Right at the university of Hawaii West Oahu campus. The school is tiny and this is the only food place I think that's available on campus. Clean facilities and nice workers. Da Spot quite literally hit the spot perfectly every time I went here as a student. The prices are fairly reasonable for the food, especially considering that a majority of the people who go here are students who don't make much money. Since the school transitioned back to having more in-person classes after COVID, you can see more people dining in. Anytime you go, there will always be an empty table, so you never have to worry about not finding a seat. The noise level is usually really low due to the lack of students who actually visit the cafeteria. Here are my favorite foods to get here: Cheese Steak and Onions Sandwich, Beef Curry, and Mochiko Chicken. I've never had a bad experience with the food or drinks here, and everything is really tasty. The smoothies taste good too, but I don't get them often just because I don't want to spend too much money on lunch! As a side note: You don't have to be a student to eat here. They accept both cash and card. The employees are really friendly! read more

This is the Da Spot ...haha. The best prices and selection. I was unclear where the place was located but it is on the campus of UH West on lower lever of building C, you do not need to be a student to buy food there. Place is open Mon-Fri until 6pm. Breakfast is served until 9am. You cannot buy this massive acai bowl made right in front of you for $6 anywhere on the island, they have I believe 30 different shakes to choose from - insane ! Finally tried this place! It wasn't too busy when we went was Sunday around 2pm. I tried combo with Moroccan chicken and Egyptian curry with regular salad. Comes with saffron rice. chicken was nice and tasty, has a little cinnamon sweet kicks. Idk what is Egyptian curry but it was just a regular curry with zucchini. My man tried sylvak?? Lumb plate. Lumb was pretty tasty! Not stink, was good and tender! Very surprised that both plates are $12 and $12.50!! I haven't seen plate lunch less than $15 recently, specially it's combo and lumb!! I can't believe I attended UHWO for about 4 months, and only now did I decide to check out Da Spot located on campus in the cafeteria area (Building C first level). This is the only food vendor on campus and I hope they'll expand to have other vendors soon! I've always snacked using the vending machines or drove off campus to get some lunch. I am writing this review mainly because of their acai bowl... ughhhhh the mixed feelings I have for this place. First off, 5 STARS for their acai bowl! I am still shocked and amazed that a huge bowl (seems to me that it's 24oz but I could be wrong) is only $6!! I tried their acai bowl before at the King Street location, but that was such a long time ago. They give you the option to choose between apple juice or soymilk base for the acai bowl, and I specifically remember choosing soymilk because I LOVE SOYMILK. It's a unique twist and the color of the acai is lighter and pretty - presentation of the acai bowl with bananas, strawberries, and granola looked appealing too! My only concern was that I had a huge frozen strawberry that didn't get blended in well with the acai. Nonetheless, I would definitely order this again from now on when I'm on campus. I love acai bowls too! FOOD - Other than the acai bowl, I've also tried the grand slam sand and breakfast bowls. The grand slam sand is a bagel/croissant sandwich (your choice of bread) with eggs, a choice of meat, pesto sauce, and cheese. They didn't ask what bread I wanted but it's whatever because I didn't know how to order at the time lol, but I got my sandwich on a bagel and it was so good! Highly recommend. Breakfast bowl? Not so much. The taste was great with a lot of flavors, only if you like veggies (red and green onions, tomatoes/bell peppers, etc) with scrambled eggs on rice. I lost my appetite though because my eggs weren't cooked properly, and I was afraid and unfortunate that this would happen. SERVICE - It's super weird like anyone could probably walk away with the food without paying. I was so confused.. But from experiencing the process, you order your food/drinks first at the food counter and while they're cooking the food for you, you go to the register to pay BUT that's only if there's a cashier there to ring you up, which most of the time there isn't and you're left there standing and waiting for a few minutes. Because of this experience, I'm giving Da Spot UHWO an overall 3 stars. read more

