Pleasantly surprised to stumble here after first arriving in Venice. We asked for recommendations and were told they are known for their risotto (2 person minimum). We are not typically risotto fans but gave it a shot and were very happy with the meal. It was a seafood risotto and definitely worth trying. Prices are also very reasonable. One word. Perfecto! Gluten free options! Get the Fish appetizer-it's enough to consider it a meal. The risotto was perfect.

This was one of the places my hotel recommended when I asked about dinner spots and one of the better restaurants from my recent trip. Service was very friendly and surprisingly prompt. I had the spaghetti with spicy sauce and shrimp and it was quite tasty. But, be warned, that it comes with the full prawns and a plate to discard the heads/tails. I sort of expected this, but it's still weird to eat with little eyes staring at you. It was one of the more expensive offerings on the menu yet was still reasonable. They also offer a 1/4 liter of house wine for 5 Euros. I went with the white which was a pinot grigio and very good. I arrived around 6:45 which is early for dinner and many of the other guests were American or British, but the table behind me was an Italian family and it seemed like it was their Sunday ritual to eat there - either that or they were the owner's family. Venice can be expensive and many of the more tourist centered restaurants can have disappointing food. Da Poggi was a nice break from that and seemed more authentic Italian. read more

So 2 other reviews had positive things to say about this place for gluten free eating and they were dead on. My wife and I had the meat and cheese tray for 2 and it is amazing. Huge and all the components were so tasty. My wife had the gluten free spaghetti with spicy tomato sauce and she crushed it. I tasted it and it was really good. Spiced super well with just a bit of heat. I had the non gluten free pizza S. Polo which was so good. Slightly greasy but that can be fixed. Negatives here are not huge issues. It is on as slightly busy street so on a weekend with five cruise ships in port it was slightly annoying. Another review mentioned the house wine was just OK which I agree with unfortunately it is their only wine (red). Really not a big issue. Staff was super friendly and really good. Highly recommend if you have both gf and non gf people. read more

Came here after Venice carnival, and expected a nice meal. First, the wine glasses were dirty and the red wine was freezing cold - clearly straight out of the fridge. It also looked like a 3/4 euro bottle we had seen in the supermarket earlier. Also, the waiter, who had clearly taken a distaste to us (maybe because we were english (?) ) initially 'forgot' to even bring us our wine. Finally, to top it off we were overcharged for our meal which we were forced to point out to the waiter. A disappointing and overpriced experience for our anniversary weekend in Venice. I believe the low-rates reviews are mistaken. We stumbled upon Da Poggi at dinner time with an appetite and were satisfied. The waiters were very friendly and spoke English well. Additionally, the cuisine tasted fresh and local. For instance, I had the Spaghetti "Busera" with Langoustines, and Venetian tradition. Fresh tomatoes, spice, and an actual Langoustine on top provided a great flavor to this meal. My sister, with whom I happened to be traveling, had the Tortellini with salmon and vegetable. Don't be alarmed when the pasta is black as it is, I believe, containing squid ink, a testament to its locality. Both of the dishes I would recommend. read more

Customer service was terrible. As 5 women just beginning their first day in beautiful Venice we were struck by this particular waiter's behaviour and it was all around a very disappointing experience. We ordered our drinks and food all at once, drinks came about an hour later even the water, which was fine since we took into account the short staff. Then we waited about another half hour for our food and when it did come they had forgotten about our appetizer and the food we were given was wrong. When we told the waiter this he replied "no it's not that's what you ordered", put it down on the table and left. No "sorry", no "let me see if i can fix if", nothing. Even when we explained to him what we did order he waved his note pad in our faces of what he had written down when he took our order... which meant nothing considering he didn't write down the appetizer we ordered or one of the meals. We didn't fight the waiter as he was speaking to us very forcibly and settled with what we were given, thinking that would be the end of the absurd behaviour. Throughout the meal never once did he ask us how it was or if we wanted more water or drinks when we were all out. When he cleared our plates he asked me how mine was, I said it was fine, not trying to cause anything, but it would have been great if not for the fact that half of my meal was still frozen, as if out of a package. He didn't ask us if we wanted to see the dessert menu or if we wanted the bill, he just kept moving. Once we were finished, 2 of my friends got up to use the toilet to find that it was clogged, proceeding to come back and sit down at the table. Our waiter approached them basically shouting "what did you put in the toilet???" We were so taken aback by this that we thought maybe we misheard him. My friend replied "yes the bathroom toilet is clogged maybe you should put a sign up", he replied "a sign ??? For what?", she replied "to tell people that it is out of order", he replied "but what did you put in the toilet to clog it?", very aggressively, she then replied "i didn't put anything in the toilet, it was like that when i went in there", laughing in total disbelief, he then replied "well then why didn't you tell me!", continuing to argue for another minute or so before walking away. We couldn't believe how we were being treated. We were finally given the bill after about half an hour of being finished our food. When we paid for our food he started saying "i didn't want to argue i was just asking what you put in the toilet", my other friend responded "we didn't put anything in the toilet" in an annoyed way, as you would be, the expression on his face looked as though he was thinking 'what makes you think you can talk to me that way'. We asked his name and he first refused to give it, he later said it was Isaac. For remaining as polite as we were from the start, we can all say we agree that we have never met someone so rude in our lives. read more

