Stopping here to grab lunch and ended up ordering a small bottle of wine and a delicious cheese pizza. The cheese pizza had buffalo mozzarella and white truffles which set me back about 35 Euros but well worth it! The waiter recommended I give the barolo wine I try so we got a small bottle of that and polished it off for lunch. Drinking the small bottle of wine really helped with the jet lag coming from the United States earlier in the morning and allowing me to get a good power napp shortly thereafter. 4 New Yorkers walked into this restaurant and agreed it was one of the best meals they'd ever had. Service was spot-on. Our server was happy to recommend a fantastic Vermentino, complex enough to sip and enjoy on a hot summer day, without breaking the budget. On a whim, we tried the Vegetarian Appetizer Plate - you will never have vegetables cooked as well as this. It was basically a plate of assorted roasted veggies and each one melted in your mouth. We tried a few pizzas and the Spaghetti Pomodoro. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente and the sauce was incredible. It was a perfectly composed dish in simplicity and taste. We had the Tartufo pizza, which was generous with its truffle mushrooms, and one with an assortment of olives, artichokes, and egg. We were told this was traditional Roman pizza - crust was thin, crispy, and charred on the edges, with a yummy center. This restaurant is definitely overrated. It's super touristy. I would prefer to spend money on better quality. We came because the ratings were high. To be honest, the presentation of food looked rather sloppy in the pictures. But, against my better judgement we decided to give it a try simply based on the ratings. There are far better restaurants than this in Rome; this is a bit of a joke given its ratings The food quality is mediocre and the prices high for what you get. The food is as it looks in the pictures, sloppy. Tastes are not distinguishing. The staff also isn't very forthright with pricing for additions. For example, I asked if my meatballs came with anything & the waitress said "I will bring bread". I didn't understand that meant at an additional 3 euro charge. To top it off the meatballs were poor quality meat with cartilage inside. All in all, a very touristy place that is over priced and over rated. Great last dinner in Rome. There was no wait, and it didn't feel like a typical "tourist trap" restaurant where a worker is staffed outside reeling in business from any passerby's. OK first things first. Rome in August is hot...like words can't describe how gross I got on a regular basis hot. Why did I come to Rome in August? Well first of all it's when things lined up, and second of all no one made me pick the hottest place in the world in the hottest month, I just wanted to go, so stop judging me! Anyway, walking into Da Francesco was, um, let's go with unique. You normally don't expect the inside of a restaurant that has a giant line outside begging for a table to be hotter than the ambient outdoor temperature. I honestly couldn't believe how hot it was in there, and yet I'm 4 starring the place, so that tells you something about the quality of the food. If you like the idea of checking out the oldest part of the eternal city, and you should, then Ponte is the right part of town for you to stay in...go in March or November. After a few hours of walking along the original Bernini cobblestones (same guy who did the Vatican), you'll develop a strange craving for a beer and margarita pizza, or wine and carbonara with speck. Trust me, this will happen. When it does, you'd be hard pressed to beat Da Francesco for a few really simple reasons: * First and foremost is the quality of the food. Its handmade, that's obvious, but it's also insanely delicious. * It's reasonably priced, borderline cheap for what you get. Seriously, you can get an amazing meal here for between 10-20 euros a person; couple that with the aforementioned quality, and you'll understand why there is a line of hungry Italians beating at the door every night. * The staff is super pleasant. They treat you very well; even if they are super cranky from working in the hottest restaurant in the world, they'll never let you know. I came here twice on our last visit to Rome, it was seriously that good. Other places have a host or hostess luring you in with coupons for free prosecco or other gimmicks. Those same places will have, in little writing a 10% "Servizio" charge; I'm all about tipping, but only the touristy of tourist restaurants in a country where waiters make a decent living add in a service charge (it's akin to paying more to eat in Times Square). Da Francesco does none of this, mostly because they don't need to. No games, no one trying to sheepdog you through the door, just amazing in-house made food at a reasonable price. Not only was my dinner a bargain, but it was undoubtedly the best meal I had in Italy! Definitely our best meal in Rome, thanks to a tour guide who suggested this spot which was on our way "home" from the tour drop off. As this place is popular and highly rated, you'll probably end up with a bit of a wait (we waited for ~20 minutes on a Monday night in late September at ~9pm). Now, this place isn't the smallest place we visited on the trip, but