I would give Eric ten stars if I could…read more My family and I found ourselves in a nightmare situation: our wheel bearing failed in Chicago traffic, halfway through a cross country road trip with two kids and a dog. A frantic Google led me to Eric. I called him and, unlike every other mechanic we reached out to, he took our emergency seriously, and assured us he'd look at our car right away when we got to him. True to his word, he had our car up on the lift within 15 minutes of our arrival, and brought us over to show us the (sadly very catastrophic and obvious) failure of our wheel bearing, and the other systems it had taken out with it. He gave us an itemized clear estimate, which identified a part he wasn't sure we'd need, and clearly laid out our best and worst case scenarios. His costs and timing were exactly as advertised. Thankfully we did not require the extra part, and he was honest about that. Eric was kind and friendly, got us the information we needed when we needed it (making extra phone calls to give us a clear timeline), and let all of us (including our dog!) hang out in his very nice clean waiting room. He had sodas, and a TV, so the kiddos were happy, and we were back on the road within 4 hours of our arrival which felt like a small miracle. Our car is running great. His costs were fair and reasonable. While he isn't immediately off the highway it was very easy to find him, and under 5 minutes' drive from 90. Highly, highly recommended! Bonus: he had some really cool cars he was working on, which we got to check out, and a display of vintage car parts that were fun to see.

Having Rafael work on my car was nothing short of a great experience…read more I had a rear quarter panel dent caused by my drunk friend's fist on my '99 Toyota Avalon. I took it to Rafael after getting 2 local estimates, one of which was absurdly expensive (even if my friend was paying for it). Rafael was straightforward and pretty much told me that he could have the dent fixed today and for half the price the other shops quoted me. Rafael got started right away and we took a couple before pictures, and he got the car under better lighting, so I could see all the mini dings caused by my failed attempt to put the dent back in place on my own. He worked diligently and let me stick around and chat with him. Even though we were chatting, he was able to get the job done perfectly in 2 hours. The other shops told me that I had to bring my car on a specific day and that I would be able to pick it up on a subsequent day. The best part about his work and his approach to service is that he treated my '99 Avalon as if it was a nice, brand new luxury car. Don't waste your time fixing dents with anyone else. Just go to Rafael.

R&M Performance is hands down the best shop in Illinois…read more Honesty, integrity, and transparency are what I value most in the people I do business with--and Rei and Mark truly embody all of these qualities. From the beginning, Rei set the tone by reviewing my project thoroughly, being upfront about costs, and even asking follow-up questions to make sure his team could deliver the work at the highest standard. That professionalism was my first green flag. Mark handled the work on my car and went above and beyond my request. I asked for before-and-after photos to help me track carbon buildup for future maintenance, and not only did he deliver, he provided even more detail than expected. The results spoke for themselves: No more idling during cold starts, City MPG improved from 24-26 to 30-32, when I first bought the car off the showroom floor I was so impressed with the quality and transparency that I immediately scheduled additional maintenance and performance upgrades. It's worth noting that I drive from Libertyville to Palatine--often during rush hour--because the service, professionalism, and results at R&M Performance are far beyond anything else I've experienced. The distance and traffic are never a concern when I know my car is in such capable hands. The service was so good, I even brought in my wife's car. That alone should tell you everything. If you are looking for quality, professionalism, honesty, and reliability, I HIGHLY recommend R&M Performance.

I prefer a shop that will accommodate what I would like to have done on my car and not push unwanted work. Respectfully, this is the problem with a shop like this- which operates like a dealer. They have customer service employees that constantly push you to spend (I suspect that customer service has incentives on their billings). In my case, I just wanted my own provided part to be installed. And if Joe said we can't do that or we can't warranty that installation, I would have understood. Again, I was willing to only pay for labor while accepting all risks. But of course, what I got was "you need a new engine, the battery is bad, you need brakes." After several unwanted suggestions from Joe, I decided to take my beater elsewhere.
