I came across D Salon, and read up reviews about one particular hair stylist named Marienette (Mnette) who has a reputation of being a wonderful person to go to get an ombré done (or any coloring for that matter). I went in for a consultation with Mnette and she gave me the estimate prices as well as additional recommendations to keep my hair healthy. My black long hair was getting dull and lifeless, so I checked out Yelp and found Marienette at D Salon. I went in for a consultation. She was very nice, knowledgeable, and didn't push for any expensive treatments. At the end, I decided to go for a subtle balayage, olaplex (deep hair protein conditioning), and layering. Mnette took great care of my hair, spent a lot of time to work on my "Cousin It", and did a beautiful subtle trim and layering. I wasn't quite sure I wanted my hair this light color before, but Mnette really did a fantastic job. The Olaplex helped the hair look much healthier (it's an expensive treatment, but my hair really needed t). What I also truly appreciate is that Mnette listened to my request to keep the length and just did layering. I went to so many salons before, where a few inches always turned into chopping 5-7 inches off. Everything turned out beautifully. THANK YOU MNETTE FOR SAVING MY HAIR! After my god-awful experience at Unique Salon, I came here nearly in tears to ask for a second opinion on it and what I should do about it. Mnette and Andrea assessed the damage and said that it was bad, but it was fixable. They both said to sleep on it, mess around with it, and see how I felt about it the day after. My hair was still disgusting a day later, so I sent Marienette a text to book an appointment. It took a little while for her to reply, but she was apologetic and still very professional. I came in for my appointment a few days later and Mnette hooked me up with a complimentary deep conditioning treatment to smooth out the snaggly ends, and I got a full wash, cut, and style ($65). Mnette gave me a subtle a-line to help even out the layers, and to get rid of some damaged hair. After styling and straightening out the side that was wrecked so badly before, my hair was pretty cute! She turned my unwanted bangs into a cute side sweep and blended out the choppy layers. What I really appreciated is that Mnette was REALLY listening to what I wanted and tried to work as best with my wants as possible. She made sure to ask for permission before cutting risky parts of my hair, like my bangs. Everyone who helped me out made sure I was comfortable, hydrated, and cool in the 100 degree heat. They even gave me the Wifi so I could watch Netflix while getting my hair dried lol! I was MUCH happier with the way it turned out, and it was a lot closer to my vision of Emma Stone/Aubrey Plaza lob greatness than my previous cut. It's growing out pretty nicely right now, and I can't wait to see how the cut looks once my hair grows out more! The only negative thing I could say is that it is expensive, especially for a college student with little disposable income and no job at the time. Although D Salon has given me one of the priciest haircuts I've ever gotten, the quality and care you receive is worth it IMO. This was my first time getting my hair done by Marienette and overall I had an amazing experience! My sister has been going to her for the past year and a half now, so I knew I could trust her with my hair. I was also fortunate that she was willing to schedule me in with my sister which was very convenient. One minor thing that came up was that our appointment was pushed back 30mins, however she texted us in advance to let us know that she was running a little late. Regardless, i really appreciate how she really cares for her clients and takes the time to perfect their hair! Marienette and her assistant Violet were super friendly and easy to talk to which made my experience more enjoyable. I showed her a couple of ideas that I wanted and it's as if she read my mind. I've been apprehensive about getting my hair colored again not only because of my last experience, but because I'm currently 7 months pregnant. I decided to check out this new salon yesterday. The Grand Opening was on June 29, 2013 and it currently has a promotion going thru July "With ANY Color Service receive: Free Hair Cut & Raffle Ticket for a UNITE Flat Iron (value of $160)." I did receive a free cut with my color, but no raffle ticket. Instead I received a sample size UNITE 7Seconds Condition, which is a Leave In Detangler. I walked in with no appointment, but I was able to get helped right away even though it was pretty busy. I later found out that the owner himself was the one that greeted me even though he was working on a client. At first glance the salon is minimalist. It has cool aqua green flooring and everything else is pretty much white. I liked it because it wasn't cluttered and had a relaxing vibe about it despite all the people :) NatLee was my Stylist. She later told me it was the owner, Duvon's, 2nd salon in Riverside. NatLee listened to what I wanted, looked at my pictures as a point of reference and provided a thorough consultation. We would chat off and on, but I could tell she was focused on what she was doing, which made me feel