I've never thought of getting a banh mi at Daily Bread. This was my first visit and I will definitely be back. There really isn't any menu here. You just have to ask. I knew I wanted a pork banh mi, but I read here on Yelp that there is also chicken. You know the bread is going to be good. You see the restaurant people coming in to pick bags and bags of bread. It's just a tiny area so expect some traffic. You can park in the back or on the street. My pork banh mi ($12) was just right. I was worried there wouldn't be any pâté, but there it was along with jalapeño slices, cilantro and lots of pickled veggies. The bread was soft with a crunchy crust. While I waited, I was given two tiny breads, mini banh mi! It was so stinkin' cute! I can see buying this for the trendy Banh Mi Board. Vietnamese banh mi bread (french bread) is long and skinny. Toasted it a little. It tasted good but would have oreferred a fatter and not as long shape. Metered parking on King St or 2 stalls behind bakery. Turn into parking lot before building. I think it's courtesy that you mention to customer that there is a 3% credit card fee ... no need to hide this charge, but maybe people arez more willing to pay cash if you mention this fee. read more

Breakfast in Honolulu, Hawaii... Deciding on a place to meet that we both haven't been is quite the challenge. We selected Daily Bread because we both have driven past it, but had never visited. I thought that there might be some pastries, but no... it's only baguettes, raisin bread, and Bahn Mi sandwiches. There's no menu in the cozy shop... and it's takeout only. The pleasant worker was very kind and efficient. I got a pork Bahn Mi and a sliced loaf of Raisin Bread. The pork was a bit fatty and not roasted. There was pate and pickled veggies in the sandwich. I pulled out the jalapeños... LOL! The bread was soft with a slightly crisp outer crust. The Raisin Bread had some walnuts in it! It was simple and comforting. Not just bread... Though that's all you'll basically see when you walk into this very tiny shop on South King Street, I'm sure that many of you have passed here and have either wondered or just not noticed as it's just a simple shop doing what it does best is baking mini French bread. Just as guilty as this is my very first visit suggested by bestie Nadine C since it's a great place to grab a sandwich as they open early from 7am. If you make your own you can purchase them for $2 each but a sandwich (pork or chicken) banh mi are $12 and no there's no menu other than the neon sign in the window to suggest they have such item available. Just a single lady in the shop as I walked in and asked about the sandwich she says pork or chicken which I chose pork and says it will just be 3 minutes and to sit and wait which I did and it was fast. Nicely wrapped and ready for transport since there's no seating we took it to the mall to enjoy and was surprised of the layer of goodness piled in was very generous with the usual pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro, cucumber slices and jalapeño as well (sorry Nadine) along with sliced pork and pate...love the bread as it was nice and soft not too crusty all fresh and yummy it was a very filling lunch. Honestly not quite sure what else they sell but know that they do make a yummy banh mi and glad that we made this trip for a quick lunch stop which was worth it and yes they do have parking in the back of the building that they do share with other tenants as well just a couple of stalls but lots of street metered parking available as well. Dropped Mimi off for grooming and decided to kill some time. Driving up King St saw this shop and parked in front to pick up whatever they were selling. Very small shop selling fresh baguettes Mini Banh Mi size and full size. Bought three, one for me and a ne each for the guys at home for tomorrow's lunch. $2 each for the minis inclusive of tax. Back in the car and munching on an absolutely delicious, fresh, chewy and crunchy crusted baguette. I ate the white thing as I drove to my next destination for breakfast! lol I'm covered in bread crusty crumbs but that's just ok. I'll be back next grooming appointment read more

Daily Bread is located on King Street, by a Chinese Herbal Medicine Store. I believe there is metered parking in front of the bakery, though I can't be sure because I walked. I bought 6 medium sized French baguettes for $12 total. $2/baguette is a bit steep, but worth an occasional buy. The female staff was welcoming and helpful. She bagged up my bread nicely and made certain I got what I asked for. I will visit again if I ever need baguettes for Banh Mi or other dishes. read more

Cute little bread shop with tasty bread when you eat it asap/fresh! $2 for a banh mi size "medium", $6.50 for a six bag of "minis" and $5 for a long baguette. Only stipulation I had about price was the fact that she totaled, then started adding fee like costs on top of my total. I needed French bread for a charcuterie board and the bakery I usually go to was closed. I've driven past Daily Bread before but never actually stopped to go in so this was my opportunity to see what kind of breads they offered. I parked on King Street outside the shop and walk in around 1pm. The lady was sitting behind the counter and there were French breads bagged and a tray of loose French breads on the side. I asked for 2 of the mini French breads, she bagged them for me and charged me $4. I was in and out in a few minutes; very efficient. When I got home, I sliced into the bread and sampled it. The bread was soft on the inside with a thin outer crust. It went really well with the brie and burrata cheeses on the charcuterie board. read more

