This is the Da Spot ...haha. The best prices and selection. I was unclear where the place was located but it is on the campus of UH West on lower lever of building C, you do not need to be a student to buy food there. Place is open Mon-Fri until 6pm. Breakfast is served until 9am. You cannot buy this massive acai bowl made right in front of you for $6 anywhere on the island, they have I believe 30 different shakes to choose from - insane ! My to go spot for sure !

Not the most appealing photo... but their acai color is so light purple and beautiful!!

I can't believe I attended UHWO for about 4 months, and only now did I decide to check out Da Spot located on campus in the cafeteria area (Building C first level). This is the only food vendor on campus and I hope they'll expand to have other vendors soon! I've always snacked using the vending machines or drove off campus to get some lunch. I am writing this review mainly because of their acai bowl... ughhhhh the mixed feelings I have for this place. First off, 5 STARS for their acai bowl! I am still shocked and amazed that a huge bowl (seems to me that it's 24oz but I could be wrong) is only $6!! I tried their acai bowl before at the King Street location, but that was such a long time ago. They give you the option to choose between apple juice or soymilk base for the acai bowl, and I specifically remember choosing soymilk because I LOVE SOYMILK. It's a unique twist and the color of the acai is lighter and pretty - presentation of the acai bowl with bananas, strawberries, and granola looked appealing too! My only concern was that I had a huge frozen strawberry that didn't get blended in well with the acai. Nonetheless, I would definitely order this again from now on when I'm on campus. I love acai bowls too! FOOD - Other than the acai bowl, I've also tried the grand slam sand and breakfast bowls. The grand slam sand is a bagel/croissant sandwich (your choice of bread) with eggs, a choice of meat, pesto sauce, and cheese. They didn't ask what bread I wanted but it's whatever because I didn't know how to order at the time lol, but I got my sandwich on a bagel and it was so good! Highly recommend. Breakfast bowl? Not so much. The taste was great with a lot of flavors, only if you like veggies (red and green onions, tomatoes/bell peppers, etc) with scrambled eggs on rice. I lost my appetite though because my eggs weren't cooked properly, and I was afraid and unfortunate that this would happen. SERVICE - It's super weird like anyone could probably walk away with the food without paying. I was so confused.. But from experiencing the process, you order your food/drinks first at the food counter and while they're cooking the food for you, you go to the register to pay BUT that's only if there's a cashier there to ring you up, which most of the time there isn't and you're left there standing and waiting for a few minutes. Because of this experience, I'm giving Da Spot UHWO an overall 3 stars.

Da Spot gets five stars because of the smoothies! The smoothies are made right there with lots of different options to choose from, and if you don't like the options, you can have your smoothie made to your taste. There are a variety of fruits (strawberry, banana, coconut, pineapple, mixed berries, etc), sorbets (lilikoi, lychee, guava, etc), and liquids (soy milk, passion orange juice, guava juice, etc). And the smoothies are pretty cheap: $3 for 16-oz, $3.50 for 20-oz, and $5 for 32-oz. What a deal! Way cheaper than Jamba Juice. The food is pretty good too. The pre-made food is typically $6 for mini and $8 for regular with main dish, rice, and salad. Some friends got chicken parmesan, which was delicious when I sampled. There are also more typical concession foods like burgers and pizzas. I ordered fish and chips. Pretty sure the fish is frozen and fried, and that's the quality you get. Not the best I've had by far, but still satisfying. The service is actually really good! All of the workers I interacted with in the two times I've eaten at Da Spot were all really nice. They talk stories with you and help you out with what you need. Excited that when I'm at UH West Oahu there's a good food choice on campus.

Strawberry Love Potion, medium size ($3). Contains Haupia sorbet, strawberries, and soy milk.

The restaurant is super clean and spacious, and they play some awesome classic rock music. You order and pay at the counter and they will bring you the food; the lady at the counter was extremely friendly and very efficient. You need to bus your own table when you're done, just place the used dishes, glasses and utensils in the labeled plastic tubs, not a big deal at all. Now, the food is the star. We order baba ganoush with pita, super gyro with zucchini fries, and a soup and salad combo. The baba ganoush was so delicious, and the pita was warm and soft. The super gyro has so much yummy meat in it that the pita can hardly hold them, and the zucchini fries were crispy and not oily. It also comes with a couple really good tzatziki sauces. My wife really enjoyed the avgolemono (lemon and chicken) soup and greek salad. She was so pleased with the combo that she had to order an extra takeout combo for her friend to try. On top of all that, we finished our great meal with a baklava sundae; two fresh crispy baklava pastries with a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with cinnamon and honey. This desert is a must order. The restaurant is mixed in with a lot of other restaurants and shops in a large strip mall, so it maybe easy to miss. The prices are really reasonable and the portions are good. If you like Mediterranean food; this is the place. You will love it.

