Food was good. I ordered the oxtails which were a little on the salty side. My friend ordered the tacos because it was Taco Tuesday and they have those at a discount those days. The tacos could have had more meat in them than toppings. The plantains were cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was alright but I'd get another side on my next visit. Drinks were great, on the strong side. Service was awesome and would love to go next time to check out their brunch. They have daily specials and happenings so check out their website for more.

I recently dined at Caribana Cafe, and as a vegetarian, I was delighted by their selection of vegetarian dishes. The Jerk sauce, in particular, was a standout, adding a burst of flavor to the dishes. The staff provided excellent service, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. However, there was one drawback that I couldn't ignore. While the vegetarian options were delicious, I felt that the menu was somewhat limited in terms of variety. I would have appreciated a broader range of vegetarian choices to explore. Despite this minor limitation, I had a positive overall experience at Caribana Cafe and would recommend it to fellow vegetarians who enjoy Caribbean cuisine. One thing I want add more , my friend along with me appreciated Jerk Chicken taco as he was non-vegetarian.

Four stars, only because I'm holding on to that last star until I can visit again for some entrees. Stopped in last night after a Friday night football game for a drink and treat. The drinks are fantastic as was the apple empanada (I didn't try the plantains pictured). $12 for a good sized, delicious and strong drink seemed fair. But for an extra great value visit on Thirsty Thursday for half price specialty drinks. Hope to get back for musical trivia and the entrees! Also apologies to the staff we kept there late as we thought they were open later than they were supposed to be. They very graciously point it out but only after we were still there 40minutes after close. Hope to make up for the inconvenience by spreading the word on what they have going on there and getting more people to check it out!

Drinks are famed fresh, strong & delicious

Came in after a trip to six flags and had some great food and strong drinks. Food was fresh, drinks were strong. Space was clean and elegant.

Mainly a takeout place with limited counter seating, each meal is prepared fresh. Jerk Chicken,Curry Goat and Oxtails are just a few of their Jamaican dishes. We tried their Veggy Patty and Chicken Patty. Flakey crust loaded with flavor. I didn't care for the chicken patty as it was chicken curry which I'm not a big fan of..wish it would have been listed on the menu in a different way. Ordered a side of their spicey jerk sauce which added additional flavor ....bonus! Also had their Medium Jerk Chicken platter with sides of red beans and rice and sweet candied yams. Everything was delicious. If you want to experience good Jamaican food minus the sand, ocean and Red Stripe Beer, this is definitely the place to go.

