Feels like spring but tastes like summer! We tried out this family-owned creamery in Cazenovia…read moreduring their grand opening weekend. We already can't wait to go back! Pros: delicious milkshakes, plenty of hard ice cream, sundae and milkshake options, large sizes for great prices, friendly staff that offered suggestions and free samples, easy parking (street or in the plaza right in front), fun location that allows for a treat and a walk down to the lake! Cons: easy to miss! Tip-- It's attached to Dave's Diner! Limited outdoor seating, potential for longer wait times if the line gets long and hard to read the menu with the sun glare We love taking trips out to Caz and now this is another reason to make one!

Soft serve mix is rated by percentage of butterfat and it goes from 3.5% to around 14%. Some places use 3.5 because it's the highest profit. You'll notice signs that say "soft serve" but not the words "ice cream". Well at this place it is my opinion that they use 10% which is just enough to call it ice cream. Its okay, not as creamy as many other soft serve ice cream places around. The hard ice cream was good. I wish they were all required to post the butterfat % of their soft serve. So I'd give it a two stars, but in all fairness I eat soft serve daily and might notice things others won't.

They didn't sell any ice cream but they told us about What's the Scoop. We walked down a little ways and ran right into it. It was busy! So many people out enjoying the night and their sweet treats. There were a good amount of tables to sit at. I appreciate the big umbrellas! You can enjoy your cold treat without the hot sun beating down on you. There were big menu boards and lists of ice cream available. There are so many options! There's ice cream, Dole Whip, milk shakes, sundaes. So many goodies to pick from. There was also a non dairy cookies and cream available. The cherry Italian ice listed so that was my pick. My daughter got a small scoop of brownie batter. I ordered a kid's scoop of the cherry Italian ice. Holy cow! I thought my daughter ordered a double scoop but it was their small portion. My kid's scoop would blow competitors out of the water. My scoop was huge for a kid's scoop. In most ice cream joints, my scoop would be considered a small. The brownie batter was very chocolatey! It was very creamy was well. The cherry Italian ice was very vibrant in color. It was also very flavorful. We sat at a cute table on the sidewalk next to the street and enjoyed our goodies. This town is something you see in Hallmark movies and this ice cream joint fits right in it. It's cute, local and they serve some yummy goodies. The staff is really sweet. It's hard not to fall in love with this place. I look forward having goodies here all week.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and great. This place tends to get busy, although the line moves fast. There is no indoor seating at this location, the seating is outside. The area does get packed. It is a pet-friendly area, which is good. Overall, a nice ambiance. My aunt did feel it was more on the pricier side which is why I deducted a star. The great thing is everyone enjoyed the ice cream, we just wish the ice cream was homemade.

Situated just outside of Cazenovia on Route…read more20, the Nelson Creamery is an unassuming ice cream spot that opened a few years ago and has quickly become a go-to when I'm in the area. Their prices are reasonable and the serving sizes generous. The "Creamery" part of their name is exemplified in their soft serve. It is creamy, thick, and doesn't melt right away like other ice creams might. I've tried the soft serve, hard flavors, and their version of a flurry/blizzard/etc. and can recommend all. A cool fact about the Creamery: it was opened by the local Masonic Lodge and their goal is to use profits to give back to the community. Very cool. Not much else to say here. Head to Cazenovia to check out the lake, have dinner at one of the great local restaurants, and finish up with dessert at the Nelson Creamery.

I love homemade hard ice cream and this was from Gillian's in Oneida. I've had their ice cream before and know it's top notch. I chose a maple walnut on a waffle cone and my husband 1 scoop of strawberry and a scoop of coconut almond. Mine was delicious and the cone was crispy and fresh and actually one of the best I've ever had. My only minor complaint is that I had zero walnuts in my ice cream! That could have just been because it was the bottom of the tub??? The flavor of the maple was excellent. My husband loved his flavors but said he liked the strawberry best. They had seating outside.
