Great spot for an Asian meal fix! There's a variety of southeast Asian options, though the food really leaned heavily towards Thai (vs Viet). The staff is very kind and the restaurant was packed the entire time we were there - clear favorite amongst locals and tourists! Food was ok. Not the traditional pho you'd expect, but not bad. The curry was good and papaya salad fresh. Crispy duck was ok though not quite crispy enough and not enough sauce. Definitely recommend, whether you go for take away or dine in. Kind of tucked away in a side street and we almost passed by it. But it was raining and my family wanted a more affordable option for dinner so we luckily came across this place. It is a small place with limited seating, so takeaway may be your best bet. You order at the counter first, and if dining in, then seat yourself and pay after. It was near closing time and many items were low in the counter. The restaurant was packed when we came and we had to wait for some space to open up. But it was worth it! The menu is mostly Thai food but we all got pho. It came with meatballs and steak. The broth was unlike any other pho I've had before. I am used to more plain, simple beef broth but this one was much more flavorful. It was clear that they added roasted garlic and cilantro, among other things. They also already include the sides (like beansprouts) in the soup. The pho was different but I enjoyed it very much. The fried eggrolls were also good. They were giant and had beef inside. We were in Luzern looking for a relatively affordable dinner, and found Khoua Vientiane through TripAdvisor. Glad we did! My partner and I ordered a pad Thai with tofu and a Penang curry with tofu. Both were pretty good - not the best Thai food I've ever had, but decent, and a nice change from the cheese-and-bread heavy meals we'd been eating in Switzerland the few days previously. If you're vegetarian, this is definitely a good spot to check out. For reference, our meal was 35 chf. A few more notes: this restaurant is tucked away on a quiet back street behind a hotel. When you enter, if you want to eat there, grab one of the menus from the counter and order directly there. The owners and servers speak good English. We also saw lots of people ordering the pre-made food - it looked like you could get a plate with rice and maybe two scoops of whatever they had available that day (various curries, sautéed meat/veggies, etc). You could eat that plate there or get it to go, and I assume it was cheaper than ordering off the main menu. read more

It may not look too remarkable from the outside, but Khoua Vientiane could very well be one of the best Asian restaurants you'll ever visit. Located right behind one of the fancy expensive Asian restaurants in Lucerne, you'll get food that is at least as good for a fraction of the price. The kitchen is Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian, and the selection pretty wide. From pho to fried noodles, most dishes I've ever had here I never found better anywhere else. But my favourite has to be the Tom Kha Gai, which is simply heaven in a bowl. Service is as friendly as can be, and also quick if you don't show up just within the worst of lunchtime rush hour. There's seating for about 20 people inside, and they offer take out. Just remember that payment is cash only, as is the case with many of the really good places in Switzerland =) I've been coming to this place as regularly as I can for almost 20 years now, and my love for it hasn't waned =) as a visitor to Lucerne, the lack of trendy hipster places like those Zurich is swamped with can make it feel like there are no interesting, great restaurants to discover. But it does have its hidden gems and have-to-go places, and this is definitely one of them! read more

All the traditional stuff, soups, hot curry, and of course it doesn't hurt that Heineken drafts are only 4 CHF. truth Their takeaway is great, good portions, whatever your language is, they probably speak it, and prices are very reasonable for Luzern (which is quite a spendy locale) This place is clutch in so many ways. Stellar food! My wife and I ordered two entrees and a beer for the price of a single dish as most restaurants in this town. We highly recommend the red chicken curry and pad thai. Both were plates had plenty of food on them to leave both of us nearly stuffed after starving ourselves all day. The only downfall for the place is that when we tried to visit it the following day, a Sunday, google said it was closed. The staff was very friendly and offered fast service.