they do make it feel small by cramming people in here, and even doing some "family style" tables where you may be sitting with another couple or group. Like everywhere else, the wine is cheap, so you're pretty much forced to get a bottle, so we happily sipped on our Chianti while waiting to place our order. Again, service isn't fast paced in Italy so we did have to wait a bit to order, but enjoyed watching the pizza man spin his dough, and the ham get carved off the leg right next to our table. Being that we had just come off an all day tour we were famished, and each selected an appetizer to start. I had the tuna carpaccio which was perfect (I wanted something cold), my mother had a very different artichoke salad that we both weren't sure we liked, but it was very different (in a good way), and my step father had the brushetta, which I didn't try, but looked very vibrant on the plate. Our tour guide had made some suggestions on dishes to try while in Rome, so I went with his choice - Amatriciana, which was delicious!! I've never had a tomato sauce quite like this one, and absolutely loved it. My step father had a lobster pasta dish which I found a hair too fishy (and I'm not one to say anything is fishy) but he loved it, and I did steal a bite of my mother's truffled carbonara which of course was heaven. For dessert we had to try the pistachio tiramisu, which eliminated most of the coffee flavor (not a coffee fan) so I pretty much inhaled this dish! The egg flip with wild strawberries was also tried (think custard with strawberries) which I actually liked less than I thought I would, but I was still excited to eat wild strawberries ;) not something we find much around my part of the world lol. Solid 4 stars for the food, and maybe even a 4.5 considering the pricing! Highly recommend when in Rome and anywhere near the Piazza Navona area! read more

This is by far THE BEST restaurant in Rome. My husband and I loved it so much, we ate here two nights in a row. Customer service is friendly even though they were busy and everybody had a jolly attitude. Restaurant is pretty cramped and noisy with all the patrons dining but I don't mind it at all because: busy restaurants = amazing food. Because of the limited space, you are seated really close to other patrons so don't come here thinking you can have a romantic intimate dinner. They take amazing care of customers who come back for multiple visits and the host seated us right away on our second visit (even though there was a big line outside and it was raining). The bathroom is super small/cramped but it was very clean. We pretty much ate everything on the menu. The food was so amazing, I don't think we can find anything like it in America....ever! matriciana = nice kick and just the right amount of spice. Pick this if you're looking for a jazzy red sauce. pizza crust= perfectly thin and crispy. We had the pizza with arugula and thin sliced beef and the pizza with mushrooms, mozzarella, onions, sausage. Both were phenomenal. I can eat the whole thing but sadly, I had to share with the husband so I was only able to eat half :-( fettuccine with peas, bacon= creamy and you get a hint of sweetness from the peas. I'm pretty sure they used fresh peas. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and of course the bacon flavor was the best part! bolognese= the best I've ever had. I wanted to lick the plate but I didn't want to embarass my husband during our honeymoon. This is your standard red meat sauce with the tartness of the tomatoes and robust umami flavor of the beef. You really can't beat that. It tasted so beefy, I was pretty much in heaven. caccio y pepe may sound plain (cheese and pepper pasta) but the homemade pasta and sauce is to die for. For those of you who had never had caccio y pepe, just think of it as a super classy version of your mac and cheese but with pasta instead of macaroni. It is simple but decadent. I am so glad my first time eating caccio y pepe was here at Da Francesco. tiramisu= amazing; not too sweet and you can really taste the espresso. I lived in Roma for ten weeks and I only discovered this place about two weeks before departing... if I were to chose something I regretted not doing enough of during my stay in Roma, it would be not eating here more often. 1. The service is amazing. Like many other Italian places, you feel like you're at home. If you ask the waiters what they think is good, they'll tell you and advise you on what to get. And they're insanely kind. 2. The atmosphere is great. It's in an alley a little ways away from Piazza Navona. It's a very calm area, and on occasion, there will be musicians in the alley to make it a truly memorable Italian experience. 