From the moment I arrived, I felt dismissed and disrespected.. particularly by my consultant, Andrea. Despite completing a lengthy online style quiz before my appointment and spending 45 minutes going over what I was looking for, none of the dresses selected for me reflected my requests. I was told they didn't carry anything like that.. only to later find that exact style on the rack myself. Throughout my appointment, it was implied more than once that I was "too big" for certain dresses. I was told multiple times a dress was "too small for me to try on" rather than them offering to clip or pin it to help me visualize. The entire appointment felt rushed and limited--I was only shown five dresses in an hour and a half. When I found the perfect dress myself.. the one I had been describing from the start, Andrea tossed it into the fitting room, left it zipped in the bag, and walked away without any help. In the middle of our emotional moment, me crying because I had finally found the dress... Andrea walked by holding a trash bag and sarcastically said, "Oh, so I guess you've found the one?" Her attitude immediately changed when I confirmed I wanted to buy it, which felt incredibly disingenuous. The aftermath was no better. When I spoke to the owner, Maria, to express how hurt and embarrassed I felt, I was met with disbelief. She offered a meager 5% discount (around $50) as if that would make up for being body-shamed and humiliated on what should have been one of the happiest experiences of my life. She later offered 10% if I agreed to use their alteration services (why would I want to give more money to a business that treated me this way?). Eventually, she rescinded all offers, claiming no wrongdoing after reviewing silent security footage ignoring the verbal comments witnessed not only by me, but by my mom and two members of my bridal party. To make matters worse, I found out my dress hadn't even been ordered despite being paid for in full. Maria tried to justify this by saying I hadn't confirmed I wanted to purchase it...again, despite having paid in full with my mom's credit card. She then said the dress was supposed to be ordered with a tariff, but she will let it go because her staffing did not do their job and that I should feel lucky and that she was meeting me in the middle with the 5% and that she had to eat the tariff pricing ...only for it to magically arrive two days later from their local warehouse that Andrea and her other consultant that was following Andrea around, stated to me when I picked up the dress that it was in the local warehouse that downtown bridal gets their dresses.. why would I had to have paid for tariff pricing? It's hard not to feel taken advantage of. This experience was not only disappointing--it was deeply hurtful. To be made to feel ashamed of your body, to be spoken down to, dismissed, and then gaslit by both a consultant and the owner is completely unacceptable. No one, especially a bride, should ever feel the way I felt that day. I'm sharing this so that others, especially women who may already feel insecure about their bodies, know what they're walking into. Downtown Bridal completely failed me. I will never recommend them to anyone. Brides deserve to feel beautiful, heard, and respected none of which happened here.

I called a couple days ahead of our planned visit to see if we needed to make an appointment, and I spoke to Mrs. Scher on the phone and I was told just to show up and they would take it from there. It's pretty easy to find if you are familiar with the Lower Shore area. My mom and I were not, but it was still very easy to find and there was plenty of parking along the main road. I was really skeptical at first since the exterior of the building looked something straight out of the 50s. However, once you walk in the door you are almost overwhelmed by the selection they have. What I really liked was how I was able to roam the store and look at things that were of interest to me -- mostly veils and headpieces without feeling pressured into one or the other. I bought my wedding dress in Boston (and certainly couldn't bring it with me on my trip to my parents' in Salisbury) but I had a picture of it and Mrs. Scher showed me what would work well with my dress. Mr. Scher and I then talked about some of the best kept secrets of Boston while my mom tried on dresses. My mom commented on how they worked with her to find a dress that worked well for her without having to compromise what was comfortable for her. They are a family business that is very customer-friendly. I would definitely recommend stopping by Scher's to find your wedding dress or at least just to get a feel for what works best for you. If you're looking for great service and great products, this is for you. Plus, the quantity and the variety of dresses available -- both wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and MOB dresses -- can't be beat. Ultimately my mom did not end up getting her MOB dress from her since she bought one she saw on a whim online from Dillards. But the experience at Scher's was awesome and my mom would definitely return if/when my brother gets married.

They more than make up for this with service and selection! It's also worth noting that Scher's is a family business which has been around for a few generations -- they know what they're doing. I got out of work early one afternoon, rounded up my mother-in-law "to be" and drove down. I spoke to Mr. Scher on the phone while on my way, and let him know what gowns I was interested in (I had a whole list of Alfred Angelo styles handy). He had them all pulled and hanging conveniently in one spot for me when I arrived! I wasn't at all sure what I wanted, and ended up trying on a few things twice. Mrs. Scher stayed with me at least an hour and a half AFTER CLOSING helping me try on gowns, and gave me advice and recommendations about what looked good on me. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the service. The selection at Scher's is phenomenal. The only place in Delmarva that might have more is up in Milford, DE. They have a bargain area on the 2nd floor, which unfortunately did not have much of a selection in gowns when I went. They also have lots of veils and shoes up there. Scher's also specializes in formal and party gowns and dresses. It's clearly a favorite for the prom crowd. It's also worth noting that my maid of honor (my only bridesmaid) and mother-in-law also found their gowns here. They were both pleased with the selection and service as well. They have an in-house seamstress to do alterations, and alterations are free when you buy a new gown.

We reached out to Jodie and the team prior to the pandemic and selected the venue March 2020. It was an outdoors venue that she had never personally worked but meet our wishes (outdoors, # of guests, sunset, etc). She knows all the caterers and wedding services in the area and quickly helped us down-select. She was able to quickly put together our dream team. We meet with Barefoot Beach Bride several times between March 2020 and the wedding date (May 2021). Each time, it was clear that the team took into consideration the prior discussions and matured the plan. Barefoot Beach Bride meet with our dream team (food, tent, venue, etc) the week before at the venue to ensure that everyone was coordinated. On the wedding day, there wasn't much for us (the bride and groom) to worry about as the team handled all the behind the scene details. The team even packed everything up at the end of the reception was it was we didn't have to worry. For reference: beach wedding (barefoot!), sunset, ~100 guests, ~$30k budget (entire wedding, includes clothing and gifts) Imagine a wedding with no drama and nothing forgotten. That's what you can get when you hire Jodie and the rest of the Barefoot Beach Bride team.

They assured me it was no problem, they would take it in. When discussing cost they never told me it would be increased due to being a plus size, which would have affected my choice greatly, had I known. When the dress was paid for and ready to be picked up, it was not taken in correctly. The bust did not fit at all and it made the dress unwearable. They blamed my weight but my weight had not changed. As I was seeing a specialist I had to be weighed and measured regularly. I had my measurements done the day I ordered the dress and again the day I went to pick up the dress. My measurements had stayed the same as did my weight. I wound up having to drop out of the wedding for personal reasons but even if I hadn't; the dress went unused or picked up as it was still not ready. I tried to give them the time to do the proper alterations but it is now June and the dress was never fixed. Their response "it was left alone for so long they just put it up". Mind you, it had already been paid for, and still had a deadline. I do not recommend giving this place your business as they are rude, and unprofessional.  They make costly mistakes and omissions, and do not care about their clientele.