like she cares about her work. I was very pleased with the end result! When she got to the haircut she asked how much I wanted off and she actually just cut that much. Other haircuts I've gotten I end up losing more than I ask for, but after it's cut there's nothing you can do. Lastly, she also did a great blow dry at the end. I've had other stylists kinda blow out my long hair, but she took her time and it looked like a proper blow dry is supposed to look like. So Celina pretty much saved my life. Lol Basically I walked in with a train wreck. I had had my hair bleach (the process was done twice to get it light though) went from dark brown ombre to this mostly blonde but still orange color. The roots (my natural hair that had grown out) were a different color than the rest of it, and there were strands that were over processed and pieces that were under processed and were orange. So long story short, I had three different colors going on and looked like a CLOWN. I walked in on a Tuesday evening and met with Celina. She was very sweet and was not judgmental at all. She didn't give me a hard time about the color or condition of my hair, and most importantly she did not freak out when she saw the disaster on my head lol Celina was very professional and listened to my concerns. She was booked out for the next 2 hours so I came back after a couple hours and she squeezed me in after she finished with all of her clients (thank you!!). So she basically stayed late and worked an extra 3 hours that night just to fix my hair for me. Super sweet! Most hairstylists would tell you to come back tomorrow or make an appointment. Anyway, she did a bleach wash to light the orange strand and then toned me with an ashy toner and did a deep conditioning treatment and gave me a good much needed haircut. I'm so happy with the results!!! With Celina's help and professionalism I was able to stay blonde and have it look nice! She fixed my crazy hair and made me look normal again. I will be going to see Celina every 4 weeks or so for a conditioning treatment and toner so it stays nice and blonde. I highly recommend Celina!! I paid well over $300 for a "balayage" in July. Stylist was very kind and sweet, and she even took me back in the following week for a touch up appointment, but I'm still super disappointed with the end result. My balayage just looks like a few highlights, and they're unevenly toned (she started in the back and left those ones in the entire time, vs in the front the bleach was only in my hair for about 20 mins instead of HOURS), so I've got TACKY bleach blonde pieces of hair sticking out on the back of my head. The overall difference was so minimal that NO ONE noticed a difference in my hair without me mentioning it, with the exception of one person saying "did you get highlights?" Yeah, $350 highlights that are ugly and so not what I asked for. Unfortunately I'm still on the lookout for a stylist in this area so lmk if you know of anyone. Good intentions and hard work, but poor results unfortunately. I have curly hair and it just does not look good unless I'm using heat to style it the exact way the stylist did before I left. read more

I messaged Marienette a week before my consultation/appointment with my hair type and what I wanted. Throughout the whole process, she was so nice to reply to all my questions (price, how it's done, services, etc) so I knew I could trust her with my hair. I've had "professionals" do my bleaching before, and it ended quite terribly so I was sure to do a lot of research this time and ended up at the D Salon. Marienette and her assistant Violet were super kind, clear, and straightforward on what they could/would do to my hair. I originally came in for a full grey head of hair, but after my consultation it was clear that due to having very dark, natural hair that it would be best to go for either a dark grey balayage or an ash brown balayage. With their advice, and my personal taste, I went with the brown. It took a whole six hours of individually lightening, wrapping, toning, washing, and trimming for Marienette and Violet to finish my hair, but the results are pretty miraculous. I've never felt so happy about my appearance before, and their positive attitudes and honest opinions really made my salon experience one of the best. My one tiny qualm is that the AC isn't super strong during the hottest hours, but both of them blasted me with individual fans just so I could be more comfortable. When my 84 year old mother wanted her hair colored, I took her to D salon about 2 months ago because the place was about 10 min from my house and the reviews on Yelp were positive. I left my mom at the salon with her caregiver. My mom is a retired physician who now sadly suffers from dementia so she needs almost round the clock assistance. Mom was assigned to Andrea whom I chatted with briefly before leaving. I returned in about 2 hours when the caregiver notified that the coloring was finished. As far as I could tell the hair coloring looked great and mom seemed pleased. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of it. According to the caregiver, Andrea was put off by my mom complaining that water was running down her neck and then down her back. Andrea suggested in the future, mom get her hair colored at the salon but do the rinsing at home. I'm not claiming to be an expert at this but if water is running down the neck of a customer during a shampoo, it seems that's the fault of the person doing the shampoo. So this review is getting less than 5 stars because despite her condition, is unfairly being treated as if she had unreasonable complaints. read more

