Brushy Creek Lake Park - Bluebonnets are coming out

Brushy Creek Lake Park

Nice park, especially if you've got kids in a stroller and want to go for a short hike. The trail…read morethat runs over the dam is all paved (not sure how far it continues being paved since we turned around). Lots of pedestrians, bikers, dog walkers. You can also walk on the unpaved trail along the water (it's very smooth and stroller-friendly). There is a playground. It's split into two areas for different ages. It's great in theory but I found it a bit lacking. There's a rudimentary playground that's labeled as 2-5. And a crunk playground (3-tiered, with gnarly slides) labeled as 5-12. Don't get me wrong -- this big playground is awesome for older kids. But it's a bit too advanced/scary for a 3-year-old. Meanwhile, the little playground was too simple/easy for her. So there's a middle age that isn't really catered to. But, great for 2-year-olds and 5+. There are also multiple parks with playgrounds within a short driving distance (Champion, Olson Meadows) so you can easily park hop.

They've completely renovated the playground and the splash pad at Brushy Creek Lake Park! The new…read moreequipment is of such high quality, with separate playgrounds for older and younger kids. The splash pad has a dedicated fenced in area for the water fun, and a nice grassy area with tables and seating. Perfect for a picnic! I love taking walks with my daughters along the lake, admiring the views and enjoying the wildlife. If you're adventurous you can rent a canoe or kayak from the boathouse and take it out onto the lake as well. This park is a beautiful place to spend time on a weekend!

I could not possibly be more impressed with 180 Performance Center & True Grind Systems. The…read morefacilities, location and -- most of all -- the coaches and instructors are exactly what I was hoping to find for my nearly-7-year-old son. I saw an ad in the Community Impact for the 180 Performance Center "Youth Summer Baseball Camp", and signed my son up for a week in late-July, 2022. He had an absolutely awesome experience! There were 3 coaches for roughly 20 kids; everyone got plenty of individual attention; and I could see a quantifiable improvement in my son's skills and confidence each and every day. Here's what was most impressive about the coaches: they reward EFFORT just as much (if not more) as results. Even if the kids made an error, the coaches were quick to praise the work they put into trying to get it right. It cannot be overstated how important that is to me -- and to every kid, really. I was lucky enough to play professional football in my heyday, and -- even though I don't know the first thing about baseball -- I do have the luxury of perspective that young athletes don't have. All of the coaches and instructors have professional and/or college experience; they know what it takes. Instilling the mindset of "always trying to get it right instead of always being right" is so vital to sports development, and life-in-general development. It's the practice, the homework, the chores, the manners -- the things they don't give you a trophy for -- that lay the foundation for a good life. It's apparent that 180 Performance Center and True Grind Systems was founded on this credo. One of the founders and owners I had the pleasure of meeting, Mr. Tom Snell, epitomizes this mindset, and only hires instructors and coaches that share that mindset. It's the perfect place for my son to develop as an athlete and as a human being; my only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner. If you're a parent or player who has seen too many coaches fixated on "winning-at-all-costs" instead of stressing development and fundamentals, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Thank you to Mr. Snell, the coaches (Austin, Bryson and Tyler), and everyone else involved with 180 Performance Center & True Grind Systems. It has unequivocally been one of the best experiences of my son's young life!

Mountain View Park - So fun I even played on it a little myself as a grown-up lol

A truly lovely little park nestled in the middle of an upper-middle class neighborhood. We stumbled…read moreupon it while hiking the nearby Spicewood Valley Trail, as there was a sign pointing toward an offshoot with stairs up to it. It was a great intermission to our hike, as we could relieve ourselves, refill our water bottles, and just relax a bit. =) The park has lots of green grass, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a modern children's play structure-- including swings, bucket swings, and even a tire swing!-- many shaded picnic tables, a restroom, and a water fountain. Some kind soul even left out extra sidewalk chalk so others who were visiting could pick up and play. I'll admit that even I added a li'l doodle on the ground, because I simply couldn't resist. There seemed to be a small parking lot nearby if you do not live in the area but decide to just come visit. There were bulletin boards for posting events and such, though nothing was on them at the time of our visit last weekend. If you're looking for even more adventure, I do recommend the nearby trail, which is assessible from multiple points in the neighborhood.