They didn't feel heavy or greasy at all, they were thinly breaded and super fresh and crispy. I would go back just for those. I ordered the lamb souvlaki, everything comes with a side so I got it with the baba ghanoush. I love the way the lamb was seasoned and the baba ghanoush was delicious I might even prefer it over hummus. Not pictured, but I even got to try their garlic fries which also weren't greasy either and they had lots of garlic! I got to try their spanakopita as well, super flaky and crispy. For me, everything was a 10/10. It ended up being a lot more food than expected and perfect if you're looking for something healthy, light, but also filling. The environment was calm and the lady who was there was super friendly as well! I'd be back all the time if I didn't live so far!

Mara is located on the first floor of the Renaissance Hotel. Turn right as you enter through the glass doors. We were seated promptly and given our menus. The carafe of water on the table was a nice touch with the matching glasses that created a blue hue with the water in it. It set the ambiance of the Mediterranean Sea. My friend ordered the MAMMA MIA Cocktail composed of Meili Vodka, Strawberry, Basil, Honey, Greek Yogurt and she enjoyed it. Next, my friend ordered the WHIPPED BURRATA Roasted Beets, Walnuts, Pomegranate Molasses. The beets were flavorful as we paired it with the savory cheese and pita bread that accompanied it. This dish was delicately sweet and the walnuts created an even balance to the velvety beets. My friend ordered the PHYLLO-CRUSTED SNAPPER SANDWICH Caper Aioli, Athenian Slaw, Citronette. She enjoyed the crunchiness of the batter and the juiciness of the fish. The accompaniments also made her dish shine. I ordered the Grilled Kebabs Chicken plate with rice. This came with ZA'ATAR FLATBREAD Tzatziki, Cucumber & Tomato Shirazi. The 2 skewers of chicken breast had the charred flavor that paired well with the flatbread, rice, and Tzaziki. The cucumber and tomato added a cool crunch. Lastly, we wanted to try the dessert. We ordered the GREEK YOGURT SOFT SERVE fully loaded. The toppings included: Baklava Crumble, Sour Cherry, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, and Honey. The soft serve was creamy and tangy and perfectly balanced. The toppings such as the Baklava crumble had a buttery crunch. The Sour Cherry had a bold tart punch that blended with the creaminess of the soft serve. The drizzle of the Olive Oil and Sea Salt tingled my tastebuds. Finally, the honey tied everything together with its golden sweetness that lingered on my palate. This dessert was fabulous, rich and decadent, a standout in my opinion. This was my favorite part of the meal. Also, our server Phoebe G. made our experience at Mara so enjoyable. She would always check up on us and make sure we were taken care of. We will indeed return to Mara to experience excellent customer service and delightful Mediterranean flavors.

The Bocconcino Whipped Burrata was a recommendation from our waitress and this was my favorite dish! So thankful she recommended it. I have never had anything like it before. The dip is made from roasted beets, walnuts, and pomegranate molasses. Because it was whipped, the texture was so light. It was perfect. The Greek Salad and Brussels Sprouts were only ok. I did not expect there to be as many tomatoes as there were and I wasn't really a fan of it for the price. My husband enjoyed the scallops and he recommends giving it a try. TLDR: definitely get the Bocconcino Whipped Burrata!

Their menu included a delicious lentil soup, a 6 sample salad/ olive selection, a sweet/savory puff pastry filled chicken dish, mains and finally a sweet fennel cake and biscotti dessert. The mains we tried were the rack of lamb(our favorite!), calamari mogador, Cornish chicken with lemon and olives, and lamb tagine with eggplant. The rack of lamb was the clear standout, perfectly cooked and seasoned that melted in your mouth. The calamari was served in a delicious tomato sauce with still firm calamari slices. The cornish chicken was good as well. The only disappointing dish was the lamb tagine, it was a bit dry and tough...not an expected "tagine ". But the meal was overall good and tasty. Service was fun and friendly.
