I passed by the restaurant a little past noon on Saturday. A sidewalk sign said £6.75 for two courses, for lunch. I stopped to look at the menu in the window. A staff member came out, was quite welcoming, and encouraged me to give it a try, so I did. The restaurant was empty. Each table had tablecloths and cloth napkins. The restaurant was impeccably clean.
As it turned out, there was only one choice for the first course, onion bhajia, and there were only two choices for the second course, lamb curry or chicken curry.
The first course was excellent. I could taste that the two pieces of onion bhajia were freshly pan fried. Crispy.
The second course -- lamb curry and rice -- was also excellent. The lamb curry was served piping hot. What a pleasure. At many Indian restaurants, the curries taste as if kept all day in crock pots set on very low so as not to overcook the pre-cooked food, but here, the lamb curry tasted fresh and was tender and hot.
I also had a hot tea. The bill included the tip. The total was £9.15. I'll return on my next trip to London. read more
