5 stars! It was our first visit. The food was excellent, the service was great. We're both low carbohydrate, animal based eaters so my elderly mother went with a light selection, one pound of chicken wings (with the house dry rub) from the appetizer menu. The wings were great. And I opted for the beef brisket meal from the entree menu. The brisket was off-the-hook great! LOW CARB: It was a little tricky eating low carbohydrate carnivore style at D's. They make you order 2 sides with the meals. And unfortunately, all of the sides are plant based. I opted for as low starch & as low sugar as possible so I selected the "Veggie of the Day" (fried Brussel Sprouts) and the Ciao Ciao (a style of pickled slaw). Both sides had great taste. But I definitely would have opted out of the plant products if I was given the choice to order meats a la carte. I ate all of the Ciao Ciao, but I just picked at the Brussel Sprouts and threw most of them away. The service was great, I couldn't have asked for anything better. We opted to sit at a high top table in the bar area so we were served by the bartender. Despite being busy as hell AND PREGNANT, the bartender kicked ass and dished out excellent service. She never stopped moving and hustling and smiling. Very impressive!!! My only gripe...and it's a minor one...is that D's doesn't sell meat by the pound or a la carte. Our server was a young high school or college girl. We had to get a different server to get more napkins and salt/pepper. She didn't drop our food off and we were almost done before she came to check how things were going. Service is the reason they didn't get a 5 star. They had lots of young workers standing around. It is your typical bar restaurant, beer signs wood metal. Didn't care for all the high tops since I was with an older person and they can't get on those chairs. The food, omg yummmy. This is some of the best bbq I have had especially in Minnesota. The brisket was juicy fall apart. The ribs were a little dry but again fall off the bone and with some of the bbq sauce delicious. The bbq sauce has a little kick, with sweet and vinegar bite. Sides Mac and cheese was everyone's favorite. It was creamy and good. Potato salad had a smoky creamy flavor. Coleslaw was creamy. Service was very friendly and helpful, no issues at all even while they attended to some larger groups during our visit. We started with the Balsamic Honey wings which were a major letdown. These were well below average in flavor and just really missed the mark. The wings were nice and crisp, but I just did not find the flavors to go well together at all. Things changed with the main course though as the brisket was super tender and very good. Then add in the biggest piece of cornbread I've ever seen with their homemade honey butter and you have a great combination! This was well worth the trip. read more

The service was outstanding. Perhaps that is because we were there during happy hour and it was crowded, however, this was my third time there and I always felt very welcome. The brisket on the nachos were well smoked but perhaps a little dry, The small container of salsa just wasn't enough, the chips were over salted as was the white cheese sauce. Cheese sauce rather than grated cheese seems to be the new fad in MN. It can be good but for me it just can't replace real cheese no matter how much it simplifies kitchen chores. We never should have ordered them we ended up with way too much food for 2 people. The brussel sprouts were perfect, the mashed potatoes were nothing special and the meatloaf was dry and the marina sauce did nothing for it. A good brown gravy would have been much better. The mac'n cheese was nothing special and the picked vegetables just should have had more flavor. The smoked chicken was perfect in every way but by the time I got to it I was too full to enjoy it. I guess if you are way out in Zimmerman with no real competition you don't need to be perfect and you can get away having a chef that doesn't understand flavors. The food is usually good. They don't have a microwave so the Mac and cheese is never that hot but food quality is very good. Expensive prices for the area in Zimmerman and sometimes the wait in summer can be long. But for a Rib shack, it's really good food. Watch your bill though. I've been charged on more than one occasion for things that were offered to me free or weren't mine at all. read more

Our server appeared within a few minutes and took our drinks and appetizer order. The food was delicious! The entrees came pretty quickly after we ordered. We loved the ribs and brisket! Both are a must. Our favorite item though was the brisket grilled cheese, so flavorful! They are kid friendly. Big outdoor patio but lots of seating inside as well. These include tables, booths, and bar seating. We were surprised that we got the last 1/2 rack ribs on a Friday evening, not sure if that is the norm for some dishes to run out? First time coming here and I will definitely be going back again and again. I liked the layout. We had a booth. Our waitress was very nice. I ordered the "3 little pigs" sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the "D's Burger." We both loved our food. I personally have not liked bbq sauce very much for a while after eating it way too much, but decided to order a sandwich with their BBQ sauce anyway and it was delicious! Three stars for the excellent service during busy dinner time. Clearly the servers love their job. Food however was sub-par and disappointing. Wings with dry rub were very salty, and I like salt. They would've been great otherwise. Smoked salmon salad was eh. Lacking flavor and salmon just sprinkled on top. $24 Salmon entree came with no sides except the "succatash" which was corn and bean salsa straight out of the Simplot Sysco frozen section. It's not succotash, which is with Lima beans and not roasted. This was also in my salad. Brisket Mac and cheese was the best item we ordered. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, I don't know. I had the beans and the fries were excellent. Service was good and they always came around checking on us. Atmosphere was not so great. They sat us next to the bar which we usually don't like. This bbq spot opened recently and I have heard only great things. Zimmerman is a small town and needed this place badly. Located right on the Main Street. Rear parking. Though you do have to climb a flight of stairs to access. There is also some street parking available in front. They have a large bar in the main eating area and then what appeared to me to be a smaller bar in a smaller dining area. We both ordered a Ribeye medium-rare. Our meat was cooked to perfection and the flavor was outstanding. The Mac and cheese was just as delicious. It has a thicker cheese and spiral style noodles. Our appetizer was the Artichoke dip. It was served with toast. What I enjoyed about the sip, other than the flavor, was that it wasn't runny but not too thick either. It was easily spreadable onto the toast. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and though they were busy, our beverages were always full and our food came out in a very reasonable time. A very pleasant dining experience! The menu is well organized and easy to read, with a wide choice of meats, fish and salads. We selected the spicy Buffalo sprouts and onion appetizer which turned out to be delicious! For entrees I had the smoked brisket, ciao ciao coleslaw and baked beans. Outstanding! My wife had the Canadian Blackened Walleye with sprouts and she said it was very good. We finished with very tasty crème brûlée. The ambiance was laid back with conversation level background noise. Finally, the service was very, very good. Our server was attentive but not a nuisance. Two other staff members stopped by our table to check on our dining experience.
