Ate there a couple of weeks ago. Very good food, but it's a very "live" room so the sound level is too high for private conversation.

Ate here three times. Was in good mood all three times because I was driving through Litchfield in fall. Once for Saturday dinner before concert and twice for late lunch after walking in local parks. This place gives you a nice fall feel. Food was very good each time. Antipasta amazing! The service was fast each time. My only complaint is that in the lunchtime hours in the fall both years they were leaving door open to outside too much and both times remember flies inside the building. read more

What a great place! I took my wife here for her birthday. It was hopping with guests chatting and people sharing meals. Our dinner was perfect. My prime rib was not fatty or over salted. It was delightful with potatoes and al dente string beans. My wife loved her salmon dish even after she consumed a large bowl of steamy mussels with fabulous spicy red sauce. We shared creme brullee for dessert with the last of our wine. We cannot wait to go back to endulge in another scrumptous meal with incrediable service. read more

We have been going to daCapo since the restaurant opened perhaps 5-6 years ago. It is one of our favorite places to eat in the area. There is a really nice variety of dishes, many with an Italian flair. The da Capo chips are a great way to start a meal and the portion is large, plenty to share with 4 people. Get them extra crispy, they are even better. The food is always consistent. I can say that I have not had a bad meal here and we go there almost every week. The bolognese is one of the best you will have. The fish stew Cacciucco is a seafood lovers treat. Just be careful not to eat too many of the home made rolls while soaking up the savory broth. They usually have a couples of specials which are a nice addition to the diverse menu. They only have 4 deserts (inspired by a top notch NY City desert chef) but 3 of them are to die for. The mousse cake, creme brûlée and tiramisu are some of the best you can find in the area. The cannoli are OK but I'm not a cannoli fan so it could just be me. You will read other comments about the noise and it is a bit noisy but that's because it is full with patrons enjoying a nice dinner with friends. Summer dining on the deck is also very nice but it can be tough to get a table because it is a popular place to sit and enjoy the manicured gardens. Yes there is new management but the food and wait staff are just the same. Give da Capo a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Simply delicious. Every. Single. Time. We keep coming back, year after year. Their salad with white balsamic vinaigrette dressing is something we drive miles for. Our kids love their pizza and their chicken park. Family style makes it affordable but the food is what keeps us coming back. Great service is an added bonus! read more

I've been coming here for years and years, probably starting around when they opened. It definitely used to be a 5-star establishment, with the old ownership - they were known for their hugeeeee portions (by huge, I mean heaping piles of pasta and seafood and salad, that would feed my family of four another night as leftovers). Their bread rolls are to die for, btw, and I'm glad those haven't changed. But they did switch to a new owner some years back, and it just hasn't been the same ever since. Servers we knew and loved left, and portions were slightly downsized. The latter wouldn't have been that bad, except that they simultaneously raised the prices on most things, so we really felt cheated out of what we used to get. Now, the frutti di mare is 62$ for a family size portion, which is still huge, but I remember when it was bigger for 48$. The food still tastes the same, and portions are still very generous, but I think we all wish that they hadn't raised the prices. Also, fyi it gets super loud when crowded. read more

Great food, and great people at Da Capo's. My wife and I had just finished two excellent dinners, when my wife received a [not expected] call that her sister had passed away. We asked the DaCapo's staff to hurry with the bill, and told them why. They just waved us on and said "Go - the meal's on us". The kindness was very much felt in the moment, and ever since. Um. My husband and I came to have a nice Italian meal, but it seemed that they were really skimping on quality ingredients. The caprese salad was made with mealy colorless tomatoes and mediocre cheese at best. Pasta entree was not bad, but the service was really slow. read more

Worst experience ever. There was 6 of us celebrating a birthday , we were sitting outside and racked up a bill of $120 so far. The waitress kept asking if we wanted our bill, we said no we would like another round of drinks and a menu but the waitress would walk away then come back and ask if we wanted our bill. Apparently someone else wanted to use our table so we were kicked out. The manager blamed it on the server saying they have a problem with that server. Manager wouldn't take responsibility for the server. I run a hotel I know when my front desk does something bad that it is a reflection on me and I take ownership . Worst manager ever. Da Capo's has the best chips and calamari ever! I come from California just for the food.It is truly worth the trip.