I got my hair done by Mnette today & her assistant. I couldn't be anymore happier. I understand that it's a process to get my hair where I want my hair going from black box dyed hair to a balayage. But after today's visit, I took a big step forward to where I want to be. I honestly can't wait for my hair to grow out just so I can go back to her and get it lighter. Process: After telling her how I wanted my hair, she immediately started working on my hair. She also broke down pricing before my visit & as she was doing my hair. So it wasn't a surprise when I went to pay. Mnette does work on multiple people at one time, however she doesn't forget about you and leave you unattended. She constantly was checking my hair & how I was doing. she gave me updates frequently on how my hair was processing. Also, constantly asked if I needed anything water, coffee, Etc. She actually was sweet enough to get me bfast from Starbucks. So sweet. Cut: I told Mnette that I was worried about taking too much off the length. She completely understood and took off only what was necessary from previous hair damage. She said she would take only an inch off & that's exactly what she did. My hair still has the length that I wanted. Also, feels amazing after the olaplex treatment. Doesn't feel like I even lightened it. She styled my hair & gave me the best curls. I went in for a trim and added more layers to my long hair, with April. She was AMAZING! She was very gentle when washing my hair, and gave a nice little massage while washing it (IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!) What I really liked about April was that when she was trimming my hair, she constantly checked in with me about how much length she should cut off BEFORE chopping it off. She constantly asked me if I liked my hair, or if I needed more layers. I think that constant communication and reassuring with the customer before cutting is important, and that's exactly what she did. On top of that, she has great conversations and is sweet. I had my hair done this past Wednesday and I am so happy with the outcome. I had sent Marienette a picture of what I wanted, a week before, and when I showed up to my appointment we went over what what she would be doing. She explained everything from what color my hair would turn out, since it's dark, to what type of cut I should get since my hair is thick. Overall I had an incredible experience from start to finish and will definitely be coming back in the future. Since 2011 I have trusted my hair with Nina at this salon. Honestly, the fact that there are so few reviews about her is odd to me. I didn't know how dissatisfied I was with my hair until she started working her magic to make it what it is today! I originally found the salon from a Facebook friend. I thought the stylist the friend was praising, who doesn't work here anymore, was far too intimidating for my plain Jane look. So I checked out the other staff members and found Nina! As a person, she exudes kindness. There is a level of honesty and care that she provides to her clients that is needed to get the best results. Even to the extend of checking in with you a week after the appointment to make sure everything is fine. Until I met Nina I didn't understand how people could be so connected with a person that they would see every few months. It's one thing to love a hairstylist, it's a whole new level of trust to refer a friend. Well, not an issue for me at all. I have referred my Mother, who has gained a whole new level of confidence since she has been getting her hair done. Although she travels 6-9 months out of the year, only has Nina cut and color her hair. My sister and niece, who have 3x the amount of wavy and thick hair of a normal human being only see Nina. In other word, I have absolutely no hesitation referring Nina to any and everyone. I have thick hair that grows super fast but lack volume or natural waves. For the majority of the time I have been going to Nina I have stuck with a natural blonde look because of my profession, and she always makes it look amazing. Since I live in another state for the majority of my year Nina creates natural looks that can grow out and still look good over time. This past year however I got bit with the color bug. Since January of this year I have colored my hair 6 different colors ranging from a tint of pink, rose gold, magenta, apricot/peach, and my most recent fuchsia creation. Despite all the colors my hair has never been this healthy. Not only does she take time to create masterpieces of cuts and colors, she makes sure your hair stays healthy. I can't say that for some of my past hairstylists. It's also a big plus that she's genuinely a sweetheart. I feel comfortable talking to her. Which for me is a necessity, especially when you're sitting in the chair for some hours.
