    Da Fiore soft shell crab

I had a list of respectable Venetian restaurants prior to my arrival in Venice. After failing to get into the first choice on my list, I didn't know what to do. Venice is a city easy to confuse and boggle your sense of direction. I wandered aimlessly for a few minutes before stumbling upon Da Fiore. Hey! This place is also on the list! Bingo! And they had an open table. Clearly, this is a special place. Because I was traveling and touring all day, I wasn't dressed for this place, but others were similarly attired. If you want to dress for dinner in Venice, this is the place to do it, however. By the end of the evening the place was filled with the societal creme. While I was alone, I could easily imagine this could be a romantic spot as well. Prior to my meal, the Chef sent a Cold Salmon over Aged Cream amuse bouchée. I knew I was off to the right start. For an appetizer, I selected the Cold Shrimp and Burrata. The name does not do it justice. The shrimp was sitting in a white asparagus cream, topped by the creamy burrata with a spoon of caviar sprinkled over the top. It really was decadent. Rich, creamy and unexpected ( who can recall the taste of white asparagus?) I can still recall the flavor. My only issue was a missing knife. A spoon was the required tool for consumption, but a few of the shrimp were a touch too big to make that possible. As my entree, I selected the Soft Shell Crab. April is apparently the season for these treats in Italy and the Italian version is substantially smaller than what is available in the US, but nonetheless prepared in a very similar way. The fried surroundings did not detract from the delicate crustacean meat inside. To pay the right amount of respect, a simple seasonal salad and polenta accompanied the crabs. It was sublime. Lesser things than this dessert have bee the subject of sonnets. A pear was stuffed with vanilla ice cream and drenched with cranberry glaze. It sat on a crumble disc. If that wasn't enough, small slices were incised into the surface of the pear. A disc of chocolate was slid into the cut and topped with a blueberry and a miniature mint leaf. That flatness was what was needed as consumption continued. I felt I was eating heaven. The moscato rose was a perfect accompaniment. To finish, a trio of cookies, one better than the next. This was a great meal I will not soon forget. If you elect to try this place, I can't imagine a different reaction. Everyone involved at the place is working to insure a fabulous experience.

Overall, food was good, but not at the caliber I'd expect a one Michelin starred restaurant to be at. Also the food was overpriced for what you got. Came here last November for a dinner reservation that I booked online through email. It was pretty empty and I was basically the only one here on a Monday night. It has a typical fine-dining interior and vibe, but what did stand out was the beautiful handmade glassware from Murano. I had what looked like a young waiter who was a bit awkward and didn't really know what he was going, but it worked out. I ordered the Tortelloni stuffed with pumpkin, ginger, cinnamon and sweet potato with prawn ragout, black truffle and poppy seeds (36€) and the Soft shell crabs "Moleche" from Burano fried with Polenta (49€). For what it's worth, I think they were both overpriced. I also ordered the Tiramisu for dessert and they gave me a complimentary potato soup to start. The tortelloni was the best dish of the meal! It came out a bit too hot, but was delicious after that. The shrimp and pasta were cooked perfectly. The soft shelled crab were so fresh and slightly salty with a crunch outside and a soft, viscous center. You could eat them in two or three bites. In the end, the meal was alright, but I think it was too much for what you paid and there wasn't anything outstanding about the food, service or the experience.