Maybe reheat it differently, there is a reason why it is slightly under baked even the grocery store fresh French breads and baguettes are softer also slightly under baked. This is how I do it with every fresh made loaf, even the half eaten ones left over... * Preheat Oven to 400 * Place French baguette or French bread directly on middle oven rack * Bake 6 to 8 minutes...depending on thickness. Beware it'll be very HOT, I use tongs to remove and too slice. It'll be perfectly crispy outside and soft as a cloud inside oh and that unsalted butter with fresh sea salt is just the ticket. I learned this with Trader Joe's baguettes (directions printed on the bread packaging) and have with others, never will I do it another way not even wrapped in foil. Turns ordinary to extraordinary! No excuse for rudeness. Once us enough. I needed a loaf of bread yesterday. After checking Yelp I thought I'd try Daily Bread. I drove over there, parking is non- existent. As I entered the store I asked for a baguette. The firm behind the counter sounded very irritated and said "no more baguette". I just saw a man leave with one so I mentioned that to her. She again in a rude tone if voice said "no more baguette". Ok... not sure if she doesn't speak English but they need to teach their people to speak politely. Hands down best place to get plain Banh Mi bread on the island. Gotta make sure to get there early though, if you go near closing or at 11, there's a chance that they've run out of banh mi bread for the day. The banh mi has that nice signature crunchy-crispy crust with a soft pillowy meaty inside. I also like to get their sliced white bread, so fluffy and soft! It's so good that sometimes I just munch on it in the car plain--no need to toast or dress it up with jam or peanut butter! read more

Happened to pass by and got a large loaf of amazing butter top bread for $4.50. The lady behind the counter wasn't unfriendly, but spoke only in monosyllables. Admittedly, we wandered in near closing time. Went again a couple weeks later. Arrived at 1:30pm, again near official closing time. They're closed up tight. Looks like all sold out! I've heard people mention this place a few times, so I had to try it out. Was making beef stew and wanted a hearty, crusty baguette of french bread to accompany it--since the potatoes in the stew, and the rice I was serving it over weren't gonna be enough carbs. Based on other reviews talking about them running out, I hassled my wife so that we could get there pretty early, 9 am on a Saturday. Walking into this tiny shop, I was welcomed with the heavenly aroma of fresh-baked bread. I asked about baguettes and was told they wouldn't be ready until 9:30. Ugh, fine. So, we ran a couple of errands and circled back around. Took home a baguette and a few of the smaller sandwich loaves. Everything was hot, fresh and smelled amazing. Upon arriving home, we cut up a small loaf and ate it with butter. It was light, fluffy and delicious. However...when it came time for stew and the french bread baguette, I was massively disappointed. It tasted just like the small sandwich bread. There was not enough crust on the outside and not enough chew or substance on the inside. Just a banh mi roll in baguette form which is cheating and totally unacceptable in my book. If you're going to be a bread bakery, you don't get to put out different shapes and pretend like it's a different product. That's not how it works. Overall, if I was making banh mi or even a sandwich spread for some football watching, I'd swing by and pick up the small loaves. Otherwise, the search continues for a more authentic bread baker. read more

Ever see Homer Simpson moan out a vibrating "ohhhhhhhhhh" when he sees something he is salivating over? That is the reaction you'll get when you eat this bread. I go there for the mini french loaves used for Bahn Mi sandwiches. At first I was a little put off by paying $1.50 for a baby loaf... but then I smelled them. I ended up eating one in the car on my drive home getting the crusty bread all over my car. It was warm, crusty, and life affirming. He gave me the same satisfaction you get as holding a sleeping baby. It took me to somewhere else emotionally and I couldn't wait to get home to make a ham sandwich with the other loaves. Eventually, I did get home and I made a sandwich just using this bread, mayonnaise, spiral ham, and iceberg lettuce. Now I was really taken to an even some more special place. The fresh warm bread with the cold ham and lettuce made me feel like I was holding a sleeping baby that just woke up, stretched, yawned, and smiled. I just wish they were open on Sundays but I guess everybody deserves a day of rest. read more

