We first learned about Wise Choice through Yelp, and although we were initially nervous about choosing a contractor for such a large job (they gave us the best estimate, by far!) without a personal recommendation, we couldn't be happier with our decision. They were great to work with throughout the entire process, from architectural and engineering plans, permitting, and the actual construction. The project manager, Sergiy, and foreman, Bogdan, were very honest, helpful, and responsive every step of the way. The project was completed pretty much on budget (with only a couple of unforeseen issues outside of their control) and on time. We love the results, and several people have commented that the addition looks like it should have been there all along. We can't recommend Wise Choice highly enough!

My partner and I took on our first big painting job as new homeowners this week- painting our guest room that had a large, multi-textured, multi-colored mural over all four walls, closet and ceiling. We narrowed our search to two people we thought would do a good job, and made an initially ill-fated decision to go with "the other guy". "The other guy" didn't show up on the day of the job, when I called the answer was "we're on our way". "The other guy" didn't answer subsequent calls, and when his team finally showed up over two hours late they had no idea there was a problem, and "the other guy" still wasn't with them as promised. "The other guy" had taken a pretty hefty deposit a few days before the job was to begin, and I was worrying the whole time it wouldn't get returned. I felt taken advantage of, and unsure what to do next. I called the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General's office, just trying to get some info on my consumer rights but no one answered. Feeling desperate, I called Larry hoping he would give me some advice- that was the decision that turned this nightmare around... Larry was kind, explained my right to cancel the job without penalty, and offered to be in my corner throughout the process. He didn't give me a hard time about not going with him in the first place, and lent his expertise without asking whether at this point we were planning to go with him. When I asked if he would still take our job, he and his guy were over here in 30 minutes getting it started. The job has just finished up- right on time. It looks INCREDIBLE, no evidence of the multi-colored mural or blue ceiling anywhere. Lines are perfect, superb attention to detail. I can't believe how hard the one man crew worked to make this happen, or how fast it came together. The work ethic was impeccable, and I felt completely safe with him in my home. Truly unbelievable on so many levels- Larry is the guy who knows what to do, how to do it, and shows up to get it done. I know that for every job we have for our 100 year old home in the future, DP Palmer will be our first and only call. read more

My wife and I purchased a craftsman home in Queen Anne, Seattle built in 1920. We obtained a photo of its glory and dreamed of returning its original condition. Covered in bright yellow vinyl the condition of its cedar lap siding was unknown and we needed a company and crew who were meticulous in the details and delicate in restoration. After six long months of searching and interviewing contractors we found a diamond named Larry Palmer. We felt he had a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship of the era, our expectations and dreams, as well as our love of "our home" for which we plan to raise our children. Bottom line, the restoration was simply extraordinary. The vinyl covering was removed and the cedar lap siding was completely stripped of nearly 100 years of paint and grime. Understanding the health and welfare of my family, he went above and beyond protecting us during the lead paint removal including double sealing our windows form the inside so no dust entered the home. His team was dedicated to our vision and "restored" our home as if it was just built in 1920. It was simply unbelievable and was "too good to be true". As such, I waited for the paint to bubble, for the house to leak, I waited for something bad to happen... nothing, other than a few paint cracks at the caulking joints on the south east side of the home that is exposed to most of the sun. And as stated in his word and sealed in a hand shake one year ago, Mr. Palmer and his crew were at my door step with one phone call. These expected small issues were restored immediately again in meticulous detail. And so, I have waited to make my recommendation now as Mr. Palmer has surpassed every expectation that we have had. This is not just a painting company, they are a restoration company. The hand cut old growth wood, precision craftsmanship of the early 1900s should not be handled by just any company. If you love your home as much as we do, hire Larry Palmer Painting and Restoration. read more

