Stopped in for a late lunch. Parking was a bit of a problem with the street torn up, but the outdoor patio was pleasant, the service friendly, and the portions generous. We started with the Brussels sprouts, but abandoned them mid way through. Way too heavily salted for our taste. But the wings were beautifully smoked and had a nice rub, and the brisket grilled cheese was great. I asked for and received the fatty end, and it was also well smoked-- one of the five best servings that I've had in more than two dozen Minnesota 'cue joints. We upgraded to the mac 'n cheese as the side with the sandwich-- rich and creamy white cheese, but a little bland. A little pepper did the trick. All in all, then, a good stop. We'll be back.

Our server was a young high school or college girl. We had to get a different server to get more napkins and salt/pepper. She didn't drop our food off and we were almost done before she came to check how things were going. Service is the reason they didn't get a 5 star. They had lots of young workers standing around. It is your typical bar restaurant, beer signs wood metal. Didn't care for all the high tops since I was with an older person and they can't get on those chairs. The food, omg yummmy. This is some of the best bbq I have had especially in Minnesota. The brisket was juicy fall apart. The ribs were a little dry but again fall off the bone and with some of the bbq sauce delicious. The bbq sauce has a little kick, with sweet and vinegar bite. Sides Mac and cheese was everyone's favorite. It was creamy and good. Potato salad had a smoky creamy flavor. Coleslaw was creamy. Baked beans were smoky and goody. They had a little different taste than some but they were good.

D's Smokehouse is a really happening little spot. Lots of people packed into every little crevice. Service was very friendly and helpful, no issues at all even while they attended to some larger groups during our visit. We started with the Balsamic Honey wings which were a major letdown. These were well below average in flavor and just really missed the mark. The wings were nice and crisp, but I just did not find the flavors to go well together at all. Things changed with the main course though as the brisket was super tender and very good. Then add in the biggest piece of cornbread I've ever seen with their homemade honey butter and you have a great combination! This was well worth the trip.

The service was outstanding. Perhaps that is because we were there during happy hour and it was crowded, however, this was my third time there and I always felt very welcome. The brisket on the nachos were well smoked but perhaps a little dry, The small container of salsa just wasn't enough, the chips were over salted as was the white cheese sauce. Cheese sauce rather than grated cheese seems to be the new fad in MN. It can be good but for me it just can't replace real cheese no matter how much it simplifies kitchen chores. We never should have ordered them we ended up with way too much food for 2 people. The brussel sprouts were perfect, the mashed potatoes were nothing special and the meatloaf was dry and the marina sauce did nothing for it. A good brown gravy would have been much better. The mac'n cheese was nothing special and the picked vegetables just should have had more flavor. The smoked chicken was perfect in every way but by the time I got to it I was too full to enjoy it. I guess if you are way out in Zimmerman with no real competition you don't need to be perfect and you can get away having a chef that doesn't understand flavors. I could be wrong the chef may understand exactly what rural Minnesotans expect and want.

5 stars! It was our first visit. The food was excellent, the service was great. We're both low carbohydrate, animal based eaters so my elderly mother went with a light selection, one pound of chicken wings (with the house dry rub) from the appetizer menu. The wings were great. And I opted for the beef brisket meal from the entree menu. The brisket was off-the-hook great! LOW CARB: It was a little tricky eating low carbohydrate carnivore style at D's. They make you order 2 sides with the meals. And unfortunately, all of the sides are plant based. I opted for as low starch & as low sugar as possible so I selected the "Veggie of the Day" (fried Brussel Sprouts) and the Ciao Ciao (a style of pickled slaw). Both sides had great taste. But I definitely would have opted out of the plant products if I was given the choice to order meats a la carte. I ate all of the Ciao Ciao, but I just picked at the Brussel Sprouts and threw most of them away. The service was great, I couldn't have asked for anything better. We opted to sit at a high top table in the bar area so we were served by the bartender. Despite being busy as hell AND PREGNANT, the bartender kicked ass and dished out excellent service. She never stopped moving and hustling and smiling. Very impressive!!! My only gripe...and it's a minor one...is that D's doesn't sell meat by the pound or a la carte. If they did, I'd definitely be a regular, grabbing orders of Brisket by the pound. Thumbs up! -Maxx

We loved the ribs and brisket! Both are a must. Our favorite item though was the brisket grilled cheese, so flavorful! They are kid friendly. Big outdoor patio but lots of seating inside as well. These include tables, booths, and bar seating. We were surprised that we got the last 1/2 rack ribs on a Friday evening, not sure if that is the norm for some dishes to run out? Friendly staff and the manager was very sweet, came over to check in. We wish that they did reservations, but even on a Friday evening, there was a minimal wait.

Brisket! Wish we would have taken the before photo, but it was so tender, words cannot describe the experience!
    Julianne S.

You guysssss! I have never, ever had brisket like this in my life. So tender, it basically melts in your mouth, but has this awesome charred outer texture. We stopped here on our way up north, and will definitely be back! Kudos to the chef, as all of our dishes were a 10/10. The baked beans were a really special treat.

Have been here numerous times and have never had a bad meal. If you love meat and barbecue this is the place. Their brisket, BBQ Mac, and brussel sprouts have all been simply amazing. The servers, staff, cook, and manager have been friendly, greeting us and asking how we liked our food. I never tire of it. It can get very busy, so go early.