Rating: 30/100 pts The reviews for this restaurant were pretty mixed when I came here, but there were enough positive comments to make me want to check it out for a fine meal in Venice. It is easily the worst Michelin experience I have had to date. Though they have extensive tasting menus for dinner, I came with my wife for lunch, when they have what seemed like a great deal: a 3-course meal for 50 euro, and you can choose from among 4 different courses. Each member at your table can choose a different course, allowing you to choose the meal that best serves your palate. Sounds good, right? Read on. First off, service is lacking. One should never expect GREAT service in Italy, but having a coveted "estrella" elevated my hopes, which were only to be toppled down. Our waiter was brusque, and always seemed annoyed with us. In addition to the attitude, whenever he came to the table, he had this constant, noticeably heavy breathing that didn't relent, and when away, we could hear him loudly conversing with the other waiters. Still, we ordered our meals and hoped for the best. My wife's pumpkin soup tasted good, but Breathes-Heavy must have slipped on the way out of the kitchen, because it was dripping over the sides by the time it reached us. There is a way to artistically place food AROUND dishes, but after much debate, we concluded it must have been accidental, as it drooped over the sides. Next, Breathalyzer presented our main dishes. Mine was pistachio-crusted swordfish and greens. The greens were what you get from a generic "mixed greens" bag, and the swordfish was just okay. I enjoyed it at the time, but in retrospect, it felt generic, like what you'd get at a bad wedding. My wife's main dish was literally a mountain of tempura. Bits were stacked atop each other like building blocks. It was way too much fried food to have a shred of elegance, and even working together we could not finish it. It tasted oKAY, but not much different from what you'd get from a fast-food tempura place in Japan (where we live). It felt laughable that we came all the way to Venice to eat a plate of tempura for 50 euro. Before dessert, Darth Waiter came back with his bread crumb sweeper. He did one central streak with it, towards me, and then hurtled away, leaving trails of bread crumbs on the sides, in a move that some may construe as offensive. My wife and I are not snooty in the least, however, and found the whole situation innocuously hilarious. If you are reading this, you are most likely considering Da Fiore for a fine dining experience in Venice. I would advise against coming here. In fact, meals are overpriced all throughout Venice, so my advice would be to eat more conservatively here, and get the most bang for your euro by splurging elsewhere. Positives are the appetizers being fairly good, and the use of Venice's unique Murano glass for the dishware, which made the meal feel at least somewhat sophisticated.

It's hard to believe people give this restaurant anything less than 5 stars. This was the highlight of our dining in Venice. Located on a quiet side path and a canal, the dining room is modern without being pretentious or losing touch with the traditions of Venice. We started with a fresh strawberry sprite, super refreshing and delicious. If you have someone needing gluten free they can definitely have a fine meal. Next we had a of couple appetizers; the whipped cod fish purée and raw artichoke salad which is a seasonal treat. This was followed by an herbal risotto with shrimp, one of the best risottos ever. Desert was lemon sorbetto with licorice. Excellent meal and glad we found it.

Amazing food. One of our best meals in Italy. The 1.5 kg Florentine steak was amazing.

We sat indoors which felt so nice with the AC! The food and drinks were okay taste-wise. I would give the taste a 6.5 out of 10. Good yet not tons of flavor. The food was good for filling our tummies in the moment but not good enough to return. The worst part - food poisoning. I had the calamari and boyyyyy was I sick afterwards. It turned our experience from "okay" to "ouchhhhh". Unfortunately, we will not be returning for more. :(

Was able to make a reservation for 3 somehow on some local platform (spouse) for 8 pm Sunday…read moreevening in June. Other walk in accommodated as much as possible. Arrived a bit early and seated at window seat inside immediately. The inside is cozy but adequate. The staff hustled and were very efficient and friendly. We ordered the seafood special based upon walking in and seeing a huge pan on fresh seafood on table and thus made it easy for me and the kid to decide. It was their house special at 35 euros per person (minimum 2). Included lobster and a bunch of shrimp, clams, mussels, and calamari in a red broth. Also two large scallops. Takes at least 30 minutes to prep so need the appetizers to get you by. The also close out the special by tossing in pasta after your done with the seafood into the remaining broth. Full disclosure it's a mess to eat. Must use hands. The cover you with s bib. It was delicious. The spouse does not like briny seafood so she didn't eat much but more than enough for 3 (except not for the scallops and lobster portion). We started with a few appetizers. Spouse had the lasagna. It looked good and home made but again I ignored it due to the mountain in front of me. A few drinks and bottle of water. I wish the pasta was available before the end but understand they want to toss it into your pan of sauce. I had originally asked to order a pasta to complement but they said it came with a pasta after ( so I agreed ). Obviously we are tourist so I can't take extra home of which would have been plenty. Total cost about 143 euros. (No additional taxes or tip). Credit card available but we needed to roll home to hotel so left 150 cash on table.