Larry Palmer is full of surprises! When I called requesting an estimate, he met with me that very same day (no waiting) He did a thorough assessment of the necessary repairs. I had originally called for just a repainting of peeling trim paint (from a previous disappearing painter) and Larry was the only contractor who pointed out that I had rot in my two sky lights and just painting would eventually cause major rot in my roof. He was over the next day with a written estimate. Explained it all to me and was able to save some money with different ideas. Then of all things, he prepared the schedule and was here when he said he would be!! His crew was amazing. They were here (on time when Larry promised)worked till lunch, went right back to work and never wasted a minute of work time. They were polite, very careful with my plants and yard......on the day they were finished they cleaned up every bit of sawdust., etc. and left my property just as it was when they arrived except that my house looked so beautiful, they did an awesome job!! The topper was when I goofed and chose a horrible color for my front porch.....the job had been completed and Larry had been paid. I mentioned the porch to him and he insisted on ordering the right color and having his crew repaint the porch at no additional cost to me!! All in all Larry was exceptional in his professionalism, knowledge, pride in his work and also has a fun sense of humor. DP Palmer Painting and Restoration just painted the exterior of our house in Snoqualmie, WA. We met with six different companies and from the beginning of the process we knew that we wanted to work with DP Palmer. Our house is only five and half years old and the original paint job was bad to begin with. Larry walked us through the process and his creative expertise was evident from our first meeting. The house does not have the same interest as a true Craftsman style home from the 1920s and 1930s, but it still has some interest. Larry and his team highlighted details that had been lost by the use of a very interesting color scheme, the use of high quality products and excellent craftsmanship. Too many contractors don't care and want to come in and get out as soon as possible. Larry and his team are very busy, but they took the time to do the job right. By right, I mean a beautiful look and skilled applications. Larry was more than flexible with changes we requested and he made some changes of his own. This is the best collaborative experience we've had with a contractor. Our house looks gorgeous and is a real stand out amidst a sea of basic paint jobs. It's more than a paint job. Larry took on the incredibly ambitious project of renovating our 1914 Craftsman home, repainting the exterior, expanding the primary bathroom, refinishing floors, decking, stairwells, expanding and updating the kitchen, updating electrical and heating systems to modern standards, and so much more. The project is almost complete, but we were so excited that we wanted to write the review anyway! Throughout the process, Larry and his crew worked tirelessly to get things done, always focusing on quality and making sure we were happy with the work. We hired Larry from DP Palmer restoration after a long list of previously failed painters to complete a year long construction ordeal with our house. To make a long story short, the exterior painting of our house was initially done incorrectly. After dealing with two previous painters, we hired Larry. From the very beginning he was timely, knowledgeable and communicative. He did extensive research to ensure the proper completion of the job. His crew proceeded to promptly start the work, and completed it with care. They did not rush to finish it as fast as possible while cutting corners on quality. We have had nothing but THE FINEST Work, craftsmanship, attention to detail and personal service from Mr. Palmer and his crew... He really has a special gift for selecting just the right color or stain. His crew is trust worthy, prompt and thorough.... We did have a few issues along the way, however, Mr. Palmer was forthright in addressing and FIXING any issues that we had. This firm are terrible. With a catalogue of mistakes, errors and poor workmanship on my job. Leaving the job unfinished. He works under various names such as Don Palmer and Larry Lee Palmer to avoid bad press. WARNING - Don't be fooled by the chat, this guy is dishonest and cannot be trusted. In regards to the Larry's comments below. None of these are true. I am a legitimate Yelp user. I have never been paid to write post on any website. It of course right to remain anonymous online - comment is frankly ludicrous, home spun (like most of his waffle) and a desperate allegation. I…read moreinitially thought the entire board would need to be replaced, but Joe and Rex determined that the wood rot wasn't as prevalent as I had thought, and they recommended repairing, sealing, and giving the wood a good thick paint cover (a considerably less expensive job!). I really appreciated their honesty and found their pricing to be very comparable. They were speedy, very friendly, and cleaned up so that I never knew they were there - except of course for my clean new fascia board. Additionally, I am a real estate agent and have hired GeRoy Construction to handle several handy-man type projects for my clients (again - very thorough, honest, and price competitive.) Have also recommended them to clients/friends to handle bigger remodel projects. Have heard nothing but good things!

And was careful to protect and safe things that were to be reused. He is meticulous and accurate with measurements and cutting products. And always left the site as clean and usable each day as possible. We love the results.

We worked with J&M on a bathroom remodel. Bathroom is 5x6 feet and quote was for 6 weeks work and…read more50k. We ended project at 18 weeks and 60k. During our project, the sub-contractors damaged the wall while installing our toilet by drilling through the wall and failing to hook up the toilet correctly so that water was pouring straight into our basement. The sub-contractor did pay for these damages. We had no supply chain issues with our project as we had purchased all the materials ourselves before hand. Our primary issues with working with J&M was that due to the amount of projects they had going on, it felt that unless we were actively saying we were unhappy with progress and calling J&M frequently, there would only be work at our home 1 or 2 days a week. When asking for estimates for components J&M were unable to provide accurate estimates. For example, it was estimated that tiling our shower would take 1 week with 2 people due to the complex design. It ended up taking 3 weeks. This is our only bathroom, so we lived with my parents for several weeks, but I would hesitate to recommend J&M to anyone who doesn't have a flexible timeline. In addition, J&M failed to notify of us of change orders that resulted in an increase of price. These were supposed to be agreed upon mutually before the work was completed, but instead J&M released them after the work was done and were forced to eat the cost. J&M did not provide any options to mitigate this cost even though this was in direct breach of our contract. Ultimately, we are reasonably happy with the final outcome of our bathroom, but extremely unhappy with path to get there. We ended up not asking for several fixes as we were so fed up with the inaccurate timelines and constantly changing estimates. Fixes include 1) bleeding paint on ceiling, 2) missed paint spot, 3) grout on window and tile, 4) miss-cut vanity counter-top, and 5) dip in floor tiling causing one spot to not drain. All in all, J&M has good general contractors, but seem extremely mismanaged in the back of office. If you do work with them, double check all billing multiple times as we found several inaccuracies. Hold J&M to prices and push back on change order process.
