This is for an exterior paint job on our house. First thing, they did an excellent job. The owner and admin: Matt and Sequoia were great and easy to work with. Matt came to give us the quote and talked about what they do and why. He was very patient with any questions we had. We felt his quote was fair and in market range based on the 3 other bids we were considering. Ultimately our decision to go with Heck Painting was based on working with Matt, the high Yelp reviews, and the knowledge that a good company stays around long enough to back their work.. Pre-painting: We had initially scheduled this job for the end of last summer but the weather made for unfavorable painting conditions. They only had time to complete the pressure washing and priming. Our window trim was in really bad shape so during the pressure washing a lot of it flaked off, more than I think they expected and so there was a lot of flakes on the ground. We checked in with them and they promptly took care of the matter. They moved us to the top of the list for this Spring and then COVID hit so they communicated with us the revised schedule based on the recovery phases. Once they were able to start they did another pressure wash, a little lighter this time to get any winter grime/pollen. This was good as it assured the paint has a clean surface to adhere to. The paint crew: Jason and Aliazar communicated when they would arrive at the job site and were prompt if not early. They worked together as a team and made great progress, touching base about the schedule and what was going to be worked on next. They did an excellent job of masking surfaces to avoid over spray and would lay down tarps where needed. They clearly knew what they were doing and very knowledgeable about painting. Once they started they were able to complete the work in the allotted time. We decided to replace our front porch awning versus painting it so they had no problems with adjusting the quote. We really love the new look of the house and are confident that this is a look we will last a long time. You won't go wrong with Heck Painting and they do more than just painting so they are now at the top of my list for any home improvement projects. read more

It's really tough to pay a lot of money for a project I could have done better myself. Here's how it went down for us: - The bidding process was great. Matt came out and assessed the space and wrote up a great professional bid. - The start of the day was shaky. They said they'd be at our place at 7am. No dice. I called the company. They gave me the number for the painter, and he said "you didn't answer your door, so we went to go get coffee." (Note: It is possible we didn't hear the doorbell, but they did not take the initiative to ring the bell again or call us!) By the time they returned it was nearly 8am. - They dinked around while doing the prep. I came down to check at 10 and 11 and they hadn't really done anything. - Then they took a really long lunch break. - And suddenly they were "done" at 2pm. I could see that the light blue we had before was keeping our white from being crisp. They painted over holes that they weren't supposed to. (They told us to keep the hardware in on anything we wanted to keep, but they painted over those anyway.) Their lines weren't crisp and we can see blue lines around everything. Matt wasn't on our job; it was his team. I wonder if he needs to be there for the job to be more diligent and go well. In our case, it was just bad. read more

Matt and his team were tops. They came and did a walk through last summer to do a complete external paint job on our 1930's craftsman. He actually told us that we could wait another year, even though we were prepared to go through with it that summer. He worked with us to clean up the house and do a few emergency repairs, which turned out well, with a few issues (door that needed to be rehung was hung incorrectly, and some paint was showing some sort of pigment seepage. We didn't have them fix it though since they were coming back to do a complete paint job this summer. They were really flexible with a last minute reschedule from us, and when they started the paint job, were ready to fix the areas of concern from last summer. Omar & his crew were great...very respectful of the house, and extreme professionals. They were there when they said they'd be there, and finished when they said they would. They contacted us about a few minor tweaks to the job, and fixed a few sections of rotted out wood beautifully. All in all, house is better than new. I'd recommend Matt & his team to anyone. We did not get any other quotes, but felt very comfortable that the amount quoted & charged were very competitive and fair. read more

In addition there was quite a good deal of siding and wood that needed to be replaced and Matt's carpentry skills were far more than adequate. They painted my entire roof and stained my deck and painted my shed. I could not have asked for a better group of guys. They were friendly and respectful and totally trustworthy. These guys are amazing! From start to finish they were professional, prompt and super detail oriented. I had a quick turn interior painting job to get done before moving into a new home, and Matt was able to work with me to squeeze it into their calendar. Matt came over to provide an initial assessment, and took the time to walk through every room and closet and provide a really detailed estimate on time needed. I had a paint selected that he thought might show up too dark, and recommended I go at a 50% lighter tint. I followed his advice and am so glad I did - the place looks amazing and feels light and spacious. Jason helped to paint the space, and he was in constant phone/text communication to provide status updates, and ask me questions on how I wanted certain things done. I'd also had the carpet pulled up in the bedrooms and the floors underneath redone, which left the trim in bad shape. Jason was able to replace and paint the trim as well, which I appreciated greatly. Now that I'm in my home, I'm catching all of these crazy details they didn't miss, like removing all of the light switch/outlet plates and painting behind them, and pulling out the stove and fridge to paint behind the appliances. I would recommend Matt and his team in a heartbeat, and will be coming back to them in the summer next year when I paint the exterior of my house. read more

I called Heck, because of the great reviews, and it seemed that they would be a reasonably priced company. I can not comment on the quality of their work, which must be great, according to the other reviews. However, for the price that you pay, it must be nothing short of impeccable. Very expensively priced, and the estimator that came to my house tried to fool me into taking more services, which I may have, if I wasn't an art student, and was unfamiliar with paint. I had less than one room worth of painting to be done, the estimator told me it would be an all-day job and $800. Umm, No. I'll rent a ladder from Aurora rents, and finish the job myself, for 30 bucks. Are they serious? The job 4 hrs max, would have worked out to $200 an hour? We just had Heck Painting in to do several rooms in our home on Mercer Island. They were fantastic! We called for an estimate to paint the interior of our house and got a call back the next day to schedule an appointment. Even though it's a painter's busiest time of year, Matt managed to work us in for the estimate five days later. He took his time walking through our house and asked perceptive questions about the unusual aspects of our painting project. What really amazed us was the quick turnaround time on the estimate: he e-mailed it to us later that same evening. The estimate was detailed and clearly laid out. It was also within $500 of the lowest estimate we received. We would have selected him for the job except for the fact that he said that he personally is booked-up for the rest of the summer and would be delegating our project to a subcontractor. Heck Painting painted two floors of my house. While they were not the least expensive bid I received, they were very competitive. I chose to go with Heck because of the strong comfort level I had in the walk through during the bidding process with Matt. Most of the job was completed while my family and I were out of town, which we had never done before. But from the beginning, I could tell Matt and his crew were accustomed to going above and beyond. They offered to move heavy furniture like beds and dressers for us and to reposition our washer/dryer to make the space more useable, several other companies were not willing to do this. The crew leader, Jason, was particularly exceptional. He gave us some good tips which we ended up using when making a few changes to some of our decisions. His experience painting showed with some of these suggestions. Jason and the rest took great care to tape edges, cover areas in plastic and make sure every detail was exactly as we expected and hoped it would be. When we returned home the house looked fantastic. Matt was called in as a sub-contractor to repair interior basement walls with sheetrock and insulation, then texture and paint (studs were in place). Did a great job on about 30' linear with a corner, floor to ceiling with special sheetrocking around duct work. Did some sheet metal reinforcement I asked for, took pix for documentation before closing the walls up. Saw the work in progress, did a nice job with taping and mudding, texturing and priming. Found that he had to go match the paint and trim, but found the perfect colors. Punctual and neat, very good daily and final clean up. Did a great job communicating, came as early as 0630 so I could get to work, also uses email which I find useful. So he not only does painting, but some construction / carpentry / handyman stuff too. We will use him again when the need arises. read more
