I am a classic car owner. My 1963 Cadillac convertible was having cooling issues and after reading the magnificent reviews I contacted D Mac's. The owner is a wonderful gentleman and mechanic who runs his shop in an old school ethical manner. They made special arrangements to take my boat of a machine. Unfortunately for me, my vehicle was going to need a lot more deep engine repairs. Many shops would try and gouge you. Not D Macs. Despite all the phone calls and time that was already invested in figuring out the issue, D Macs was sorry of my plight and refused to charge me a dime. I am so impressed with this shop and the owner. It is rare to find businesses run in this manner anymore, and I will be sending those I know who need regular service repairs to D Macs in the future. Visited 9/14/2018 After accidentally hitting a construction plastic cone on the freeway the night before and having the cone Go up under the car and break the radiator on my ladies car we needed somewhere early the next morning to send it to for repair. Bryan was there and already opened for business. He handed us a card for a guy that would tow us over to the shop. Within a half hour from start to finish our car was towed in put on the rack and we knew what we are facing. Bryan greeted us with a smile and charged what is a reasonable fee for repairs in this day and age. Unfortunately this happened on Friday and they couldn't get another radiator until Monday. Fortunately I was driving in front of her when the accident happened so we came back Tuesday and picked up a car. He helped to make this unpleasant experience as good as it could be. One morning, my battery started losing charge during my commute. Freaking out, I called D Mac's to see if I could get my car seen on short notice and was relieved to be told that there wouldn't be an issue. The battery died just down the road, but Brian helped me get it to his shop. The alternator was identified as the issue, and, a short time later, my car was back on the road with a fully charged battery and a new, functional alternator. Toyota, Lexus, or '57 Chevy? D Mac's does 'em all! After a misunderstanding with my former mechanic a few years back, I was considering selling my reliable Lexus. It simply needed some expensive maintenance that I didn't trust anybody to do without them messing up something else. Brian saved me when I had to be towed home in the middle of the night due to the previous guy's oil overfill, so I decided to let him do the timing belt, water pump, and brakes. His prices were reasonable for all that work, and I like the fact that he's a one man shop, with no "new guy" to blame mishaps on. My friends were taking bets I'd never make it in there by 7am, but I did, and when Brian was finished, I had a brand-new car. I drove out to the country, up and down hills. Acceleration was much improved, though I'm not sure why. The brakes were silent, and gripped firmly as I eased to a stop from a steep downhill grade. No shuddering rotors, no "you have to break 'em in" squeal. Perfect! I waited a few weeks to write this, making sure it wasn't my imagination. Nope. I have a 1956 Ford Thunderbird that had suspension issues, and a crack in the lower radiator bracket. Car was brought in from out-of-state, and had to go to the CHP for inspection. So my time frame was very tight for the minimum repairs to get the car road worthy. Brian's was the only shop in North County San Diego able to take my car and turn it around in time. He had the radiator core re-built and the bottom bracket was re-machined from scratch. He also performed some other repairs, noted more repairs that would be needed in the future, and completed the car in time for my inspection! If I lived in-land I would have taken it back for the rest of the repairs, but I live near the coast. I took the T-Bird to another shop, and they verified everything that Brian found. Very, very pleased with D Mac's. And again, would not hesitate to use him again, if I had to/lived closer. read more

Brian harks back to the days when a mechanic would not need $125 up front for diagnosing what might be nothing more than a loose fan belt needing tightening. I just needed someone to pop the hood and listen to a peculiar noise. Brian was nice enough to do that. I suspected it had something to do with my power steering as this noise happened only sporadically. He said it was probably some air getting into the system and to wait until I noticed some fluid leaking out and not to be overly concerned as my Tacoma is 18 years old with 100k trouble free miles on it and a full reservoir and clear fluid. This is not really a review of D-MAC'S as much as it is a review of coupon books they have sold for free oil changes. I purchased 6 pre-paid DMAC oil changes through Peeler's of San Diego. They honored the first two, but stopped honoring the coupons because they claimed that the vendor started to give the coupon books away. Granted, these coupons are very old (I bought them in 2004), but they are supposed to have no expiration date (says so explicitly) An honorable business would have honored the coupons that were paid for (the fact that they partnered with Peeler's of San Diego and had problems is their problem not the customers). I believe this speaks poorly of this business. For the record, the service for the two oil changes they did was fine. The service was courteous and professional. read more

Very professional and courteous service is what I experienced at this auto repair shop. Bryan was very calm, which is an important quality when dealing with people's cars. He communicated clearly and contacted me often with updates regarding my vehicle repair. He was always polite and asked questions allowing me to be "in charge"of decisions. I'm not from around here. I am from ND and I can normally fix up my car myself. But when it comes to me needing to take it across the country on a big move I didn't want to put my break pads and my disks on by myself. I called around and Dmac was the cheapest i could find. As soon as i got my car there he was outside waiting and told me to hop out and he could take it from there. He let me know i could walk around and that it would be done within an hour. An hour later i came back and he was all done. I paid him, he drove my car around the parking lot for a second to make sure it was safe to drive and I was off! He was a very funny sweet guy. Other shops I went to told me that they would have to remove the head, or engine to make the repair. Not only did he not have to do either of those things, he also had it fixed in one day!
