Our waiter was very professional and the menu was the perfect length of choices, but not overwhelming. The restaurant was packed on a Thursday evening and filled with an older crowd which signaled to us right away that this must be a good restaurant filled with regulars. The meals did not disappoint. The lemon veal dish was spectacular as was the chicken Parmesan. My only comment may be that a man may not be full after the lemon veal dish like I was since the veal is paper thin. The flavors on each dish were exciting and enjoyable from beginning to end!

The restaurant itself is huge and multi-level inside, but since I was joining dinner, we settled onto the large patio out front. There are plenty of tables, lots of room, and I was welcomed without any issue. Then the staff brought me a water bowl. And by "bowl," I mean what appears to be a small aluminum swimming pool. I respect their understanding of VIP service. Mom ordered the penne with prosciutto and mushrooms, covered in Parmesan, along with a Diet Coke. Now, I don't like to pull rank, but I am an Italian Greyhound sitting at an Italian restaurant while someone eats prosciutto directly in front of me. Surely there are laws governing this. Apparently not in Canada. Mom said the pasta was delicious. I spent dinner alternating between relaxing on my cooling mat and staring upward in a manner I felt clearly communicated, Perhaps the tiny Italian gentleman would like some prosciutto? No response. Still, this turned out to be a great easy option for a late dinner with a dog. The patio is spacious, I was genuinely welcomed, and the staff made sure I had plenty of water. Cafe Presto was a unique little storefront restaurant. We were standing around outside wondering…read morewhere to go have dinner when the owner of this little place stuck his head out and said "come on in." With such a quirky start, we did just that. Inside this little place there are maybe a dozen tables ... mostly for two. The place was casual, unpretentious, and relatively inexpensive. Service was friendly and spot on. Now the owner who drew us in - whatever his name - does it all here. He seated us, we saw him clean off some tables, and he goes back and forth in the kitchen personally making each dish. He had only two helpers ... one doing dishes and the other helping wait the tables especially when he was fixing a plate. The meals are essentially light pasta with light sauces ... nothing much heavy here. It is meant to be a quick lunch spot, and only stays open a while after hours. The menu - posted in the front window - is written on a sheet of paper and usually is about 8 different pastas and sauces; after you sit at a table you will find that the current list is generally smaller as they have run out of stuff during the day. Be that as it may, it was pretty good food. We had the Canelloni Rossini (4 stars with a light red sauce), Penne Arrabbiata (4 stars with another very light sauce), and a Calypso Salad (4 stars with very nice greens). The big takeaway was that he can make any kind of quick pasta and put any one of his light sauces on it for a quick meal. The sauces were nice - very light but nice. The pastas could have been a bit fresher. Interestingly, they only take cash - and that is not mentioned on the front window. He does have an ATM machine inside to help you cover the cash, but he should really announce this out front, especially for all the tourists that are in Montreal. Our bill came to $70 and he wrote down $80 ... maybe he included the tip for us - don't know, but pay attention to your bill on the way out. In fairness, the prices are reasonable here - $4.95 for a glass of the house Chianti, and every one of the pasta meals were simply $9.95. Canoli were $6.00 each.

I've heard many great things about Beatrice so I was looking forward to finally trying it for myself. The staff were warm and friendly from the minute we walked in until we left and we started the night off with some cocktails and Prosecco. The ambiance was really lovely too. I loved the modern decor with the twinkle lights to add magic and warmth. For appetizers, my partner and I shared the spicy tuna tartare which they graciously split into two plates prior to serving us our friends shared a dozen of lucky lime oysters from PEI. The portion of the tartare was not too impressive but it was a polished and sophisticated dish and they brought some taro chips for us to enjoy it with. For my main, I had the Branzino Mediterranean Sea bass with roasted artichokes, fennel and salsa verde. This was probably my favourite part of the meal! The fish was cooked perfectly and it went well with the bottle of Sancerre we had ordered. My partner got the braised veal cheeks tortellini served in wild mushroom soup and that was extremely tasty and rich as well! Everyone was pretty full but my partner ordered the chocolate hazelnut budino which was a warm chocolate cake that was filled with Nutella served with a fresh strawberry and vanilla ice cream. I tasted it and I thought was good but nothing to write home about. They did dim the lighting quite drastically part way through the meal and it did get considerably louder which makes sense as it was a Friday night (I would suggest to be seated in the dining room if you want more quite and the "patio" with the twinkling lights and the bar seemed more lively). Also, the server was extremely nice and accommodating but didn't seem as knowledgeable when it came to helping us with picking the right bottle for the night - which turned out to be okay because we already had a good idea of what we wanted. Overall, it was a great dining experience in great company. The portions are not huge but I thought it was appropriate. The food was great, very fresh ingredients and the service was impeccable. I'd like to return here in the near future to try a pasta dish! Tip: they also have valet for $10!

Only small bone to pick is the prices - they are fairly steep, but rest assured the quality of the food, the service and the ambience lives up to them.

I LOVED the old-world charm, stone walls, and cozy atmosphere. It made it feel as though we'd stumbled into someone's Italian grandmother's wine cellar. We had the first reservation of the evening, (there were only 2 openings available when we booked 24 hrs prior), so for a brief, glorious moment, the place was quiet, quaint, and all ours! A perfect setting for four friends to unwind and reflect on a fantastic trip. The tables filled quickly, the volume rose accordingly, and suddenly the cozy atmosphere became a lively chorus of conversations. Thankfully, the food, drinks, décor, and our gracious waiter compensated for the noise. The seating is intimate--very intimate. At one point, my friend and I attempted to leave our table but found ourselves temporarily trapped by a waiter taking an order at the neighboring table. We accepted our fate, waited patiently, and were eventually released back into civilization. Service moves at a relaxed pace here, so the two-hour reservation limit is spot on. We weren't in any rush to get back to our rental, so we happily settled into the rhythm of the evening. Pasta, cappuccino, tiramisu... oh my. A fitting finale to a wonderful Montreal getaway with good friends, great food, and just enough table-side captivity to keep things memorable.