3. Most importantly, the food. Wow wow wow. SO GOOD. Best Italian food I had during my stay. I'm not a fan of tomatoes back in the States, but the tomatoes in Italy were so delicious. The bruschetta with tomatoes and garlic- so flavorful and juicy. I could honestly order 4 of them and have those be my meal. I also tried the bolognese, carbonara, arrabiata, eggplant parmesan, and the caprese salad. They were all so good that I would never be able to just pick one favorite. Another reason why I wish I came here earlier- I think all the dishes would be equally delicious. SO GO HERE. First night in Rome and my wife and I picked a restaurant that was close to the stops on Rick Steve's "Heart of Rome Walk". This place got mixed reviews on Yelp, but we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was located among some really lively bars that spilled over into the piazza, so it was a great location. Also, it was a block away from Piazza Navona and a short walk to Campo Di Fiori. There were 2 or 3 couples and a larger party outside the door trying to get a table. It was unclear who we needed to see to get a table. There was a guy who looked like a host running around the restaurant doing all sorts of other things. But, finally he came and got us and seated us at a table inside. So, I guess he did see us, he just didn't communicate that to us, so we were a little stressed. There was a large dining room inside and lots of scenic outdoor seating off to the side. We might have wanted to sit outside because it was a nice night, but it seems like in Rome the people with reservations get the outdoor seating and the walk up crowd gets put inside. Which was fine because tonight- it's about the food, so lets get it on. Inside, the restaurant looked exactly like you would want a restaurant in Rome to look. It had pictures of Italian scenes on the walls, Roman arch ways, a wood fired pizza oven in plain sight, wine on full display, etc. I asked for the vino rosso della casa (Red wine of the house). It was...only ok. I'm not a wine connoiseur, but we both only kind of liked it. We ordered the "antipasti rusitco", which was an assortment of Italian meats including various salamis, prosciutto, Parmesan cheese triangles, sun dried tomatoes, a few olives and an artichoke. It was absolutely delicious. The meats were all very fresh, each with a distinct flavor and melted in your mouth. I have read and been told that the signature 'Sauce' of Rome is the Carbonarra (Creamy sauce made with egg and pork cheek) So for my first meal, I went for it right away! My pasta was just ok. I realize Romans like it al dente, but this was undercooked al dente in my opinion. The sauce, however was delicious! The pork cheek amounted to firm bits of tasty meat with a kind of bacon flavor and a small amount of thin fat. The pork cheek gave the creamy sauce a deep, almost 'smoky' flavor. There was a good amount of sauce too, which you might not be able to see in the picture because it came covered in Parmesan Reggiano cheese. My wife ordered the Tonnarelli All' Astice, which was a thick pasta with lobster. Her pasta was also under cooked al dente. It came with a whole lobster broke into pieces with the shells cut so she could get to the meat without too much trouble. Now listen- I love lobster and I am all for the claws and tails in the shell on the pasta. But the chest cavity with all of its contents...You can leave that on the cutting board... I also thought the dish was very dry. A bit more sauce would have been nice, but it did have good flavor. One note about the bathroom, and to be fair, we experienced this other places in Rome. BUT- the toilets had no seats. I will spare you the rest of these details, but it was not pretty. So...There are good and bad reviews for Da Francesca on Yelp and that's kind of how this restaurant experience was for us. The wine was ok, the appetizer was great, the sauces were good, but the pasta was undercooked for me and my wife's dish was dry. I think it's safe to say that there are some great dishes here, but it's hit and miss. Went here twice in a short 3 day trip to Rome. The food was that good. They start with a bag of breads that are delicious with some olive oil and pepper. The octopus carpaccio was delicious. Very fresh tasting and refreshing, although I would've liked the octopus sliced a little thicker. Cacio e Pepe is a classic here, served with tonarelli. Rich, creamy, and delicious. The pizza is also good - the Quattro formaggi had a perfect amount of gooey cheese, and delicious blue cheese was highlighted throughout. The spaghetti with clams was perfect - light sauce, perfect amount of crushed red pepper for a slight kick, and good amount of clams. Delicious. My favorite dish though (and favorite of my time in Rome) was the carbonara. I had this twice, the first time with the black truffles. It was mind blowing. Extremely rich with the egg yolk, perfectly cooked spaghetti, great salt note from the bacon, and amazing flavor from the truffles. Unfortunately the second time wasn't as good (the egg cooked in the pasta and turned more into scrambled eggs than a rich sauce), but it was still delicious. Also tried the pistachio tiramisu, which was ok, but I had high expectations. The layers in it were syrupy which I didn't love. The pistachio cream was good but not enough pistachio flavor in it. These places will serve you minimal servings of twisted classic dishes turning them into a joke. They will decorate your empty plate with dots of dressing and Piles of foam. I had the spaghetti alla carbonara and my bf had the black truffle fettuccini carbonara. Both were not as I expected them to be. The black truffle carbonara was super salty and peppery too! The noodles were chewy because they are al dente but they were thick. The spaghetti carbonara was more egg tasting than the other one I got