Yes - you'll think to yourself, why am I spending 10+ euros on almonds?? Trust me, it is a glorious experience!! I wish I brought more home. They seem to last quite a while so these would be great gifts to bring back (if you can resist eating them all yourself)! I also tried both milk and dark chocolate truffles which were so good. Heading down towards Rive to catch the tram home, I noticed it and decided to give it a shot. And we've never looked back! My mum, like me, is particularly fond of good quality dark chocolate with subtle but interesting flavours, and for those, La Bonbonniere is the best we've ever found. The chocolate truffles and pralines are amazingly good quality, with rich and deep tastes that mean that one is enough, but you can always manage a second if it's on offer! I've also had the chance to try some of their dark chocolate bars, and the quality of those was equally impressive. Not the cheapest of chocolaterie in Geneva - but by no means the most expensive, and, in my opinion at least, one of the very best in terms of quality for money.

I knew I needed to visit a legitimate chocolatier. Rohr came highly recommended as a Swiss brand, and the shop was convenient to the tram. It's a small shop (watch out if you're carrying a backpack!), but absolutely packed with gorgeous and fragrant confections. The window was filled with chocolate cauldrons and marzipan veggies, since we were visiting close to L'Escalade. I wanted to buy one so badly, but didn't think it'd make it home - it'd be a shame if I had to eat it myself. The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful to me and my companions. I largely picked out chocolate bars because they are easy to take home without damage (though be careful taking a big stack through security - they'll look like a bomb on X-ray!) and they had fabulous flavors - dark and milk chocolate with fillings like orange, pistachio, lemon, hazelnuts, etc. They also had some extra-special bars of fancy chocolate bars, some single origin and some with special fillings. I bought a big stack! I also had to buy a few special items. I picked out a little chocolate bear, who turned out to be filled with something creamy and crunchy and chocolatey. I got some of their praline bars. I picked up a jar of caramel sauce with fleur de sel (which I plan to put on crepes). And... I bought a chocolate trash can. Yes, a trash can - Rohr is known for its "Poubelles Genevoises," which are literally cast to look like Geneva's trash cans. They have them in small individual boxes, perfect for gift-giving. Per US standards, this is very expensive chocolate. In Switzerland... it seemed to be on the average-to-expensive side. But everything I've tried so far has been excellent. And when one of the international flight crew saw my little red bag in the airport, they said, "Oooh, Rohr? That's great chocolate!" That's how you know you've chosen well.

They offer an assortment of beautiful chocolates such as pralines and truffles. I went straight for the tablets and of course the dark chocolate type. I brought a big stack home of Madagascar 64%, Grand Cru Ecuador 70%, and Trinidad 80%. They were the most I've spent on a chocolate bar, but I wanted great Swiss chocolate. Next time I'm in Switzerland, I'm going to make one of my days a chocolate crawl.

The location is inside of a department store so not the easiest to spot from the street although their window is street facing. I purchased a box of 15 for my family of five. We tried several different flavors and all were delicious. Unlike a macaron these are bite size and very airy. If you limit yourself to three you'll be craving more. Also unlike a macaron these will not travel well. These are meant to be enjoyed right away. A box of 15 cost about 17 CHF. I'm not sure you can find these anywhere but Geneva so make sure to stop in and try some.

You eat the stuff and you're like, "omg, I can die right now". The flavors melt in your mouth and leave very pleasant aftertaste that effervesces with you for several minutes afterwards... Even better, pair the chocolate with wine (or I brought some back to the U.S. and paired the chocolate with bourbon - and this was fantastic!) While we are on the subject, did I mention its organic, eco-friendly chocolate. No bad thAng, thAngs in it. All natural. No preservatives... all that stuff.