An extra star because the food IS good. If this review was based on take-out, it would get a 4 or 5, but in my opinion, going out to eat is just as much about the experience as the food. If you're looking for a quick review, here's a few sentence: Food is good, wait staff is terrible (worst I have ever experienced, EVER, including Friendly's, ihop, 99, you name it..) atmosphere is super loud; if anyone in your party is hard of hearing or even might be, this is NOT the place for you. There are no booths, only tables, lending to the open, deafening tone of the restaurant. The only person who ever smiles, EVER, is the older man who makes the pizzas. The waitstaff is constantly upset, sweating, and in a hurry. We have been here between ten and twenty times. The majority of the times in the beginning when they opened- we loved the salads and pizza! The service started getting slow, rude, and our orders would be wrong (the waitress might forget the salad and bring us the pizza. When we said that we ordered salad and had hoped for that first she would bring it over AFTER the pizza, not apologize, and still charge us. ummmm.....bad). We stopped going. in 2013 we went twice. Both times were AWFUL. Actually awful. The first time, the service was so slow that we started to get uncomfortable asking for the check for the third time. The second time, we sat at a table for 20min. without a waitress. We flagged down a man who was serving water and he had a disheveled waitress come to our table and say, "What can I do for you?" Ummm. I dunno. A drink, maybe? We ordered drinks, waited another good ten minutes (it might have even been twenty; i'm not sure). My husband was so fed up that we walked out. As we got to the door, the waitress saw us and said "Your drinks are coming right up." Think again, lady. If we want thin crust pizza, we head up the hill to PIzzeria Marzano. The pizza is better and the young family who runs the place is thankful for the business and show it. read more

Having dined here on two occasions I must say this is a special place. While the decor and setting are average the food and service is outstanding. Bernard out waiter both times was a true pro, and the food each time was prepared with thought and pride. As a professional chef myself I take notice to quality and passion. As insane as it sounds we went here on Mother's Day without a reservation. We thought we'd take our chances for real, homemade food. Expecting to be shown the door with our tails between our legs, but to our surprise were greeted warmly and seated right away. It may have helped that it was just the two of us, but we couldn't believe it considering how packed it was. We were waited on promptly and pleasantly. Drinks served and orders placed swiftly, the food was delivered as soon as possible and it was hot and delicious. We were checked on by the waitress and the owner, despite how busy they were. The chicken Marsala was perfectly cooked with a generous portion including spinach, mushrooms and a nice side of real mashed potatoes. Hubby had a huge burger which was perfectly medium rare with a pile of hand cut crispy fries. Thank you for helping to make a wonderful Mother's Day for me. read more

Went there last night for my wifes birthday. Ordered the fish stew. Should be called calamari and mussel stew. There are no humongous shrimp ( actually got 3 ) and are about a 20-25 to pound quality. wanted the stew for the haddock and realized that the fish were the small shreds on the bottom. However if you like calamari you can have one in every bite. so disappointed that the description didnt match the meal. portion was good but mostly for 90% calamari.If the description matched the meal, then the high price would have been acceptable, but was over priced for calamari stew. read more

Just back from a wonderful meal at Da Capo. I'd heard good things from friends so my wife and I decided to try it, and were not disappointed. A great Californian sauvigon blanc at $7 got me off a promising start, and our server Miguel was totally on the ball which kept my good mood going. Mussels were awesome, one house salad was enough for us both, which Miguel said it would me, and the seafood risotto was tasty. I'm not an easy sell with restaurants I haven't already gotten to know and like, but Da Capo made it easy to feel like a regular, which I will be from now on. read more