Literally the best French bread I've ever had and I'm so sad that I didn't know about this place sooner! Their French bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's perfect for making Bahn mi sandwiches! I've also gotten the longer baguette. It's makes really good little garlic toasts! There was always parking right In the front when I went as service is pretty quick! Only once, I did have to use the small parking lot in the back. The bread says good for a couple days, although because of the Hawaii humidity, it's probably best to put it in the fridge after 24 hours. However, they still taste good reheated! We went to this tiny bread shop because they were one of the few making rye bread! Located on South King next to an auto parts store and a Chinese herbalist, I'd seen the sign driving by but never stopped in. We got street parking and ran in. There weren't many items available on a Tuesday afternoon but they had, in addition to the rye, some cute small loaves of crusty French bread I hadn't seen since St Germaine closed up. I went in the bakery at noon today to get a small baguette. When I walked in, there were 2 large box of baguettes right inside the door. I went to get one and the lady behind the counter, who was not friendly at all, said they weren't for sale, that somebody had ordered all the baguettes in the boxes and there were none left for sale for regular walk in customers. Wow, I drive all the way there for baguettes and couldn't get any because this business allows people to buy the entire stock and not leave any for walk in customers. Ahhh....the French Baguette. Simple in theory to make, but not the easiest thing to master! I came in here this morning strictly to buy some small 7" baguettes to have with my morning coffee. Already waiting at home was my jar of Nutella and butter. My first time here, and they didn't disappoint. The bread was perfect. Flaky with just the right amount of chewyness in the crust. Light and slightly moist on the inside. I was craving to reproduce a simple breakfast I had while visiting Vietnam. The bakery is run by a Vietnamese family. In case you didn't know: When the French colonized Vietnam (1858-1954), they introduced foods such as baguettes (French bread), pâté, coffee with cream, milk, butter, custards, and cakes. When you are visiting Vietnam, you'll see baguettes everywhere! They'll even sell it to you at the intersection while you're in your car! Needless to say. I recreated my memory. The baguette was great. I didn't try any of the other things in the bakery, but the sandwiches looked yummy! read more

Their bread was good...to be fair, we got there a bit late (in bakery-terms) so they were pretty much out of everything. I hoped to get a baguette but no luck. The bread I did get--I don't know what it was called but it reminded me of a hoagie--was very good. I give them three stars because even though we got there a little after 11 am, their hours were until like 4 pm or something, and it made me wonder if they had more goodness in the oven or were they really going to stay open for another 5 hours with only a handful of hoagie-style bread left? I guess I could of asked, but it would have been nice if the lady..I don't know...spoke. When I asked for the baguette, she could have said, oh we are out but we have such and such, or we have other breads baking...something. She could tell we were obviously eager to try some of their products. Oh well. Anyway, I think the lack of customer service made the experience sub par. Let me tell you what I know from this little bakery, there are two kinds of Vietnamese French Bread, if you like puffy soft kind, go to La Tour Café, but if you like the Real French baguette, you come to the right place, because they are the manufacture and wholesaler to all the retailers and restaurants. Most people would prefer this kind of crunchy-crispy on the outside and soft less meaty in the inside. But because they start very early in the morning and retail is just a small part of their business, so if you come late morning, they may run out of bread. I know, I know, their service could have been better, there is no excuses. I go there for my delicious bread, I am thankful that I can find such a delicious French bread on the island after Shirokiya closed their door. read more

Pillowy soft, pleasantly floury, ciabatta, stitched together so they can be easily torn at the borders into separate pieces. They are small--the size of my palm plus one knuckle up the fingers--and won't f*ck up your low-carb diet. Very good quality; we ate these on the end of day two, having bought them shortly after the bakery opened (around 7:30) the morning before, and you couldn't tell they weren't fresh. Have had the famous mini baguettes as well, which are much better than your standard HI grocery store's (Safeway, Times, Foodland), but I don't understand the genre, having not grown up eating French bread. It's good, I guess, but the ciabatta's far better, for my $. Wondering how these delicious pieces will fare when toasted, can't wait to see! read more

It's a shame, the Rye bread is nice and soft, and the baguette's looked good, though slightly under-baked, though i don't think i will be going back. When the cashier came to the counter to get out bread she was sick and sneezing and snotty, though covering her nose with a tissue i still don't think food should be handled if you are at all ill in any way, also after purchasing the bread anyway, because it was wrapped after all, (being a baker myself and of the curious nature,) i looked back behind the door into the kitchen to catch a view of the baker laying over a table-full of proofing bread enjoying a nice hot take-out of saimin or some other type of soup, i know this because of the slurp that follows such a wonderful dish. It's a shame, the bread was nice and soft, but the sanitation is a real turn off. read more

I am beyond impressed with this bakery. Our Daily Bread has fresh options everyday and use simple ingredients. My favorite item is the mini french bread loaf; I have honestly never tasted a better french loaf while living in Hawaii. When they are warm and fresh out of the oven, my mouth cannot stop watering. The texture, flavor, and crunch is perfect. They also have delicious savory and sweet options: make sure you try the tomato cheese french loaf as well as the blueberry danish. Our Daily Bread is only a ten minute walk from my house so I conveniently buy bread a couple of times per week. As long as I'm living in Hawaii, Our Daily Bread is my first go-to for high quality and fantastic tasting bread! read more

I love their French bread!!! I used to only eat French bread from Saint Germain but when I tried the bread from here, I don't want the Saint Germain (SG) anymore. SG bread gets hard and dry the next day even after I toasted it. Bread from Daily Bread still tastes fresh and crispy even after 1-2 days with toasting. read more