Da Spot gets five stars because of the smoothies! The smoothies are made right there with lots of different options to choose from, and if you don't like the options, you can have your smoothie made to your taste. There are a variety of fruits (strawberry, banana, coconut, pineapple, mixed berries, etc), sorbets (lilikoi, lychee, guava, etc), and liquids (soy milk, passion orange juice, guava juice, etc). And the smoothies are pretty cheap: $3 for 16-oz, $3.50 for 20-oz, and $5 for 32-oz. What a deal! Way cheaper than Jamba Juice. The food is pretty good too. The pre-made food is typically $6 for mini and $8 for regular with main dish, rice, and salad. Some friends got chicken parmesan, which was delicious when I sampled. There are also more typical concession foods like burgers and pizzas. I ordered fish and chips. Pretty sure the fish is frozen and fried, and that's the quality you get. Not the best I've had by far, but still satisfying. The service is actually really good! All of the workers I interacted with in the two times I've eaten at Da Spot were all really nice. They talk stories with you and help you out with what you need. Excited that when I'm at UH West Oahu there's a good food choice on campus. read more

Maybe it was busy, and the guy at the register was swamped at 1045, today, and was the only one ringing the register AND plating the food or because he was having a bad day or something, but he was Extremely Rude. Maybe because the breakfast menu was still up, after they stopped serving breakfast at 1000, or the lunch entree's menu was from the day before (according to him), how can you expect customers to know what they can and cannot order. Granted it's a small location, but maybe have more than one person behind the counter during the lunch rush. I usually don't have problems there, but today's visit was one to remember. read more

Food is cheap for Hawaii. Taste is subpar. Service is horrible. 25 minutes for a shitty turkey melt. The only reason they have customers is because of its convenience and lack of any other options at West O'ahu. I'll be reaching out to West O'ahu about getting this shit show some competition. read more

This is the only eatery place at UH West Oahu, it's actually the first building you see after you park so it's not that hard to find. When I first went here today, I was amazed at how big the eating area was and it looked like a cafeteria with clean and comfortable seating. There was a plate lunch and smoothie/acai area too along with fridges stocked with sodas and beverages. I went to the acai/Smoothie stand area which had a substantial menu. Their plate lunch menu looked good too with options like pizza, chicken katsu curry, and BBQ chicken, but I couldn't eat there since I got fillings recently and my teeth still hurt. The Smoothie menu was substantial with over 20 different flavors and freshly cut fruits. The sizes for the smoothies are Small ($1-$2), Medium ($3), and Large ($5). I got the Strawberry Potion in a medium size which costed $3. The drink contained haupia sorbet, soymilk,and strawberries. I could faintly taste the coconut and strawberry, but it was overall a pretty decent drink. My only complaint is their straw sucks since it's your average soft beverage straw and it's not meant to be used for smoothies that need a more thicker straw. I would definitely come back again because I was satisfied with my smoothie and their prices are very affordable. Da Spot is now at Leeward CC so this is for it's new location. Be forewarned, it was a drastic change in menu prices for "poor", per se, college students since Uluwehi Cafe lost its contract. Prices originally started at $8 mini's, but I speculate sandwiches at $5 are now also sold because of the backlash of not having economical menu options. Only two items ordered so first was chicken parmesan. 4/5 stars since hard to mess this up. Loco moco 2/5 stars hence why review averaged at three stars. The loco moco looked better than it tasted. The fried rice had old, dried rice kernels which turned me off and was not flavorful. The beef patty was overcooked and really dry. The gravy was nothing spectacular. I did have one overcooked and one undercooked (raw looking) egg. Overall not the best for the prices you pay. I'd be happier with a $7.50 footlong next door. read more

We ordered 3 lunch plates from these guys. 1st plate-ordered brown rice and thousand island dressing, they gave white rice and no dressing. 2nd plate-ordered thousand island dressing, they forgot the dressing. 3rd plate-ordered pasta salad, instead of toss, got tossed even though I paid for pasta with no dressing. And to top it all off, the plates were made of cheap cardboard so the food spilled into the bottom plates, MESSY! The messy part puts BITE SQUAD to blame because they delivered. May I add that bitesquad usually checks the order!? Food was good but the presentation and lack of checking the order is not worth EVER ordering from them again. read more