What a wonderful Italian restaurant, right on Greene Ave. in the heart of Westmount!…read more My folks dine here occasionally as they live nearby, but I've never been - until a few nights ago. Had a 6pm reservation and we were first there, but within 15-20 minutes, the restaurant was filling up fast. I recommend reservations here to ensure a seat. It clearly is a popular spot. The interior is lovely, with well spaced tables, and due to its location on the second floor of the building, it's great sitting by the front window walls to look out onto the avenue and people watch. I loved the white linens and the clean black and white aesthetic, combined with the window wall and areas of exposed bricks and tall glass-enclosed wine racks. Our server was Francesco and he was absolutely amazing. Onto the food.... wow, it was good. My dad had his regular Caesar salad and after I tried a bit of it, I could see why he's such a fan. The intact romaine leaves were so perfectly crisp and perfect, I don't think I've ever had a salad where the lettuce was so perfect. The dressing and parmesan on said salad was also perfect. Honestly, I think it was the best Caesar salad I've ever tasted. Next time, I'm ordering one, for sure. My mom and I shared the eggplant parmesan and it was delicious and not heavy or overwhelming as most eggplant parmesan dishes are. We also shared their version of Caprese salad, with buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes. This was, for me, the only miss of the night. The cheese and tomatoes were delicious, but they only used olive oil on the salad, and it really called for some good balsamic vinegar as well. (Note to self: next time ask for some balsamic on the side. The dish really called for it). My folks also shared some ice cream for dessert and they said it was super good, they could tell the quality was super high. We all had drinks (even my dad, who NEVER drinks). Dad's red wine was, he said, perfect, and my mom loved her gin martini (which she noted was the biggest martini she ever had. They sure don't scrimp on drink sizes here!). As for me, I asked Francesco for a sangria on the sweet side, and he returned with the best sangria I ever had, hands down. I am not exaggerating, it was beyond delicious. We had a wonderful dinner here. I should note, at the end of our meal, my mom had a bad reaction from her meds and her drink and it got a little concerning there for a few minutes. Francesco was really helpful to us, as I had to help my mom out. (My apologies to the restaurant and nearby diners. I know it must have been disturbing for them. Mom was fine soon after and has since had some med dosages tweaked by her doctor). I should also add that parking here is a breeze. There is a large parking lot a few yards away on Greene and parking is free after 6pm, and I think street parking is free after 6 or 9pm, too, and free all day on Sunday. FYI. I am already looking forward to returning here, before I return back to my home in Vancouver in a few weeks.

There's some understanding when things take long when folks are busy, but for a 8:30 reservation we didn't order any food a little after 9:30pm. After only being served drinks for that first hour plus, we were hungry. We ordered bread. It never came. Salad came first, dropped and walked away. I took 2 bites and the look on my face prompted my wife to ask me what was wrong. Rotting greens was wrong. The arugula/spinach was rotting in plain view, and on my tounge. You know that taste of bitter greens, it tastes kinda slimy? Ugh. My wife immediately flagged the server down. They went to talk to the kitchen. Coming back, the server offered us a new dish, "maybe one that has less dressing" completely ignoring the issue in front of everyone and playing it like this was a preference thing, or our fault, as opposed to serving us inedible food and acknowledging that. I know right from there that we were going to have a bad time because when a restaurant messes up, and they blame you? It's like you're stuck in quicksand, not to recover. That exactly happened as the meal got worse. Then came the pastas, this was supposed to redeem everything. It didn't. The tagliatelle was cut in what seemed 5 different sizes, looked like pasta scraps. Looking beyond that the mushrooms were gritty and pretty dirty. Not a great taste again. Not really seasoned, just oil and dirt. The dish looked like a rush job, an after thought for a restaurant that prides itself on pasta. There was also the ravioli, which was also rushed as some of the pasta was undercooked. It was hard, and crunchy. Again, not a good mouth feel experience. My wife flagged the server down again, and we were dismissed again, they said "our pastas are generally cooked that way" Undercooked? Yikes. I'm not done yet, then came the beef. Preparation continued to be an issue as it was so tough we couldn't eat it all. Chew chew fest. We had half a plate of food untouched and the server came to say, "I'm all done for the night, bye." He knew we were disappointed left and right, dismissed us as it being our problem, and then bailed. New server didn't come until he was forced to clear our half eaten plate. No desert was offered, and we never got that bread... Needless to say I was excited to come back, and now we will never come back. I was also excited about the other restaurants, which we will never go to either. After $100+ per person, we left the restaurant still hungry :( We've sent dozens of people to Nora Gray over the years, and that will cease as well. Don't go, there's so many other places in Montreal that won't gaslight you when they mess up. Or just, won't mess up this way in the first place. We sent a email to avoid a public negative review. They said they "unfortunately don't remember it that way." More gaslighting and deflecting the problem. Don't worry, I'll make sure you're reminded. This review is a reminder of our experience, since you all seemed to have forgotten so quickly. Stay away. Buyer beware.