This is on the edge of "the middle of nowhere" (unless of course you're one of the fine folks that lives nearby). But disregard all of that - the service and the FOOD were both top notch! Different daily specials every day (see the picture) and the regular menu is HUGE! Hubby had a Peanut Butter and Jalapeño Jam burger - big 1/2 pounder - with fresh fries. I thought the fries were a little soggy (literally the only negative) but they were deliciously seasoned. I had a shaved beef with Au Jus. Now I know that sounds dull but it wasn't! The roll was super-soft but lightly toasted with a buttery taste and the beef (I'm told by the VERY fabulous waitress) is sliced from their weekly prime-rib special. I had it with a slide of slaw and GOOD LORD they actually know how to make excellent slaw! Again - same fabulous waitress says that the dressing is house-made. It really, REALLY was good. Add three tap beers and our lunch was a sweet $33. I wish we had an easier more frequent reason to stop because the menu has me intrigued! I definitely recommend it!

The captain is dead…read more The foreshadowing was there as soon as I walked in the door...from the completely missing doorhandle on the men's room...to the paper towel dispenser with a handwritten "Broken" sign on it...should have known better and just left. When you see a place in disrepair... the owners/managers/and sometimes staff are non-verbally telling you ..."We don't give a fuck about our customers." A door handle--maybe $15 at Menards and 10 minutes of time...is that too much to ask? A "broken" towel dispenser... now was it "broken" because a couple of batteries were dead inside of it? That would cost 3 or 4 bucks tops. Course if something is mechanically broken... well fellas... you can go on Angie's list and will never find a paper towel dispenser mechanic. If they are broken- you replace it. Many distributers will give you them for FREE! But why leave it on the wall? Takes you about 5 minutes to remove. But that is trivial and like I said just a clue to bigger issues within this bar/restaurant. The big issue are the flies. Not one or two...but literally HUNDREDS that buzz and disrupt your visit. Now they might try to convince you that flies just wait outside for the opportunity to get out of the hot weather and into the cool air...but that would be a lie. No...its quite OBVIOUS they have a fly infestation going on from lack of cleaning either in the kitchen or the bar. FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST THE SERVERS WERE HANDING OUT FLYSWATTERS AND LAUGHING WHILE DOING SO! I can't even imagine how gross the matts behind the bar... in the kitchen...are. If Chef Ramsey would show up he would be yelling to "SHUT IT DOWN" moments after arriving. If Jon Taffer showed up... he would scream "YOU ARE GONNA KILL SOMEBODY." I mean if you are getting buzzed constantly by flies when you dont have food or beverage around you- whats it really like in the sludge behind the bar...the sewer pipes under the counter...and especially in the kitchen and fridges? I flat out refused to eat as this kind of infestation is so unsanitary and again shows the MANAGEMENT doesnt care about its customers. This WAS A RESPECTABLE HIGH-CLASS BAR ON THE LAKE. Now its a place to avoid unless you want to get sick. And maybe the management wants it to be more of a dive bar than upscale...and I say...if so...EMBRACE THE IDEA! Keep handing out the flyswatters--hell the heavy-set guy at the bar took down at least 50 while we were there...but make it into something fun. My suggestion is to offer discounts that are based on confirmed kills. 10 kills =10% off your bill. 20 kills--20%. Think of how much fun that would be for all...and would save you the cost of calling in an exterminator! Its a win/win situation.

It's little things like that that sets Lily's Wings, Burgers, and Things apart. They stand heads and shoulders above the competition. This small, local, independent eatery is located in a small strip mall adjacent to a gas station and Subway along Northway Drive not far from the YMCA, the Whitney Senior Center and soccer fields, and all of the medical offices located in the vicinity. Lily's serves large bone-in wings, boneless wings, drumsticks, country-style breaded chicken tenders, angus or bison burgers, fish sandwiches, commercial fries, handcut fresh french fries, onion rings, jalapeno poppers, cheese curds, and more. If you don't care for fries, they have homemade cole slaw. What's nice is that there's such a variety. Along with the wings, you can choose from various homemade sauces that range from fruity to spicy, depending upon what you like. I tried the teriyaki sauce with my boneless wing combo and really liked it. It has a kick at the end, but wasn't mouth-on-fire hot. The hand cut, fresh french fries are excellent - among the best I've had in the area. They were perfectly cooked served with homemade ranch dressing. I was given a generous portion of fries to go with my combo, which featured 11 boneless wings. You can sample the sauces before you decide on which one you want to go with your wings. The restaurant is kept clean, and the server/cashier was very helpful to this newbie customer. I've also had a hamburger here - the black and blue. It was done to order (medium well). The bun was soft and delicious, the hamburger was juicy and flavorful, and the toppings (red onion, lettuce and tomato) were fresh. My only complaint, and it's a small one, was that the previous customer had left some sauce residue on the table. There wasn't a lot, and I'm sure it's easy to do at a place like this - where the sauce is the boss - but they may want to check the tables more frequently to make sure they're wiped after each customer. On the downside, it's often the case that they are understaffed. Sometimes, this means that customers up front aren't getting attention because the person is in the back tending to cooking. There really should be more staff on duty or they're going to lose business. On the plus side, each meal is made fresh to order, so that sometimes means waiting a bit for your food. There are a couple of televisions here so you can watch the news or a game. Also, the Lily's food truck ensures that you can enjoy their food when you're out and about. The food truck is frequently seen in downtown St. Cloud, especially in warmer months. You can also order online, and they'll have the order ready for pickup when you get there. It's all these touches that make Lily's a restaurant worth visiting and revisiting. I still can't get over the wet wipes. Only a true wing place would have these, instead of dry napkins. It's touches like that that make Lily's a special place.