Regardless of people saying that there are roaches and flies in the the cafeteria it is the School's responsibility to help maintain the health regulation and cleanliness of the cafe. However, if I could rate this establishment it would be an exceptional 5/5. Food on the line are the same old same old, Teri miso chicken, butter garlic chicken, Snapper, either red Thai curry or Japanese curry and occasionally Malaysian chicken curry. Although it is the same things everyday, the taste is always great. On my honest opinion, portions are great and it is affordable because it fills you up through out the day. Besides all the things on the line there are also the made to order menu options to consider like the sirloin steak, Katsu, and great wrap sandwiches (almost the size of a small child), but what makes my day the best are their cheese burger combos. It is big (patty weighing about half a pound), with the bun perfectly crisp with a choice of dressing or mayo mustard and ketchup as a condiment, accompanied with fries and a small drink. It is a little pricy( about $10.47) but it is worth it. Only people who say that the food is mediocre are those expecting more like a monkey pod dining experience, but sadly it is an eatery located on a college campus that also have broke ass college students, so sorry they couldn't provide that to those who want more, but that's why you go to college right? Anyway, onto my review about the smoothies. The smoothies are absolutely perfect, made with all fruit and some smoothies containing homemade sorbets and having the choice to make your own smoothie! Possibilities are endless! Besides the smoothies my all time favorites are the Zabadi and Acai bowls, I absolutely love it when the zabadi and acai bowls are thick, covered in granola, sliced strawberries, bananas, and kiwi then drenched with honey. If you're not much of a sweet tooth you can kindly ask to not to drown the acai bowl in honey. If you are squimish about bugs, remember, there's bacteria everywhere and you'll die eventually. Good food, bad management. Schedules the bare minimal # of workers, so these food service staff flit between covering different parts of the operation, while not seeming to be trained in each section of the cafeteria. More than once, this means there's only 1 cashier running between the food line and the register. I've seen several cases where customers get tired of waiting around, so they simply go past the registers into the seating area. Are they paying? Or are they getting unintended freebies? This has occurred on more than 1 day, usually in the midmorning, right before lunch. Today, I ordered something that required no prep (it was in their daily offerings, sitting under the heaters). Somewhere between my order and its plating, there was confusion as to which plate was mine--plates with vastly different entries, I might add. Two guys on the line, both not sure which was mine versus another customer's. In the end, they ignored me and gave the other customer his food, so I had to grab my food myself, rather than let it get cold. It's not like there was a super-long line (around 7-8 folk), but it was lunchtime, when you'd think they'd be prepared for such basic logistical problems. The original kitchen staff didn't ask if I was ordering take-out or dine-in, so they ended up giving me a hard plate...which I had to replate messily and quickly into a cardboard box, to bring into the classroom. At least the girl at the register was nice enough to apologize and bring me the box. [I had asked her for something to cover my food, and said I'd bring the plate back.] Lots of missed connections of which these are typical. Individual staff are nice, and I and my husband have been fans of this chain since it was a one-counter shop in Mo'ili'ili run by that nice Egyptian-Japanese couple. Over the years, we've seen it evolve into a UHM campus food truck then a standalone restaurant within the general University/South King neighborhood of Manoa. However, this particular branch screams lack of training and supervision. I know it's a tough gig...in the afternoons, very few customers arrive, so it might be challenging to gauge labor costs and make the work schedule. But isn't that the biz? Went in, with the intent to donate to a charity item on their menu. Didn't have it, wouldn't make it, nor acknowledge it. Maybe they were busy? Went to order something else, person behind the counter said if I ordered a combo plate of the items I wanted, I would be charged for cost of 2 plates. Clearly it said a price for a combo plate below said items. Asked what else they had and they pointed me to the ala carte line. Then, instead of helping me, they helped the next person in line. Had it, and left. Other than that. the $3 french fries are pretty good. Would only come here because its the only place serving hot food. I really want to like this place, but I've been there several times now and the service leaves much to be desired. The staff need lessons on customer service. Sorry, but I can't tell which is the moroccan chicken vs. egyptian chicken vs. chicken whatevers. I just don't go there enough and it is entirely reasonable to not know which chicken I want when the rice server asks and then to ask what each option is. But the staff seems more interested in enjoying each other behind the counter than addressing the customer needs. I think I'll just wait and go to Mo'ili'ili next time. read more
