My mom and I took a ride down to Scher's since she heard it was "the place to go" when it came to everything related to wedding attire and she was searching for her Mother of the Bride dress. I called a couple days ahead of our planned visit to see if we needed to make an appointment, and I spoke to Mrs. Scher on the phone and I was told just to show up and they would take it from there. It's pretty easy to find if you are familiar with the Lower Shore area. My mom and I were not, but it was still very easy to find and there was plenty of parking along the main road. I was really skeptical at first since the exterior of the building looked something straight out of the 50s. However, once you walk in the door you are almost overwhelmed by the selection they have. What I really liked was how I was able to roam the store and look at things that were of interest to me -- mostly veils and headpieces without feeling pressured into one or the other. I bought my wedding dress in Boston (and certainly couldn't bring it with me on my trip to my parents' in Salisbury) but I had a picture of it and Mrs. Scher showed me what would work well with my dress. Mr. Scher and I then talked about some of the best kept secrets of Boston while my mom tried on dresses. My mom commented on how they worked with her to find a dress that worked well for her without having to compromise what was comfortable for her. They are a family business that is very customer-friendly. I would definitely recommend stopping by Scher's to find your wedding dress or at least just to get a feel for what works best for you. If you're looking for great service and great products, this is for you. Plus, the quantity and the variety of dresses available -- both wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and MOB dresses -- can't be beat. Ultimately my mom did not end up getting her MOB dress from her since she bought one she saw on a whim online from Dillards. Recently had a great experience purchasing my bridal gown at Scher's. The place doesn't look like much from the outside; it's in a very old building in Pocomoke City and very much in need of some updating. They more than make up for this with service and selection! It's also worth noting that Scher's is a family business which has been around for a few generations -- they know what they're doing. I got out of work early one afternoon, rounded up my mother-in-law "to be" and drove down. I spoke to Mr. Scher on the phone while on my way, and let him know what gowns I was interested in (I had a whole list of Alfred Angelo styles handy). He had them all pulled and hanging conveniently in one spot for me when I arrived! I wasn't at all sure what I wanted, and ended up trying on a few things twice. Mrs. Scher stayed with me at least an hour and a half AFTER CLOSING helping me try on gowns, and gave me advice and recommendations about what looked good on me. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the service. The selection at Scher's is phenomenal. The only place in Delmarva that might have more is up in Milford, DE. They have a bargain area on the 2nd floor, which unfortunately did not have much of a selection in gowns when I went. They also have lots of veils and shoes up there. Scher's also specializes in formal and party gowns and dresses. It's clearly a favorite for the prom crowd. It's also worth noting that my maid of honor (my only bridesmaid) and mother-in-law also found their gowns here. They were both pleased with the selection and service as well. I came here yesterday with my Mother In Law and one of my bridesmaids. As far as their selection goes, they do have a rather large amount of bridal dresses to choose from. But upon walking into store, I was too distracted by the clutter and the lackluster appearance. One of the associates, let's called her Kay, was too pushy for my taste; she kept introducing me to dresses that I found too plain or not in my style. I don't even know why Kay was out on the sales floor anyways when she claimed that she was the "woman that puts the pins in with the seamstresses." When I did find a couple of dresses to try on, I was walked to the tiny fitting rooms which could've doubled as linen closets. After finding a dress that I did like, the same pushy sales associate, Kay, kept saying that she tried to show me the dress before when I was browsing. She kept repeating that she's the one that found the dress and that it was her idea. This immediately put me off, so I walked out of the store empty-handed. The girl that helped me fit into my dresses, Angie, is great. I would give this place another try if they cleaned up their appearance. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Scher's. First, they were so down to Earth and helpful. The assistant that helped us (blonde wavy hair- can't remember her name!) was wonderful. She really listened to what my daughter was looking for in a wedding dress, and made every effort to find dresses that met the criteria. She was delightful to work with. We met the owners of the shop as well (husband and wife for 40+ years!) and they were so sweet. We left to go to another appointment at a different bridal shop, then decided we wanted to go back to Scher's to look at their dresses again. My daughter called at around 4:30, and even though they were about to close, they told us to come on back in! The owner and her husband helped us, and made us feel like part of the family. We left there around 7:30, well after they closed!!! They made us feel so welcome!!! We found the perfect dress there. Another amazing feature- all of the alterations are all INCLUDED! My brother got married this past Saturday. Exactly one week before that, there was a fire in the store caused by a steamer shorting out. My brother's fiance found out about this through a post on facebook, in which they said damage was minimal and all upcoming weddings would not be affected. Her dress, as well as 3 bridesmaids dresses were in the shop. She was told over a text that everything was being sent out to a cleaning place that specializes in smoke smell removal, but not to be concerned. The following day (Tuesday), I got curious and suspicious because of the clearly intentional vague answers and dodging questions, so I called. The skirts on all 3 bridesmaids dresses were completely melted and they were completely remaking them. The bodices were undamaged. The wedding dress was not sent out for cleaning and in her words, "It's 95% ok". My follow up questions were not clearly answered. I asked "WHY have you not told her any of this????" Response: we didn't want to upset the bride. My response: dumbest thing I've ever heard. Her next comments were how it was mine and the other girls responsibility to rally around her and make sure this doesn't ruin her day. The next morning the bride was to go in at 9 am and they called and asked if she could do 11 instead, they were still steaming everything. When she arrived, the dresses were not steamed and the rouching was not pressed. Then they show her the wedding dress. Supposed to be a champagne color with lace overlay. Entire thing is GRAY and under the lace, the lining looked as if it had been raked across a charcoal grill. The owners wife said, "YOU NEED TO PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE, AT LEAST YOUR CHILD WASN'T EATEN BY AN ALLIGATOR". So appropriate to pull a tragic current event and use it as a comparison. She asked if the floor model she tried on originally was still there. This hadn't occurred to them. They went and got it and it fit beautifully, just needed some small adjustments. They said they would finish steaming everything, to the adjustments and meet us 1/2 way the next day (the wedding was an hour or so from the shop). The next day, around 1, we still hadn't heard from them so we called and he said he could still do it if we really needed, but he wasn't sure what time. (Rehearsal was to begin at 5). Set a time, got the dresses. Still not pressed. Immediately noticed the side of my dress had a large melted spot on the side. Tried it on and a button fell off as I was zipping it. The zipper was sewn crooked and the fabric was puckered and made the zipper into an S shape and poked out at the bottom. I called. I was given advice to rip the seam of the undermost layer to release it from pulling. Didn't work. I called again. She became agitated and asked what I wanted from her. "do you want me to sew it over the phone??" "we had a FIRE, people will understand!!" "you need to focus on what's important and that's being with your family". Yes, i understand there was a fire. Yes, I understand accidents happen and that things cant' always be put right with a short amount of time. It's how you handle it and how you treat your customers. The wedding was beautiful and perfect, despite the anxiety and rage leading up to it. Most importantly, no one got eaten by an alligator. read more

We visited several bridal boutiques before finding Scher's. My daughter selected a beautiful gown and veil. Mr. and Mrs. Scher were so pleasant and helpful as was their staff. I'm giving this one star because I can't put in zero. It was horrible I've been to this store twice ones was my sophomore year I needed a dress for prom. I went in it was okay. I got an okay dress and that was the end of that. when I went back in my junior year I was called fat about a ten times by the owner of the store (a much larger women than me ) I was the same size i had been the year before. I have very large breasts but I am not fat (I have double D's a small waist and big hips I'm brasilian it's in my genes ) . When I first walked in she ( the owner) looked at me turned to her co-worker and said 15....I am not a size 15. dint phase me to much I know people think I need a large size because of my boobs I picked out a couple of dresses with my mom and put them in the dressing room and started to try them on the women came in when I was naked without asking and said "no no no these will not work" took all the sizes 8/10/12 dresses that I had picket out to