This place is awesome. I googled for good eats in Venice and this place came up on a Guardian article. Since the hostel my friend and I were staying at was near the place, we decided to give it a go. It's not terribly difficult to find, but I will say that Google Maps messes up the address. It's really small and easy to miss, but just look for 1518 on the correct street! The first thing that we noticed was how cozy and homy the place was. This was how we knew that we had stumbled upon a gem. They have a very basic menu that's written in a number of languages and the waiter's English is perfectly fine. You can order basic pasta and seafood dishes as full on dishes, or you can opt for the menu of the day, which is what we went for. The menu of the day when we went was spaghetti with clams, fried seafood (calamari, shrimp, and anchovies), and a side dish (Either salad or potato.) While each dish was fairly small, it was more than filling enough! The spaghetti with clams is what you would expect, but I was really excited about the fried seafood dish. Each piece of seafood was amazing and fried to perfection. No tartar sauce.. but that's probably just being a silly American thing, but still oh-so-flavorful. Final bill was also cheap! The menu of the day was 13.5 euros while our Spritz was only 4 euros. Food also came extremely quickly--we waited 5 minutes maybe? tldr; small place, fast but high quality--menu of the day and their daily specials change and they're all quite typical Venetian dishes. I'm a fan! a must-go for sure with cheap prices

We stayed at Venice for 3 days and it's been tough for us to find an "OK" restaurant. Everything here is more expensive and the portion and quality are not as good as that in mainland Italy. I was pissed bcoz I went to a bad bad place for cuttlefish ink pasta. What a waste for my stomach. We yelped this restaurant and tried several times to find it. Da Luca e Fred isn't easy to find. The sign is very small and not clear at all. We tried several times and I'm happy that we didn't give up. We finally had a lunch here and it turned out a great experience in Venice island. The cuttlefish ink spaghetti is really good, with a great price only 8€. Big plate salad tastes good too. We also ordered tiramisu and coffee and 1/2 of house white wine. I strongly recommend this place. Already decided to come back for dinner today!

My adorable mother having some vino!! Wonderful outdoor seating.

Great family style restaurant with reasonable prices. Popular with locals which is always a good thing.

A combination of a thunderstorm and an early dinner meant the place was empty, but Marco and other staff welcomed us warmly all the same. We had the antipasti Parmigiana Di Melanzane (fried eggplant with cheese) and enjoyed the mains Pasta Al Forno (baked pasta with beef and peas), Pasta Con Le Polpette E Salsa Di Pomodoro (spaghetti with meatballs - not pictured), and Turbante Di Pesce Spada "A Beccafico" (baked swordfish). These were also with the Casa Rosso wine and Birra Siciliana beer both blonde and red. All food was superb. The fried eggplant was flavorful and fresh, and the bread was crispy and savory. The baked pasta was rich, the spaghetti and meatballs were nostalgic, and the swordfish was delectable. Safe to say we all cleared our plates easily. We wish nothing but the very best for Marco and his restaurant. This food was some of the best we had on our two week stay throughout Italy. The atmosphere, staff, and of course the amazing food made for a great experience that we would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced homestyle Sicilian meal.

From the moment we arrived, the owner, Marco, made us feel genuinely welcome. He explained that the food is Sicilian and quite different from what you typically find in Venice, which was exactly what we were hoping for after days of similar menus. The menu is short, focused, and built around family recipes. We ordered the pasta of the day, the roast beef, and the smoked salmon dish, and every single item was fantastic. To finish, we had limoncello made by Marco's mother, and it was absolutely delicious. What really made the evening special was Marco and his family. They were warm, kind, and genuinely happy to share their story with us. We loved hearing about his late father and the lasting impact he had on both the family and the restaurant. One of the most memorable parts of the night was joining in the restaurant tradition of coloring pictures and exchanging them with drawings already hanging on the ceiling. We ended up taking home a picture created by a family member, and it will be making the journey back with us to Carlsbad, California. Without a doubt, this was the best dining experience of our entire trip through Europe. Highly recommended!!

The waiter is very friendly and invite us to have lunch, and menu price look reasonable so let's go for it. We ordered clam and mussels. So amazing and yummy, especially the soup! I really want to finish all of it. The scallop spaghetti is also very yummy. I love this place. Good vibe, friendly service, and most important is the food quality. 5 stars for sure. For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!
