Joe was outstanding--friendly, personable, and genuinely attentive from start to finish. You don't usually expect that kind of service that late on a Monday, which made it even more impressive. The BBQ chips, inside-out quesadilla, and Buffalo chicken bites were all excellent too. Kelly, the manager, also stopped by our table to check on us, which speaks to how well this location is run. Big thanks to Joe and Kelly for making our late-night visit such a great experience!

We came here last Sunday to celebrate my son's birthday, and I was really excited for our family of…read more13 to try this place because my husband, other son and I had such a great experience here the first time. Ambiance is still beautiful and clean. Hosts put together our long table nicely and were very accommodating. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. Several dishes came out cold or undercooked, the Thai noodles were hard, my SIL's burger was cold, and our tortilla soup was also cold. The soup was reheated, but sadly, it still didn't taste anything like the one we had the first time. That first tortilla soup was one of the best we'd ever had. What happened to it? If the recipe was changed, I honestly think that was a big mistake. Even Panera's tortilla soup tasted better this time. My seared tuna salad also came out as a bowl with rice. I didn't complain at first since I'm even tired of all these back and forth issues with our food, but even the rice was hard. I was honestly embarrassed because I had been the one raving about this restaurant to my family. I do want to make it clear that the food being cold or undercooked was not Brian's fault, that's on the kitchen. Brian was actually wonderful. He immediately addressed every concern, was honest about the mistake with my order, brought me the correct salad to take home, and even used his discount to help make up for the inconvenience. The GM and another member of management also came out to apologize. So while the food was a major disappointment this time, I truly appreciate Brian and the management team for trying to make things right. I hope this was just an off night because our first experience here was so much better.

Until 5 minutes later. "Beeg mija!" a middle-aged lady yelled from behind the counter. Her eyes darted angrily around the diner, looking for a landing strip for her palpable annoyance, "Beeg! Mija!" The gentleman behind the counter glanced nonchalantly in my direction. "BEEG MIJA!!!!" she screamed. I stared at her from across the restaurant, confused. Our eyes locked like a heat-seeking missile from a 1980s action flick, finding its target. She thrust a stubby index finger in my direction, "Ju! Beeg mija!" I walked to the counter, "Italian beef?" "Jes, da-meet! BEEG MIJA!" she hollered, incensed, and threw the bag in my direction. I intuited she must have been attempting to say, "Big meat. Hot." Mind you, that STILL made no sense. "How the &$@ would I have gotten that from that?!" I hollered. "EETS'A BEEEEEG MI-JA!" "Ok, lady."

Portillo's has anything from a Chicago dog to their famous chocolate cake. Their goal is make everything fresh and to bring Chicago to every restaurant! It is bright, charming, and rustic! With a hint of modern flare. You feel as if you're walking inside of a downtown Chicago home. I absolutely loved it! The food was all incredible and made to order. And, when I tell you that their is everything to choose from on their menu, I mean it. Everyone was very sweet, knowledgeable, and happy to help in any way. Everything is sparkling clean! They had plenty of seating inside, outside. Their decorations are rustic and fun! I love the attention to detail. If you haven't tried this place, put it on the list to try! They also have a store that sells sweatshirts, tee-shirts, stuffed animals, and so much more! Which, I really enjoyed! Chicago Dog-this hot dog is flavorful and has unique layers of flavor that you simply must try! The meatiness from the hot dog. The savory notes from the celery salt. The acidity from the mustard. The tangy sweetness from the relish. The sweet refreshing zesty notes from the tomatoes. To the crisp crunch from the onions. All placed on a soft fluffy poppyseed hotdog bun. Which, makes for a one of a kind Chicago Dog. Every last layer makes for one unforgettable meal that you keep coming back to. Fries-These fries are crispy and crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. They are crinkle cut so every little wave grabs onto the perfect amount of salt. Which, makes for addictively delicious fries. I absolutely can't get enough of them. They also are barely golden brown. So, they aren't stiff. They are slightly bendy! Which, I love. Cheese sauce-This sauce is excellent! It is creamy, cheesy, and savory. It's the perfect combination of heavenly goodness! It's thick and gooey but, not stiff. This stuff is liquid gold! I love to dip my fries in it to create some cheesy fries. I'll walk in just for this! Portillo's Chocolate Cake-This cake is moist and dense with layers of creamy chocolate frosting! It is rich with notes of butter, cream, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, a hint of coffee, which, all tie together for an unforgettable cake! If you're ever having a bad day come and get a slice of this cake. You'll be having a wonderful day after that first bite! So, next time you see a Portillo's, stop by for a tasty treat.
