. There are so many more options for ice cream than this ridiculously slow and poorly represented idea of a DQ. We visited on a Thursday and there were 3 employees behind the counter, one who may or may not have been having a panic attack, not a real one, just panicking because there was more than one person in line. There were 2 other registers open, but all the customers stood in the first line making it virtually impossible to get to the other lines. When we finally were able to make it to the 3rd line, our cashier was wearing her hat upside down and backwards, some sort of rally cap. In the middle of ordering the phone rang and she hands it to the guy freaking out because he's earning a paycheck the most painfully awful way to watch possible, he walks away from his customers to talk, which is almost insanity at this point. I was just thankful not to be in that line. Anyway, don't go here, you can go to Dairy Queen at home and pay too much for ice cream and crappy service there instead of allowing this place to continue to ruin vacations. read more
