Had just about an hour or so in Lucerne and had to find somewhere to eat. This restaurant is right on the water and has outdoor seating as well as 2 floors. We had to wait for dinner to be served as it was only at a certain time. The menu was not extensive but they had a decent amount of Italian fair. The prices were a bit steep compared to what I'm used to back in America , but we were also made well aware that prices in Switzerland were higher. I got the canelloni florentina which was flavorful but over 20 so over $22 usd for a small baked dish of pasta. No salad, no bread. Again I know this is customary for Europe but it's very different from America. The biggest sticker shock was paying almost $3 for a juice glass of tap water. We took a chance on Da Ernesto, an Italian restaurant that is on the river and not far from the lake. They have a large outdoor and indoor seating area. Our choices were simple, salads and pizza's. Both the salads and pizza were better than average. The other dishes being delivered also looked nice. Da Ernesto is a safe choice for a lunch in Luzern. read more

I've been here twice now, and it's a great place to stop in Luzern. Definitely more geared towards tourists because it has a great location overlooking the river and wooden bridge, but because of its prime location, this is a great place to go. It is easy to make a reservation from their website, so I'd recommend making one in advance. The first time I ordered the bolognese and it was yummy and the second time I ordered the spicy salami pizza and that was also good. Wide selection of spritzes, beers and wines. I didn't Yelp the restaurant before sitting down, so was nervous about the meal. However I was hungry and it had a fantastic view outside. There is a large menu with options of pasta, vegetarian, meats, and pizza. I was in the mood for seafood so I ordered their special, calamari salad. Service was quick and she even checked in on me, which is unusual for Europe. The wine pour was weak for 7 CHF but I find that common in Switzerland. The dish tasted good but considering I had some amazing meals recently, it could have been better. The portion size was ok but the calamari did not taste super fresh, a little chewy bite. That's when we had some random server continually walk past us telling us we were the last ones there, and that we need to hurry up bc of the pending rain (it never rained). All the while LITERALLY EVERY OTHER RESTAURANT IN PLAIN VIEW WAS STILL SERVING THEIR GUESTS. We eventually caved to his pressure and asked our server for a check to just avoid being completely uncomfortable. We walked around Luzern for another half hour and saw multiple other patrons happily being served outside at extremely close restaurants. AGAIN AVOID AT ALL COSTS. GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE TO HAVE A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE. IT'S EXPENSIVE AND WE FELT TOTALLY RUSHED. NOT WORTH IT. Again my actual server did not do this. The Italian food here is pricey and below average. The location is great if you can get a table outside. This is the most touristy area in Lucerne so they don't have to try very hard to get business and it shows. My waiter was awful. The bill could have been three times what is was if he was attentive with our drinks, but we were mostly ignored and everything took 5 times as long as needed. I was under the impression that the wait staff in Switzerland is on salary and doesn't work for tips, so I kind of get it. But then the guy had the gall to ask for a tip on the credit card machine. Hey buddy, "F" you, I hope your manager sees this. We came in, they saw us, was not greeted nor given quick attention to. Took 5 minutes for someone to come to us. No menu. Server came 10 minutes after. No table settings for the next 20 minutes as we waited for food. We ordered just one pizza monica because we were worried about how long it takes them just to attend to us. Very bad service. This is a terrible place, strongly advise to avoid this place. If I could rate it zero, I will rate it zero. Very rude owner(or staff maybe, the man who arrange seats). It is in a good location so a lots of tourists will passing by. We want to have a lunch there, the man keep yelling "wait wait wait" in a rude way, any well educated person can say "wait" in a good manner, obviously this man is not. It is a shame for Lucerne to have a place with extremely bad service like this at such a good location. Place was packed though because Lucerne is so incredibly overpriced and God-awfully expensive ($30 for a Caesar salad? Really?) - that they're the only less expensive (and not by much) option in the evening. Just being there makes you feel a bit like a criminal for being on vacation (dehydrated and wanting a glass of water in addition to wine or soda with your meal.). Not fun. We just wandered in and the view of the wooden bridge and general ambiance was great but we were also really impressed with the food.
