The food is divine! The place is small, cozy and with an excellent atmosphere! The service is impeccable. Besides the food, you must also taste the local beer.

Not that much variety of chicken, specially for children. Menu is original in the form and presentation. Decor is not that soul either. See what 23 CHF will get you. Owner is very rude even in the presence of children. Beware.

Been on the road more than four weeks now, and I couldn't face another pizza, pasta, schnitzel, or sausage. Soul Chicken saved me, and it will save you. Trust me, the Chicken is perfectly cooked, crispy, juicy and the garlic dipping sauce is out of this world. Five Stars, it should be Eight!

This is not your "Kentucky Fried" or even your rotisserie style chicken. It is not oily, and has a slight crispy thin coating to it. The chicken tastes lean, clean, and fresh-unlike fatty steroid chicken in the United States. The Soul sauce is somewhat like melted butter with some salt (and with or without garlic) and maybe something else subtle that I can't quite place. You can dip the chicken or the bread in the sauce. This location is off the beaten path, and has a cool funky vibe to it. It's not crowded like some of the other touristy places, so I found it nice to be able to sit and relax. Do NOT think about substitutions here. They clearly state it in the menu. Visit the bathroom, it's clean, and quite the experience! My rating is 3.5 stars!

This place is a must try when in Luzern. It's an off-beat, very old soul kinda restaurant where jazz music and simple yet the tastiest food warms your soul. This is not for someone who likes to fine dine. Soul Chicken is for people who love intimate places and feel at home places to eat. The entire restaurant wall is full of antique pictures and coo coo clocks we had back in the day! We ordered the 1/2 chicken wings, fries and salad!! The salad dressing was amazing!! The sauce that comes with the chicken is delicious, garlic goodness !! BUT the star is the Chili Paste.. HOLY CRAP!! I ordered a second bowl!! The owner is a happy soul who makes you feel at home!! The food and the people around touches your soul! You will leave with much more happiness than you entered with.

Only a few nights in Luzern yet had to visit this spot as I trust yelp pals. Was not disappointed. Before I start be warned this may not be for you. If you are from the lower 48 & if you're a foodie and in the states enjoy Capital Grille Morton's McCormick & Schmick stay away. Plenty of other places nearby for you. However if you enjoy diners, drive ins & the off beaten path, plus you like jazz or Bossa music or you watch antique roadshow or if you are ever called 'an old soul' you've found a home here. On first blush it appears simple: a nice collection of eclectic interior items with old pictures & antique lights. More like my aunt Bertha's kitchen. Only 6-8 tables not a large place. We expected to wait & were willing. The menu is chicken. That's it don't expect more. Oh you get a choice: legs, wings or a half chicken. Flash fried, very crisp, hot, not greasy. Sauce is served & available without garlic- not much sauce but enough & quite a treat. Yes dip your bread. What you don't expect, although this chicken is enough is the Soul you get at no extra charge. Anna the waitress serves with a smile. I pretended to speak German but she figured it out fairly quickly & provided both menus. We miss the standard water we expect in the states, yet the wine complemented the chicken. Yasar, the owner brings his heart & joy to every plate. His soul permeates the experience. I was wrong & suspected Soul Chicken was a tribute or play on our Dixie style joints. No, the soul is what you bring to the table to appreciate this delicious meal. I will say again this may not be for you, don't put a square peg in a round hole. For me & mine we love this place. It would thrive anywhere. We may likely not get back to Luzern, yet if we do, we will have chicken with soul!