before. The bacon is so different in this country and I have to accept that while in Rome. Service - they are busy running around but they are efficient. Like many people have said, they aren't like American servers where they keep asking you or interrupting, so that means letting them know when you're ready to order and even pay. While we were in Italy for our honeymoon we found this place because of yelp. It's off the main roads and tricky to find because Google maps is so bad! However it was with getting lost trying to find it and so good we ate here twice! I had the tagliatelle with tartufo y lardo which started my addiction into black truffles. The dish was bursting with flavor and highly recommended. My wife had the tortellini with funghi (mushrooms) which was also very good. We also had the house red which is such a great value and was very good. We enjoyed the food do much we went back for lunch. The second time we both decided to have pizzas. I of course got the tartufo pizza which was so simple mozzarella and slices of black truffle but was probably my favorite pizza of the trip. I even ended up buying some sliced black truffle to try and make it when I returned home. My wife had a pizza with sausage and mushrooms with was good. Both pizzas had a thin and delightfully crispy crust. My mouth is watering just writing this review and wishing I were back in Rome eating at Da Francesco right now!! It was our last night in Rome on the 31st of May so we wanted a nice restaurant for the end of our vacation. We did not have a reservation and could not remember where it was located. I googled it and found it was near the Piazza Navona, I figured we would not be able to get in since it was 6:30 pm and we were in the Piazza at our favorite outside cafe Tucci's. I called the restaurant and they could not have been more accommodating. To make a long story short, it was an amazing meal. I had the home made pasta in a black truffle cream sauce. It was delicious. No that is not correct. It was amazing. My husband had the meatballs. In Italy meatballs are an entree. You will never find spaghetti and meatballs on a menu because it is an American dish not true Italian dish. He is still raving about how good that was to this day. If you want a great meal with wonderful service and great ambience, find your way to the Piazza del Fico or make a reservation before you go. It is a 3 minute walk from the Piazza Navona and believe me it is worth the short walk for a great meal. read more

Each bite was hard to go on without wanting to chug a glass of water and the sauce was on the extra thick side LOBSTER PASTA - the dish was bland but at the same time with just a taste of the sea. Salty water. Not really a fresh sweet taste from the lobster. Must be because our lobster was extremely skimpy. We had small horrible pieces. Not even the claw had a decent fat chunk of claw meat. Skimpiest lobster pieces I've ever received in my life. PISTACHIO TIRAMISU - I wouldn't really say tiramisu at all. That's deceiving.. It's really just a pistachio cake... We were seated outside and got to be in close quarters to two other tables. Thankfully the other people dining near us were very fun and made for an enjoyable evening. Dinner was delicious. We ordered insalata capricciosa, fettuccine alla gricia con tartufo, and spaghetti all'amatriciana The salad was fresh and light. I usually do not like olives but found the olives tasty. The fettuccine was similar to carbonara but with truffles. All of the dishes were full of flavor. I particularly enjoyed the fettuccine. We would come back again if we could! Great service, great food and super cool atmosphere. They have a Spanish ham sitting out to slice prosciutto from sitting next to a plate of black truffles (full sized truffle!) Started with a salad with tuna egg and tomatoes which was very good. They let you make salad dressing with white vinegar and oil which was solid on this salad. Then I got the carbonara pasta with black truffle and bacon and my girlfriend got the fettuccine with truffle and bacon. Both dishes were fantastic! Very happy with the tons of shaved truffle on my spaghetti and my girlfriends dish had enough truffle to taste in it. Our waitress was fantastic and super helpful! Went for a second try at this restaurant less than 24h after our first attempt. This time round we tried Black Truffle Fettuccine, Fresh Pasta and yet another Carbonara. For a starter, we had Fungi and Prosciutto Ham Pizza. While it was great, it wasn't as delicious as the Black Truffle Pizza that we had the night before, which aroma had sent us almost drooling in response. Likewise, for the Black Truffle Fettuccine, the taste of bacon was so strong that it undermined the flavor of black truffle. The lack of truffle bits to complement the pasta, which was present for the pizza, also made the dish a 4* one instead of the 5* dish we were expecting. On the whole, for a 5* experience, get the Black Truffle Pizza as a starter and a carbonara for the main dish. Having the house wine to accompany the meal is also a great idea. Topping it off with some savory tiramisu would also be ideal. read more