The beans and rice were undercooked, dry and not very well flavored. That was a surprise to me. The side of cabbage was a bit oily and also not very well flavored. We were not disappointed! Everything is home made with fresh ingredients and love. A big thank you to Quinta and her daughters for a very special and memorable night. WHERE IS THE AUTHENTICITY??? ILLINOIS- 04/03/2024…read more While visiting the Great Lakes area of Chicago, my husband and I were looking for some delicious solid Caribbean home cooked type of food and we stumbled upon this place on Yelp. We read the reviews and flipped through the photos and found that they had equal amounts of good and bad reviews and were rated four stars with only 25 reviews. We took a chance on them anyway because we were super tired and hungry from the hassles we endured after exiting our flight from Houston into Chicago. Also, it was impressionably within close proximity of our AirBnB which made it easy to go with this place. Firstly, this establishment is located in a vintage type of area in Waukegan, Illinois which reminded me of how downtown Houston used to look back when I was growing up as a kid in the 80's. There were parking meters only, no private parking and a variety of other stores and restaurants located within the vicinity. You could literally walk out of one place of business and go next door to the next store in as little as three steps. If the weather hadn't been so nasty, hubby and I would have walked the sidewalks to do some window shopping until we stumbled upon something that caught our interests. Secondly, customer service was nice. The young gentleman that waited on us was very friendly and welcoming. He was also patient with us when he realized that we had never visited this establishment and that we were from out of town. We ended up ordering the catfish dinner with a side of cabbage and red beans and rice and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken dinner with a side of rice and peas and Mac and cheese. The catfish dinner was okay. I gave it 3/5 stars because the cabbage and red beans and rice did not meet the authenticity and quality of a Jamaican meal. The rice was extremely bland and lacking any flavor at all. The cabbage was also bland and tasted a little sweet. I hate sweet cabbage but to each their own. I noticed that the cabbage had other veggies like corn, green beans, and carrots mixed in which is probably why it possessed a sweet palate. Overall, it lacked the original Jamaican flavors that I am used to like scotch Bonnet pepper, garlic, scallion, and thyme. However, on the upside of this dinner, the fried catfish was absolutely delicious and fried to perfection. It possessed a golden crunchy exterior and a meaty and juicy tender interior. The pieces were a nice size and very fulfilling. The dinner originally comes with two catfish filets but I ordered a third piece just in case the pieces were small. I quickly found out that a third piece was not needed. I couldn't finish my second piece of fish, let alone a third piece, and the crust was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly. Furthermore, my husband ordered the Jerk chicken (all white meat) dinner accompanied by rice and peas and Mac and cheese. Unsurprisingly, like me, he too complained about his sides lacking flavor and capturing the authentic Jamaican flavors of rice and peas. However, the upside of this dinner is that the Jerk chicken was a hit possessing a spicy kick and a flavorful palate. My husband said that the meat was tender and juicy. Again like me, he rated his dinner 3/5 stars as well. Overall, we liked our food enough to be content and satisfied. However, we were not "wowed" by the cuisine at this establishment. The sides are mediocre at its finest while the meat is delicious and flavorful. They seriously need to work on their sides if they want five star ratings. Lose the corn and green beans in the cabbage and do not overcook the cabbage because it was a little on the soggy side. I prefer my cabbage with a little crunch to it. My final rating for this establishment is three stars. Instead of a hit, it was a miss for me. I would probably visit again while in town, but only for the meat. I wouldn't mind trying their oxtails with plain white rice. They look succulent from the Yelp photos that others have posted. I wouldn't highly recommend this place, but would suggest that one try them at their own risk.

So worth the trip. The wings were delicious and cooked right. Full wings, not wingdings, winglets, flats or whatever. Black people wings, y'all. Those sweet potatoes have to be a family secret. I've never had any that were so light, so soft, yet had so much flavor. And that mac and cheese. No runs, no drips, no errors. Nothing kills mac and cheese like being even a little soggy, but you'll never have to worry about that at DaDa's Soul. Somebody's putting a good portion of TLC in that mac and cheese because it WILL make you wiggle from that first bite. The blue lemonade was a nice washdown for this meal. Next time, I'll get it with some ice because I'm sure that will boost the enjoyment even more. I also had a slice of chocolate frosted yellow bundt cake, but had to wait a couple of hours to eat that because the meal was beyond satisfying. There seemed to be a hint of coconut flavoring in either the cake or the frosting, but not enough to turn me away. The young (to me) brother who took care of me really took care of me. I am not used to such personable service in casual establishments, but the welcoming and appreciative energy during my visit ensures that it will not be my last visit. The sauce is bright and tangy--obviously spicy, but so, so good. And there's really no place similar in this area. Paired with the rice and beans and cabbage helps tone down the spice. Goat Curry - So spicy but so flavorful! The meat is tender and it's addictive. Beef patty - This is different than others, and it seems deep fried where I'm used to baked. Always love a beef patty and our kids enjoyed it. Plantains - Our kids love plantains in whatever form. Plus, these aren't spicy so they eat them all. Mac and Cheese - I'm usually wary of getting mac and cheese for kids because it's bland and watery (my child's words not mine), but THIS mac and cheese was SO good! So much flavor and gooey cheese sauce. Both our kids loved it and said it was delicious. Easy win! Candied Yams - Of all the tasty things, this is probably my least favorite. Everything on the menu is packed with deep, rich flavor. But candied yams are just too sweet for me. I think people who like sweet things will love this, but my preference tends to lean less sweet and more savory. So if you're not huge on sweets either, maybe skip this and go for the other items. The staff here are so nice--we ordered with the high hopes of ox tail (one of the non-spicy items) but they were all sold out! My husband was so disappointed that she took pity on him and just gave him the sauce and bits and bones that were left because they couldn't sell it anyway. It was SO good. Almost better than the first time I remembered it. I could be entirely too full and still want a taste of these ox tails! Please never go out of business or change hands--this place is a gem.
