I excellent food, great portions, priced reasonably. Nisey and Rome(I think) provided excellent customer service. I recommend this restaurant highly.

I wish I would've taken more pictures, but everything smelled so amazing I couldn't wait. I'm speechless of how amazing this place was. Chicken 10/10 catfish 100/10, the cashier said they were known for catfish, I definitely know why now. Can't wait to go back! Next time ordering ahead of time, but worth the wait.

I purchased food from this establishment for a catered event. The food was tastier than expected. The best was the macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese had extra cheese and just enough black pepper for flavor. For the catered event, the choices were smothered chicken, greens, mac and cheese, and yams. The smothered chicken was fried, and smothered with a touch of gravy. The guest were impressed on how tasty and delicious the food was. After seeing the pictures of the oxtails, I am excited to go back and taste them, as well.

I finally slowed down enough, for you to see spaghetti and spicy greens. It's so good, I've had it three times this week!

The food is fresh daily. They're not serving up leftovers. They're clean, friendly and accommodating. If you live in Zion, and haven't had their food, you're missing out!!! Dada's Soul Food, on 21st st., right off Sheridan, is the truth!!! I've been without dinner many nights, after a long day. They're affordable, convenient, fast,(not fastfood) and curious. Do yourself a favor, go to Dada's!

Was in town for a family event and wanted to order something local. Decided to go with soul food and later realized I made a really good choice. Everything was good tasting, the yams and Mac and cheese were the best. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I ordered the "Better Than Sex Cake" and didn't get any, I'm assuming they were sold out. However I was refunded for it.

I was excited to see my meal all the side orders and corn muffin was perfect definitely good butttt the chicken was terrible wasn't even good enough to put mild sauce on it was so disappointed because the sides was so good the chicken wasn't seasoned proper extra crunchy and very small for $13 and only being a 3pc meal

WHERE IS THE AUTHENTICITY??? ILLINOIS- 04/03/2024…read more While visiting the Great Lakes area of Chicago, my husband and I were looking for some delicious solid Caribbean home cooked type of food and we stumbled upon this place on Yelp. We read the reviews and flipped through the photos and found that they had equal amounts of good and bad reviews and were rated four stars with only 25 reviews. We took a chance on them anyway because we were super tired and hungry from the hassles we endured after exiting our flight from Houston into Chicago. Also, it was impressionably within close proximity of our AirBnB which made it easy to go with this place. Firstly, this establishment is located in a vintage type of area in Waukegan, Illinois which reminded me of how downtown Houston used to look back when I was growing up as a kid in the 80's. There were parking meters only, no private parking and a variety of other stores and restaurants located within the vicinity. You could literally walk out of one place of business and go next door to the next store in as little as three steps. If the weather hadn't been so nasty, hubby and I would have walked the sidewalks to do some window shopping until we stumbled upon something that caught our interests. Secondly, customer service was nice. The young gentleman that waited on us was very friendly and welcoming. He was also patient with us when he realized that we had never visited this establishment and that we were from out of town. We ended up ordering the catfish dinner with a side of cabbage and red beans and rice and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken dinner with a side of rice and peas and Mac and cheese. The catfish dinner was okay. I gave it 3/5 stars because the cabbage and red beans and rice did not meet the authenticity and quality of a Jamaican meal. The rice was extremely bland and lacking any flavor at all. The cabbage was also bland and tasted a little sweet. I hate sweet cabbage but to each their own. I noticed that the cabbage had other veggies like corn, green beans, and carrots mixed in which is probably why it possessed a sweet palate. Overall, it lacked the original Jamaican flavors that I am used to like scotch Bonnet pepper, garlic, scallion, and thyme. However, on the upside of this dinner, the fried catfish was absolutely delicious and fried to perfection. It possessed a golden crunchy exterior and a meaty and juicy tender interior. The pieces were a nice size and very fulfilling. The dinner originally comes with two catfish filets but I ordered a third piece just in case the pieces were small. I quickly found out that a third piece was not needed. I couldn't finish my second piece of fish, let alone a third piece, and the crust was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly. Furthermore, my husband ordered the Jerk chicken (all white meat) dinner accompanied by rice and peas and Mac and cheese. Unsurprisingly, like me, he too complained about his sides lacking flavor and capturing the authentic Jamaican flavors of rice and peas. However, the upside of this dinner is that the Jerk chicken was a hit possessing a spicy kick and a flavorful palate. My husband said that the meat was tender and juicy. Again like me, he rated his dinner 3/5 stars as well. Overall, we liked our food enough to be content and satisfied. However, we were not "wowed" by the cuisine at this establishment. The sides are mediocre at its finest while the meat is delicious and flavorful. They seriously need to work on their sides if they want five star ratings. Lose the corn and green beans in the cabbage and do not overcook the cabbage because it was a little on the soggy side. I prefer my cabbage with a little crunch to it. My final rating for this establishment is three stars. Instead of a hit, it was a miss for me. I would probably visit again while in town, but only for the meat. I wouldn't mind trying their oxtails with plain white rice. They look succulent from the Yelp photos that others have posted. I wouldn't highly recommend this place, but would suggest that one try them at their own risk.

It was not too busy but definitely lively, music playing and karaoke about to start. When we walked in multiple workers greeted us right away. I noticed they did this as other customers came in as well. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service the whole time. Very attentive, personable, fun and kind. We ordered our food and a drink & it was ready in no time. We went with the empanadas (a must order in my opinion). They are crispy and flaky, the dipping sauce with it is so flavorful, the best combo! I crave them more than I'd like to admit lol. Our drink was a rum punch and it was potent indeed but definitely nice flavors throughout. For our meal we got the jerk chicken bowl & veggie Rasta pasta. That Rasta pasta was so creamy and cheesy but also with a kick - so good! Next time I'll ask for extra veggies and I'll love it even more. The jerk chicken bowl we enjoyed as well, I loved the mango pieces throughout. The prices were great too & they have specials during the week. Tons of events going on here, lots of fun energy. Wonderful food & service. I truly appreciated how welcoming & kind the staff was. Can't recommend enough! I will be back!