PERFETTO. I looove this place. Was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. Pros: Food is just awesome, Cons: Service was a bit meh considering it's literally always busy. Must make a reservation at least half a day in advance, or wait for hours. Food: I ordered the tagliatelle with black truffle and shared the lasagna with a friend. The pasta was fresh, home made, perfectly cooked. The truffle added an awesome flavor. That dish was a bit greasy, but tasty. The lasagna was the best I've had in my life. My friend and I were scraping the plate clean with our forks. Atmosphere: Lovely cozy atmosphere inside, it's in an area of lots of restaurants -- most of which are touristy. This place definitely has tourists, but if anything, it's tourists who know how to eat, so I wasn't bothered it. Value: Two euro signs would be appropriate. I think it's worth the cash. Service: Like I said, it's really busy, so service was just okay. Not a big deal for me though. read more

Overall, this was the best place I ate at on Rome. This is one of those places that it's best to make a reservation before you come here because if not, it will be a wait for a table. To start, we each shared a liter of their house red wine, which was cheap, good, and real strong. For my meal, I had two things and that was the Cacio e Pepe and pollo de pepperoni (chicken with red peppers). Both were straight up great and delicious. Also had dessert here and that was the tiramisu, which also was great. When you add on great people and service and only a ten minute walk from piazza navona, you have a great place to eat at in Rome. read more

This place was just okay. I don't know why it has such rave reviews. Anyone notice the ratio of local to tourist reviewers? We ordered a mushroom fettuccini and a ravioli. Both were noticeably fresh made but the sauces were just mediocre. The mushrooms were good but the sauce was way to runny. The tomato sauce for the ravioli was way too tart. The food was good and the prices were reasonable but not memorable. We tried the bruschetta w/ truffle cream, spaghetti w/ clams and black truffle mushroom pizza. We also just ate some amazing pizza for lunch in the Trastevere area and Da Francesco's just wasn't as good. I really don't think this place is a must try in Rome. What really made me go here was seeing pics of the octopus carpaccio but sadly decided not to get it because they noted on their menu that its frozen food. If I'm going to eat some carpaccio it better be fresh! Service charge not included in the bill and there's no cover charge (copeto). read more

This place has one of the best truffles, artichokes and pastas around. Come here early to beat the crowd as it does fill up fairly quickly during lunch hour. We didn't order pizza this time but they do have some very tasty looking ones. And they looked big too. read more

Went here twice on our three-day stay in rome First time (lunch): service was superb my friend and I shared one pizza and one pasta dish - pizza: funghi e proscuitto (mozz, mushroom, ham) - pasta: fettucine with ham, green peas, egg and parmesan the pizza was delicious, but wasn't a big fan of the crust the pasta took the spotlight - the homemade pasta was perfectly cooked al dente and the flavors complimented each other perfectly - it was one of the best pastas i've every had hands down! Since my friend and I enjoyed our meal + service the first time we decided to come back here for our last meal in europe Second time (dinner): service was subpar my friend and I got a pasta dish EACH - my pasta: black truffle pasta - friend's pasta: carbonara my pasta was quite delicious, but my friend's pasta was quite disappointing (it was TOO creamy and thick) (the spaghetti pasta is not as good as their fettucine) still great pasta, but it didn't live up to the hype we created in our heads the first time we came here read more

Cute little Italian restaurant that I recommend if it is sunny outside and you would like to enjoy a quiet and relaxing lunch. There's an indoor and outdoor. I ordered the Pizza with mushrooms, mozzerella, & sausage for 9 euro and out came a incredibly large portion that was wonderfully delicious. Red wine also very nice. Server gave us wonderful service. Read a lot of reviews about this llace so I had to try it. I screenshotted the dishes i wanted to try in case there wasn't wifi available for me to see what dishes looked yummy. Lucky for us, there's wifi here! 10pts already! We tried the Fettuccine and Fungi pasta, and the Mozarella and Truffle pizza. The pasta was good, the natural flavors of the mushroom owned the dish and it was gold. The pasta is definitely different from the states...it's a lot thicker and has the grainy flavor, but overall good. If you're a truffle lover, like me, the mozarella and truffle pizza was so DELIZIOSO! I've tried many pizza in my time and Seattle's Serious Eats Mushroom pizza has been at the top for many years, until TODAY. San Francesco has made a record change and booted Serious Eats to 2nd place. I bit into my first slice of pizza and my eyes literally rolled back to my head. I shared ONE slice of pizza with my other half and No More! The pizza was only 15 euros and worth every bite. For dessert we tried the panna cotta. Italian desserts are always happy endings in my book. If I ever come back to Rome, they can guarantee that I'll be back!! Ps- our server was amazing.
