I came here for lunch and several things surprised me. I have been here several times (forgot to review)and things were different this time. It took a long time to get noticed at all. Maybe because I was by myself?? Sometimes that happens.... The waitress seemed impatient and rushed. Not a good impression at all. I got brisket, hush puppies and Brunswick stew . Heck yeah swing by Daddy D's BBQ!! This was some good North Carolina BBQ all around. We ordered the beef and pork, and both were vivacious. They weren't over seasoned and everything was tender. The sides are hit or miss for us right now, so we will give it some more time before we rate them. At the end of our meal, we did get dessert and felt they were satisfying with just the right amount of sweetness. We have eaten there several times, and I can say we enjoyed it each time. There is a huge parking lot for the shopping center, so you won't have to worry about finding a spot. Inside of Daddy D's there is plenty of seating and would be a good option for a get together. Not very loud and great service each time. I appreciated the honesty of our server as well, because when we asked for recommendations she freely gave them without hesitation. I could easily see Daddy D's food in a mobile unit/truck for sporting events in the area. They have fair prices and good portion sizes at the time of this review. CATERING EXPERIENCE: We had our wedding catered the food was excellent and our service was very pleasant to work with. In person and administratively they were on top of it the entire time. They were about 20 min late but were very apologetic and professional. There was a little confusion about the carving table as they keep their meat under a warming blanket until it's time to serve so we had people waiting for the meat to come out. Let's start with the service... as soon as we came in the lady waved us down and let us know we could set anywhere. She gave us wonderful service. The food on the other hand wasn't very good. I got pulled pork, and it was so BLAND it had no flavor whatsoever. My husband got the brisket and said it was edible with the BBQ sauce added. I had him try my meat and he agreed it was awful. The baked beans were really good. The hush puppies were fine. He got a water, and I got a sweet tea. They didn't even have very good tea. Thankfully we had good service I'll say that. We are in the South, enough said. We ordered three meats (turkey , pulled pork and brisket). All three were very disappointing DRY. The turkey did however have a nice smoke flavor. The brisket did have something that looked like "bark". The pulled pork was dry and no real flavor. Good BBQ should not have to have any sauce on it at all. Good BBQ is good on its own. We did try some eastern vinegar sauce , it help a little. The two sides were good. Green beans were some of the better we have had recently. I came here because it was suggested to go for their burnt ends. The place I love them at only serves them twice a week and here they are served every day. I ordered the platter with a side of Mac and cheese and red BBQ slaw. The service was great and very quick. I think next time I'll try something else and still go to my go to for burnt ends. Although Daddy D's has been around for years, we never managed to stop by for a variety of reasons. As an aside, I was aware that in the beginning, Danny's BBQ of Cary, provided assistance to Daddy D's in the beginning to get up and rolling. We always loved Danny's which featured a Texas/Florida style of smoked barbecue. At that time (1990's and early 2000's), the predominant (perhaps only) BBQ style in this area was the eastern NC vinegar-based variety. So, it didn't take long for Danny's to began spreading the word that other styles of BBQ were as good or better (subjective, I know). It was around 3 PM on a Tuesday when we happened to drive past Daddy D's, and we finally decided to stop in, and I'm glad we did. First of all, our family have really grown to favor the Texas/Florida/Kansas City/Tennessee styles of BBQ. We just personally never grew fond of the vinegar-based Eastern Carolina style of BBQ, but that's subjective of course. Well, Daddy D's has both, with their main focus being on the former. Their menu shows some Eastern-style BBQ offerings, so they cater to everyone. They were still serving lunch when we came - and by the way - they give a 10% military/law enforcement discount, which is nice. I wound up ordering the Burnt Ends platter, and you get two sides - I chose the baked beans and coleslaw. Along with that, we ordered a separate 1/2 lb of pulled pork so all of us could dig into that if we were still hungry. My wife ordered a brisket sandwich, and my son had their steak sandwich offering - but theirs was made from brisket. The interior of the restaurant has a nice barbecue vibe to it - lots of wood. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating, and the overall vibe was inviting. My burnt ends platter was absolutely scrumptuous. The meat was super tender - like butter, and I also love what they do with their baked beans. They add a bit of vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, some pork bits, etc. The beans had a slightly tangy taste, but boy were they good. Coleslaw was just as we prefer ours - that is, finely chopped. Needless to say, I devoured my Burnt Ends platter. And for lunch, the portions were just right - enough to fill you up, to be sure. Now as for the pulled pork, we were a little disappointed. You see, they served us the pork that must have been sitting out all day in their kitchen warmer, and it was totally dried out. It looked as if they left it out all day in the kitchen. We had to add barbecue sauce to get some moisture in there, and when we did, it tasted fairly good. We can only imagine how it would taste after first being made. My recommendation would be to come during normal lunch-time hours if you are going to order the pulled pork. My wife and son enjoyed their meals to be sure. So, the bottom line is that we were looking for a barbecue place like this because Fuquay-Varina is sorely lacking of BBQ restaurants. I wish a "City Barbecue" chain would come to Fuquay as they have some excellent offerings. But right now, as far as BBQ establishments go, Daddy D's is it (for both Fuquay and Varina), unless there is something else that we're not aware of. Will we come back? Why yes we will (looking forward to it), and other than the dried-out pulled pork - which I can't imagine they would serve like that every day - their menu offers quite a bit of variety that should please most folks. We're only giving it 4 stars because of the dried-out pork. But everything else was perfect! I can change my review the next time we go and try to order the pulled pork again. If all is well then, changing it to 5 stars will be easy to do. Hot dangit, I almost did it again. It's so difficult to take pictures first or maybe my will power just isn't as strong as I'd like to believe . Daddy D's is where it's at folks. Hands down!! I can not get enough of their brisket. It has the perfect char while remaining an M&M, commercial and by that yes, I mean it melts in your mouth and not in your hands! They have different sauces too that you'll get ,if you're a "delivery please", kind of person like me. They are alllllllllll delicious. Today it came with the "S" and "W or M" and I have no clue what they mean but MAN are they complimentary to the meat. Now, let's talk beans! The bbq beans, I repeat the BBQ BEANS! With small pieces of heavenly cooked meat in them, this is my favorite side. Well, next to the BBQ coleslaw. Which happens to be next to their potato salad. Oh wait, they have BBQ boiled potatoes that are spot-on! Ok, so maybe all of their sides are worthy of a family go-round. *side note* applesauce and bbq/brisket is a match made in spoontown. 2nd trip here. Food is very bland. Subpar to say the least. Brisket was overcooked which looked as though additional uncooked fat was added last minute to try and moisten up the meat. Ribs were extremely dry with a very small amount of meat on the bone. The ribs also were small as if they were the last two ribs left in the rack. All of the sides ordered were subpar to be nice with the exception of the Banana Pudding and Collard Greens (Pudding was amazing, greens good.). I would highly recommend staying away from this restaurant. I ordered almost every meat on the menu during this last visit (1/4 lb of brisket, 2 ribs, 1/4 lb of eastern bbq, and almost every side.) The Waitstaff is nice which may be a portion of why the rating for this restaurant is so high. That being said, I do not understand how it has a high rating as the food is honestly worse than what you can make at home by yourself. Save your money and go to a different place.