If I could give it no stars I would! I am gluten free and the crackers were good, my boyfriend is not gluten free and the bread was horrible. We got the antipasto of salami and an assorted cheese and the meats was assorted but the cheese was just Parmesan we let that go because the meat was good. We then waited for 45 minutes for the waitress (in a New York tee shirt and sweats no bra) to take away the empty tray. She proceeding to have conversations with everyone including a random friend that ran inside to see her. We waited another 45 min for our meal mine the gluten free spaghetti with large shrimp was pretty good my boyfriend's fried fish was horrible the shrimp that was cooked in the restaurant wasn't deveined and then there was the clearly frozen prepackaged deveined shrimp with an olive fried it was so bad he couldn't eat it and he loooooves shrimp and sea food. We waited another 30 min for a check. And it was CASH ONLY they do not tell you this until the end. For €69 it was not worth it. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. read more

Found this spot through an airbnb recommendation (which we will advise our hosts to no longer include), and encountered the worst dining experience of our lives. The waiter (who said his name is Isaac) was beyond abrasive and should not be in the service industry. Taking a family trip w my mother, sister in law, niece, and her friend, we were 5 women excited to start our trip in Venice. We were understanding when he told us he was short-staffed after the drinks took an hour to arrive, but things quickly went downhill when our food finally arrived 30 minutes after that. One of this dishes was incorrect and rather than try to correct the mistake, he accused us of not knowing what we ordered and left the food at the table. Not wanting to spoil the meal, we re-arranged our dishes and just accepted it (the dish he left had seafood in it which I couldn't eat so my niece's friend generously switched her choice). He has also failed to bring our appetizer and again instead of trying to correct this, he stated that we didn't order it and waved his notepad in our face (like we had written the order or something). We were shocked at that point, and even though my niece's pasta was cold, she told us afterwards that she had been afraid to bring it to his attention. When we were ready to leave, we went to use the toilet but it was clogged. Returning to the table, he approached us and asked us what we put in the toilet - we were confused bc obviously we hadn't, but he continued to argue and accuse us. We just wanted to pay and leave, and as we tried to, I asked his name which he refused at first to provide (most likely bc he was ashamed of his actions), and then proceeded to accuse us of telling him he couldn't speak anymore. The entire experience was absurd and unlike any of the others we've had thus far elsewhere in the country, where we've come across nothing but friendly service and amazing food. I beg you not to go here - unless you're looking for dinner and a show. read more

I don't know where to start. I can't say that I've ever had worse customer service in all my dining experiences but it's hard to remember an experience as terrible as this one. I'm from Charlotte NC and I'm in Venice on vacation. The hotel guest service told me this was the closest restaurant to my hotel so I assumed they were recommending it to me which I later found out to be a literal statement, they were just trying to tell me that this was practically the closest restaurant to the hotel and nothing more. First of all, we waited for 45 minutes for our order to come out but it turned out to be an order for another table. We waited for an additional 30 minutes for our food to come out; and that was just the appetizer. In retrospect, the place looked empty so that should have been an indicator. In the States, superior customer service helps you to forget the poor quality of the food but we received neither here. The food was unseasoned; completely unseasoned, not even salt. I don't know who runs the kitchen here but you could probably achieve better quality food using recipes available on Google. I politely asked the waiter to see if he could get my plate seasoned and salted and he said to me verbatim, "there's cheap salt in America". I don't know if he was joking or not, he never broke a smile or grin during that whole service. My plate came back but I didn't want to take the chance that someone had spit in my food so I didn't eat it; I just got that kind of vibe from this place. We paid and left the food on the table!
