It is an average D'Angelo's sandwich shop. Ordered food without a specific vegetable and received that vegetable on my sandwich.

Pokemoto - Poké burrito

Pokemoto

(17 reviews)

Hard to get poke bowl around here, so I had to try this place. When I walked it, there were only…read moretwo other diners. It had a sort of fast-food type of feel to it, but it was clean and bright. Never been to a Pokemoto before, so I didn't know what their menu was. It's very customizable, but since it was my first time here, I just asked for their miso salmon bowl (I was tied between the Hawaiian bowl and the miso salmon, and the girl making it said she preferred the miso salmon). Along with it, I got a seaweed salad and a mango boba tea. The miso salmon bowl was pretty good. The rice was definitely a calrose variety. It's the closest we come to a Japanese short grain for a US variety...otherwise, more commonly referred to as "sushi rice" in the US. The salmon had good texture and flavor. The miso was pretty good. Enough to give it flavor, but not so much that it overpowers it (I think it was made with a shiro miso, but I could be wrong). The garlic and onion chips gave the flavor some depth and provided texture. I was worried the cilantro could overpower the flavor of the salmon, but it didn't. The mango pieces in it....I'm up in the air about that. It was a more sour mango, and poke bowls definitely need a bit of acid or sour to cut the fattiness, but I found the mango a bit distracting. That said, I'm not sure what I'd use in place of it. The seaweed salad... it was.............okay. I mean, I liked it, but I found it very, very sweet. I feel like a bit less sugar, and a bit more sesame oil. Oh, and some sesame seeds. The mango boba tea... After looking more closely at the menu, I may have just ordered wrong, but, in contrast to the seaweed salad being too sweet, the mango boba tea was not sweet enough. Look, mango is a super sweet fruit, and when you get a dry mango sweetness, it's............weird. It's like this...imagine if you got a cup of watermelon juice, and when you drink it, you get a dry watermelon sweetness to it; like you get with a dry wine. Odd. Additionally, the boba pearls didn't have much flavor, but I didn't request it with the brown sugar pearls, so that's actually probably my fault. The boba tended to clump together, though, which was a bit odd (they don't do that when I make it at home). Overall, I liked it. I'll be honest, it's not the cheapest, but dining out hasn't been cheap since 2019. Was it worth it? Will I dine there again? Definitely. If I still lived in the apartments at the Commons, I'd probably find myself there once a week.

First off, the spam musubi is not traditional Hawaiian style. We do not use sushi rice in Hawaii…read more It really ruined the flavor. The poke bowl wasn't bad though. The ingredients were quite fresh and it's nice to be able to choose what you want to mix together which means if you ate it every day, you could have something different each time. Bubble tea is very sweet, but they are good in moderation. I would try it again for anything but the spam musubi.