There should be another $ up there - we expect to pay more for services in Litchfield, but our bill was exactly this: 2 appetizers 1 kids meal 1 pasta special 1 small white pizza and the bill was $155 ... no alcohol, actually we drank water so no beverages at all. Apps were good but so small my husband was joking about eating the garnish. The kids meal was good for my kid, pasta with butter. The pasta special was fettucine carbonara, which was good. The white pizza had so much garlic on it we could not eat it, took it home and added tomatoes to cut the garlic, but still no good. Our waitress was nice. Walking in and out of the place we had to plow through a gathering of all the wait staff and bus staff who were not yet assigned to a table, hanging out at the hostess podium, tacky. Which was weird because the parking lot was chock-full yet there were no patrons really except 3/4 other tables. The review above is for the Litchfield location only, the Avon location is completely different feel and frankly the food was much better! read more

Da Capo was the best dining experience I have had in a long long time. My wife and I went on New Year's Day for a romantic dinner. The staff was amazing, the food was out of this world. I ordered the Risotto Scallop and Shrimp, my wife ordered the Penne Al Forno. The food was delicious and the presentation really made the meal special. I found my new FAVORITE restaurant! read more

Really disappointing. Service staff were inattentive. Our waitress was really bad. Portions have definitely been reduced in size since March 2015 (last visit). "Blackened" Chicken was "rubbery" and bland. We won't go there again. read more

My husband and I were in the Litchfield area last week so we decided to try Da Capo after having heard so many glowing reviews from various friends and acquaintances. The restaurant itself is quite lovely - nicely decorated for the Fall season. Just outside a bank of windows at the back of the restaurant is a very nice deck surrounded by a beautiful garden. We were seated by a very personable hostess to a location of our choice, which happened to be in front of a window looking out at the garden. Therein was the best part of our visit as our meal was a great disappointment. We both had the pasta e fagioli - I had the bowl & my husband had the cup, and other than the size of the serving vessel, I really could not tell the difference in the quantity of the soup. The soup was decent tasting, but a big salty and lukewarm at best. It also was pretty lacking of beans and pasta. For my main course I had the Caprese Salad which was just average. I've had better mozzarella and the tomatoes were pretty bland. Not much was done to enhance the dish - not much olive oil, no fresh basil or fresh ground pepper. My husband ordered the seafood risotto. That was the biggest disappointment of all since it did not remotely resemble what we know as risotto. First of all the rice was not arborio or carnarolli - it was regular rice. It was in some kind of a brownish sauce which bore no similarity to the creamy, cheesy texture we are accustomed to. The scallops had a kind of teriyaki type coating on them which definitely is incongruous with risotto - it actually tasted bad!! If I had been served that dish I would have sent it right back whereas my husband kind of picked through the seafood and left the poor tasting rice behind. The only decent part of the meal were the rolls and olive oil. Perhaps we hit an off night, but any Italian restaurant that serves such a poor excuse for risotto leaves an awful lot to be desired. Needless to say I cannot give this restaurant more than two stars - one for the lovely garden and one for the rolls. read more

I am not usually the type to write yelp reviews or any reviews for that matter. However after reading about DaCapo this morning in the Republican American, my husband and I decided to give it another try. Several years ago it had fallen into disrepair, the place just wasn't the same, the food was off, and the service was laughable. We came with an open mind. Our server Brenda was polite, quick, and very funny. Immediately we felt at ease. We shared several dishes. To start we had the Dacapo Chips which were incredible! A very healthy serving of fried Zuchini and Eggplant and the yogurt dip was to die for! As well as the Calamari which was the best I've had in a long time. I loved the bits of pepperoncini they add to the mix! Next we shared a Parma Pizza and Penne ala Vodka. I'm a major Penne Vodka girl and this was probably the best I've had outside of NYC. My husband ordered a side of Meatballs which were gigantic, tender, and well seasoned. The red sauce was perfect. We are self admitted wine snobs and were completely shocked by the extensive wine list for a family style restaurant. We were delighted. I had my normal Sauvignon Blanc ( New Zealand only) and hubby had the Montelpuciano D' Abruzzo. The manager came over to check if everything was alright. And offered us a slice of Chocolate mousse cake on the house. I don't know if it's a standard practice here but we were not complaining. It was rich creamy and decadent as mousse should be. The best part was we had plenty of left overs to bring home for a late night snack and our bill was.......$84.87 Are you kidding me???? This place has really made a come back! We are planning to book reservations for Easter Brunch. Can't wait for my family to enjoy this. read more
