D&E has helped me move a grand piano twice, around DC. They are pros, and make it look easy.

This is the place to go in the DMV if you're looking for a new Yamaha piano…read more We were first-time piano buyers looking for a new U1. From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.

I put a deposit down on a Clavinova 775…read more Well, first off world class customer service. Dan and Teresa were very nice and warm. Competitive pricing. Anyway, I had to cancel the order a few days later. Refunded me immediately. Honest and trustworthy owners! Thanks and sorry it didn't work out. Great music store!

I booked a date for our piano move, but David requested the day before because then it would be "on…read moretheir way." This would only work for us if the piano arrived before 4:30pm on the new date. David assured me that would be absolutely no problem. I followed up in writing to confirm the date and that he'd call the day before with exact time windows, but that the piano would be dropped off before 4:30pm. David thanked me for confirming and said he would "call both locations the day before with your time windows". I understood this to mean the piano would arrive before 4:30pm, but that he would call with the exact window the day before. David did not call. When I called him the day before, he said the piano would be dropped off in Brooklyn by 3:30....my piano was supposed to be going over 2.5 hours (over 140 miles) from Brooklyn. He assumed I was someone else based on my NY cell number. He then said it'd arrive between 5-7pm. I asked him to accommodate before 4:30pm as per our prior agreement and he said no. There was a big snow storm, so I understand that sometimes things need to be shifted, but I was surprised he didn't even acknowledge our agreement. Pick up: Our time window was 8-10am, but I was told to expect them closer to 8 since we were the first stop. The movers arrived at 9:15 and were professional and respectful. I was glad that I brought my checkbook as a backup because David failed to inform me of the 4% credit card fee, which the movers informed me of. I verified the piano would be delivered between 5-7pm and they said no way. They booked an elevator in brooklyn at 3 (So I guess there was no intention to honor our 4:30pm agreement). They told me it'd be closer to 8pm, they'd call when they left Brooklyn and that if it was too late our drop off was "only 45 minutes away" so he could "drive it over first thing in the morning" Delivery: After receiving no calls, I finally got in touch with David at 6:27pm who told me our piano was still in Brooklyn and they'd bring it in the morning. My family at the drop off location confirmed a 9am-12pm delivery time the next day.The movers did not call by 11:45am the next day, so I called David to find out where the piano was and what time it would arrive. I also wanted to express that I understood the weather's impact, but that I was frustrated/concerned with all of the misinformation. My hope was that he would provide me with accurate information and "Sorry about the inconvenience. Rest assured that your piano is safe and will be delivered at this time" David became extremely aggressive and began to yell that he never agreed to honor any time agreement as he would have charged me more money, and that he'd go back into his tapes to prove it (I've since asked him to do this and he has ignored my emails). I was unable to get in more than a few words when David started to yell "YOU'RE GOING TO LISTEN TO ME TALK". I asked him to calm down as this was becoming a very high anxiety situation for me since he was holding my property, he mocked me. At this point, I notified David I was going to record the rest of our call because I was concerned for the safety of my property. He hung up and subsequently pushed my calls to voicemail. He instead texted me to stop calling him because he was driving (Texting though? Really?). I asked him to pull over and safely call his customer back and that I was concerned for my property's safety. He refused and his final reply was "I'm driving. I WILL CALL YOU WHEN IM LEAVING BALTIMORE" (Baltimore is 1.5hours from our drop off location). Eventually it arrived at my family's house 3 hours later. In short, David made a verbal agreement that was not honored. He did not call me the day before with the pick up/drop off times. He said my piano would be delivered to the wrong state. He told me we could pay by card, but neglected to inform me of a 4% fee. He said the piano would arrive by 7pm the same day and then by 12pm the next day. He told a story that was not true about my piano pick up while he was yelling at me (so he clearly didn't even know who he was talking to). He denied that I ever requested to have a specific time window (obviously I did or else I wouldn't have confirmed it in writing) and yelled that he would pull the tapes and prove it and now he won't. He Hung up on me while he was in possession of my piano. He yelled at me and mocked me on the phone. He angry texted (all caps) at me. What happened to the professional in "Professional piano movers"? I emailed David 2days ago to discuss this. His website boasts a "satisfaction guarantee" and while he was screaming at me he offered to pull the recorded tapes to "prove" I didn't ask for a specific delivery time. I have followed up with a second email. The movers itself were good so I really just wanted an apology, but given that my check was cashed yesterday and he has thus far ignored my emails, I do not expect to hear from David again.

Very unreliable, terrible service. They told me they would come move my piano on a Monday, but…read morenever told me what time. When I emailed to find out what time they would come, they told me it would have to be Tuesday, and that they would call Monday afternoon to confirm a time. After receiving no call on Monday, I then called and sent an email, neither of which were responded to, and (no surprise) no one showed up on Tuesday either. I then emailed asking if they were planning on coming sometime this week, as having thought they would move the piano on Monday, I had a bed scheduled to be delivered on Friday. They responded that they would not be able to come this week, because a lot of deliveries had piled up at the last minute, did not apologize, and told me to "let them know" if next week would work for me. Needless to say, I found another piano mover, so I can't comment on how well they actually do their job if they ever show up to do it, but this entire process was so frustrating, I would definitely not recommend it to anyone.