try and replaced them with a bunch of horrible dresses that were all quite ugly and way to big. I remembered these dresses from the year before so this women (by this women I mean the owner!!!) was trying to sell me ugly over sized dresses that she could not sell. i only kept one dress (size 12) I requested that the original dresses I had wanted would be put back. I started trying dresses on all the ones I had picket out the owner had some comment to say "that washes you out" "you lose all your shape in that one " you get the point . She continued with side conversations of "are you a soda drinker you look like a soda drinker" I said "no I am not a soda drinker (I had cut soda completely out for 3 years at that point) I drink juice sometimes " she responded with" oh the juice will get to you with all that sugar. You really need to take care of yourself my kids are great at taking care of themselves and etc" I was just left standing their like did she really say I'm unhealthy when she has no idea about what I eat other than I sometimes drink juice. When I came out with the only dress she had given me of course she was like "wow so beautiful that is the one it slims you down that's the one" . Me and my mom just kept starring at each other because this dress made me look huge, It did wash me out and was not the best dress, I liked the color so I put the dress on hold and left . On my way out she said you know for such a picky person you came in really late to get your dress (3 months in advanced) . I was like yeah I've been telling my friend that she needs to get one. Oh but if your friend isn't as big as you she won't have a problem. At that point I walked out into my moms car and looked at her and said did that really just happen. I hate this place now I decided I would not give them any more business I asked my mom to call and cancel the hold . Overall this place is old and outdated. Not only that but the owner is disgustingly rude. Some of the other stories I've heard we're that someone went in their for a weeding dress and when the owner saw she had a tattoo on her left shoulder she told her she would look hideous on anything because of her tattoo . This place is just not okay . Don't got here I went to Dryden in Salisbury this year and they were amazing. They had said they have heard stories like this scenes they went to prom. read more

**The consultants are just as horrible as the facility. My friends and I went to Scher's in search of prom gowns because we had no luck at a few other boutiques we went to. After driving two hours to get to Pokomoke we found they had a very average and limited selection, and that many of the prom gowns were ripped and broken, but we pulled some anyway to try them out. They stuck myself and two of my friends in one tattered dressing room with a towel on the window to prevent leaks. The entire time we were trying on dresses, the consultants continually pestered us to take any dresses that had already been tried on. We understood that it was busy so we agreed and just asked that they did not remove the dresses that we were considaring to buy. Apparently, the woman couldnt understand english in her haste, and took the dress that I personally was about to buy and gave it to another girl in the store without telling me. When I questioned where it went, the lady ignored my question and left. At that point I was fed up, and went to find it on the rack, only to my dismay another girl was wearing it. I sought out the ignorant woman once more, where she acted like she knew nothing about it and asked "IF I EVEN FIT IN THE DRESS ANYWAY" (Keep in mind I start 2 varsity sports and am between sizes 0 and 2). She tried to make up for it by getting me the dress back, but I took a picture of the tag and searched it online instead. Lastly, she was relentless trying to show me more dresses after that incident, even after I told her I favored more elegant gowns to her gaudy, discoball-looking choices. It was a horrible experience, I find Claire's in Wilmington Delaware to be a far superiour store that has more respect for both their customers and the dresses that they sell. Though I was married years ago, living over the bridge, since I've lived in the area I have ALWAYS referred all friends and family to Scher's! I wish we would've had a place with such a large selection, reasonable prices and excellent customer service. DC area boutiques snubbed you if you weren't going to spend at least 4K on a gown and their selections were minuscule. Scher's can order you a $10k gown or one for a few hundred... And they treat you the same. Down home charm, warm, courteous... It's like you have an instantaneous family when you visit Scher's! Perhaps most importantly, the Scher's are "givers." They have always been tremendous community partners.. And I personally know of several situations where the Scher's GAVE girls prom dresses when they couldn't afford their own. The Scher's are true community servants and we are so fortunate to have them on the Eastern Shore. read more