To be honest, i'm extremely confused by the five star reviews across the board here on Yelp. The food here is not worthy of 5 stars, not even close. I'm going to have to tell you that, to start, I freaking love fried chicken. So imagine my excitement when I scroll through restaurants in Lucerne and found a place that is 4.5 star rated and only serves fried chicken! I was lazying around in bed all the way in Gisikon-Root and as soon as I saw the listing, I jumped out of bed, txted my bf at work to tell him that's where i'm headin and he can meet me there, or not, i'm eating lunch there anyway, and then beelined straight to the train station. The restaurant is on a small street towards the end of the small and beautiful city center. The restaurant is strangely decorated and plays, you guessed, it, 70s soul music through and through. The owner felt like a sleazy businessmen who run a small business like those you meet everywhere in Rome and wants to rip tourists off. He didn't turn out to be that terrible when I refused his bottled water, he eventually gave me some tap water towards the end of my meal. Besides himself, an Indian-looking guy in the somewhat open kitchen deep fries all the chicken and fries. For 18 FR I got a basket of chicken wings, fries, some bread, and some garlic butter. I asked if I can switch fries to salad, he said no. The chicken had no breading, and no flavour. The garlic butter made everything slightly palatable. I did not finish my wings or my fries. It wasn't that good. I realized half way through my gnawing that this place might be cash-only, given the two-men set-up and French working hours (opened from 11:30am to 2pm, and then for dinner at like 7pm or something). I was right. I asked him if I can pay in EUR and he said okay, and then looked at me strangely, as though afraid he might offend me, and told me his exchange rate is 1:1. I chuckled a little in my head knowing he probably didn't know the exchange rate is no longer in favour of the EUR, so I happily said yes and paid with EUR. If this wasn't a mom-and-pop shop, and the owner wasn't so nice, I probably would have given this place 2 stars. It certainly is not the best chicken in the world, but maybe the most soulful...

What an incredible find! We have been in Europe for three weeks and this seriously was the best meal! The falafel salad was amazing but the absolute best is the hot bread and garlic sauce! Don't miss this place!

Thank god for Yelp! This is a legit hole in the wall and we would've never stepped foot in otherwise, so glad we did! The decor and atmosphere is really cozy and you feel like you're taking on another country. I don't think this is Swiss food, but still way worth the try! We pretty much had one of everything. I've been finding it hard to in take greens while in Switzerland so try to order a side salad any chance I get, I HIGHLY recommend it here.. It's nothing too special but absolutely delicious (not sure how that works out but it does!). The chicken is really good -- crispy on the outside, SUPER HOT (so be careful!) and juicy on the inside. I also found it on the saltier side, but I was dipping every bite into their FREAKING AMAZING soul sauce (garlic butter aka liquid gold). They also have fresh baked sesame bread that comes out warm and toasty, which every bite was also be dunked into the sauce. Not kidding, I'm probably going to be dreaming of this sauce until the day I die. If I had another day in Luzern, I would seriously go back just for the salad, bread, and sauce (clearly). Totally, totally recommend this place!

Went here for dinner based on all the rave reviews. We walked in and were seated promptly and ordered chicken wings and chicken legs. He provided bread and the special sauce. The sauce was delicious, however we sat there for maybe 20-30 minutes before the waiter realized we didn't get our food yet and finished all our bread. He then realized that the cook forgot to start preparing our meal and offered us more bread. We finally got our food and the chicken was pretty good and goes well with the sauce but was pretty expensive for what it's worth. Note: no sharing and no utensils. Cash only

Just try if u r in Luzern. Reasonable price, friendly staff, Amazing taste, and their special sauce. I was satisfied much more than the restaurants, price over 30 Fr.

We were pleasantly stuffed! Best meal I had in Switzerland in the middle of summer! Decor is kind of out dated but the views this restaurant provides can't be beat. It's a bit of a drive out of Lucerne but it's well worth it. I also met the owner of the restaurant. The staff was very friendly, one of my friends had a food allergy and they had no issues whatsoever adjusting his sandwich accordingly. I got the chicken sandwich, their staple sandwich and I was a big fan. Would recommend getting the twiny sauce and the garlic sauce as well. Was quite a flavorful sandwich and the staff even added extra pickles after I joked it. The bread is nice and crispy and the chicken came out hot. My friends loved their salami sandwich. I would note that the sandwiches can be a bit messy, we had a few bread crumbs and pieces of lettuce fall out while eating and the sauce does start to drip. We ended up coming back for more sandwiches later in our trip as our go to quick eat spot that is inexpensive.
