Very good fresh Turkish Mediterranean food, reasonably priced for Lucerne. Only thing is there's no place to sit.

I really should make it a point to try new restaurants in Lucerne, especially when the food is as…read morefantastic as it is here. The menu was difficult to understand when it came to the platters (and I speak German, so it wasn't because of that) - did it come with baba ghanoush? Can you pick a variety of what you want? Anyway, the owner was super helpful in clarifying what was what, and very patient with us as we perused the menu. I finally got the beef platter - three different ways of cooking beef - plus hummus, eggplant hummus, falafel, and salad. The salad was so refreshing, with a light tasty sauce and really nice crackers. I wasn't impressed with the falafel - I tend to like mine a little bit crispier and with more taste than the one here. The hummus was pretty good, and the eggplant hummus was absolutely amazing. The beef was good too - there were small little beef pieces, which were chewy (there was one that was TOO chewy); there was one minced beef "sausage" that was a little spiced (I thought it was great and not at all spicy, but my mom thought it was quite spicy), and another minced beef "sausage" that wasn't spiced. The meats went well with the hummus.

The owner is really the centerpiece of the place --- friendly, conversant in several languages, and happy to tell how he followed the girl of his dreams to Switzerland 30+ years ago. (The only other staff member we met has an annoying affinity for loud vacuum cleaners). Rolling in post-hike on a Saturday, the owner mentioned he was out of several fillings; in particular, the eggplant-and-peppers Betenjan that grabbed my eye first wasn't available. That turned out to be fine, as the standards he did have were excellent. Our group ended up with a mix of lamb Shish Kebab, veggie Falafel, and simple Hummus. All were heavily laden with extras --- veggies, lettuce, a sweet chutney that nicely complemented the main flavors, and hot sauce to order. The hummus and falafel options are variations on a theme --- either a large scoop of hummus and two falafel balls, or 6+ falafel balls and a small dollop of hummus. The lamb in the shish kebab is in large, tender chunks, and nicely roasted. The bread is much more substantial than many pitas --- more of a crusty roll, but so filled with goodies that the ratios are still right. Drinks are fairly standard --- a few beers and sodas, boxed Ayran yogurt drink, and a giant urn of oddly spiced tea by the glass. Definitely a must-eat for a day around Solothurn.

This place seems to be very popular with locals. We came for a very early dinner (around 4:30) and…read moresaw that most of the tables had reservation cards, so it was likely fully booked for the evening. We had the Tajine Kefta with fries and a small Mezze plate with Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Falafel, and Taboulé. The Kefta was moist with a loose texture. It was a little bit spicy and had generous amount of tomato sauce. The hummus and falafel were the weaker of the two mezze items. The hummus is a bit chunky (not super smooth or fluffy). The falafel came with Tzaziki (super creamy and very garlicy). They had good texture, but not super crunchy and crispy on the outside. The Baba Ganoush was really flavorful, deep, fresh, with good texture (smooth with some chunks of eggplant). The taboule was also really fresh tasting and moist. The service here was also notably great. Servers were super helpful and kind. Their bathroom was also quite nice.

I had the Kafka dish, basically lacking in spices and really with a tomato sauce would have been something a college student could have made for ten dollars for four people! My wife ordered vegetable couscous. Couscous( dry) with some sticks of carrots and zucchini. Keep in mind, we have to pay $34 CDN for EACH of these meals. If it wasn't for the beer and the feel to the place....1/2 a star would have been it. Ps. The bar was busy! Yes. I've downgraded to one star. The important part. My Kafka dish was not made fresh or had been sitting so long that it started to have the fat congeal. When I took the fancy cover off my dish when it arrived...a skin had formed over the whole dish and the edges had solid fat forming.
