D-Mac's Floors does a fair job -- once the job is completed. Unfortunately, Danny overpromises and underdelivers. He fails to follow through and appears to inadequately oversee his crew.
The company was contacted and told that if we hired them, we would be on a deadline. Danny assured me that it could be met. He said that I should call to schedule the installation two weeks before we needed to have the work done.
Based on the move-in date, June 25, Danny scheduled a start date of Wednesday, June 18 -- no work was done. Danny then promised June 19. Again, nothing was done.
After receiving promises that the job would still be completed on time, work started that Friday. By the end of the day, all of the old flooring was supposed to have been taken up and removed from the premises. It was not. Again, Danny reassured me that he would start laying the flooring on Saturday and finish on time. Come Saturday evening, he had barely made progress.
Monday morning, I stopped by to give him some money for the materials, and I expressed my concerns about meeting the deadline. I received more assurances. As I walked into the condo, I noticed that a TV was set up by the fireplace. Danny claimed that the crew was only listening to soccer matches. Given the little progress, I had doubts.
One problem that he encountered, but as a professional was aware of, was that when taking up the old tile floors, he needed to pour self-leveling concrete. I informed him that I would gladly pay for extra bags so as to ensure that he would not run out in the middle of the project. Instead, Danny bought a pre-mixed can of filler, which left the floor looking horribly uneven. Eventually he did buy the correct material; but, I am sure this contributed to the delay in completing the job.
By Tuesday night, there was still lots of flooring that needed to be laid. He wanted to come back on Wednesday; but, we insisted that he stay until all the flooring was installed, and at least the new baseboard laid in one room. We had a partial moved scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, and the items were to go in the room that needed completion. The remainder was scheduled for Thursday. It was not until almost 10 p.m. before enough of the flooring was laid for us to feel comfortable dismissing the crew. Our mistake was then paying the balance of what was owed.
Wednesday morning, Danny's crew commenced working, and in the afternoon, the movers arrived and had to maneuver around Danny's crew. Except for the transition pieces, the installation was completed on Wednesday night.
The estimated cost, including floors but not baseboards was $6167. The final cost was $8404.18. Numerous times I asked Danny for copies of the materials receipts, since I was separately responsible for their purchase. Originally he promised to provide them; but, he didn't. After the job was completed, he just ignored my calls.
He also promised a 7 year warrantee on his work. I called him about an issue with the baseboards. As before, he did not return my call.
Although overall, the flooring does look nice, based on the company's failure to meet deadlines, failure to honor warrantees, and failure to provide the necessary documents to justify their cost, I would not recommend it. I would not complain about the final cost, if the company had been more responsive to our concerns about the deadline and would correct the baseboard issue. As is often stated, hold final payment until the job is completed to your satisfaction. read more
