Excellent chocolates, intense yet balanced. A lot of different tastes.

This place is amazing…read more Is it the best chocolate shop in Geneva or even Carouge? I couldn't tell you. There is an awful lot of awesome chocolate in Switzerland. However - this place gave me one orgasmic thrill after another ... which is not what usually happens when I go to a restaurant - even a dessert restaurant. Non-stop rock your socks off pleasure tends to make me want to come back to a place. :.) The place is quaint cute and charming - but there is plenty of that in Switzerland if you look for it. For me - above and beyond the normal "every piece of candy makes me want to die and go to heaven" business ... there is the question of the hot chocolate - i.e. cocoa - i.e. chocolate brewed up in hot milk. i have had many impressive hot chocolate drinks in my time - from the "pure hot fudge sauce" that they serve as hot chocolate in barcelona - to the submarinos (melted chocolate bars in milk) that they do in argentina and france. as little kid amazing as those drinks are - the Martel hot chocolate is one special kind of beverage. there is almost no sugar in the Martel hot chocolate. So you get just the flavor of very very good swiss milk. (and swiss milk really is superior. it is the milk quality that is the secret behind swiss chocolate). PLUS the flavor of pure cacao - almost like eating an 85% chocolate bar. This is a mature serious cup of hot chocolate - more like drinking a wine than having a cocoa. I loved every nanosecond of it. And yes - the chocolate candies are totally addictive as well. The place is mobbed by locals and rightfully so. It is a wonderful place.

The baked goods are diving here, but this time I ordered a fromage quiche instead, very good. Wait staff is friendly and the place is clean and cozy. Its open on Sundays which is very nice since most places are closed on Sundays.

I knew that I'd be shunned if I returned from a trip to Switzerland without chocolate! Though it…read morewas tempting to get everyone a bar of Migros budget chocolate, just to prove that even store-brand chocolate in Europe is vastly superior to US chocolate... I knew I needed to visit a legitimate chocolatier. Rohr came highly recommended as a Swiss brand, and the shop was convenient to the tram. It's a small shop (watch out if you're carrying a backpack!), but absolutely packed with gorgeous and fragrant confections. The window was filled with chocolate cauldrons and marzipan veggies, since we were visiting close to L'Escalade. I wanted to buy one so badly, but didn't think it'd make it home - it'd be a shame if I had to eat it myself. The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful to me and my companions. I largely picked out chocolate bars because they are easy to take home without damage (though be careful taking a big stack through security - they'll look like a bomb on X-ray!) and they had fabulous flavors - dark and milk chocolate with fillings like orange, pistachio, lemon, hazelnuts, etc. They also had some extra-special bars of fancy chocolate bars, some single origin and some with special fillings. I bought a big stack! I also had to buy a few special items. I picked out a little chocolate bear, who turned out to be filled with something creamy and crunchy and chocolatey. I got some of their praline bars. I picked up a jar of caramel sauce with fleur de sel (which I plan to put on crepes). And... I bought a chocolate trash can. Yes, a trash can - Rohr is known for its "Poubelles Genevoises," which are literally cast to look like Geneva's trash cans. They have them in small individual boxes, perfect for gift-giving. Per US standards, this is very expensive chocolate. In Switzerland... it seemed to be on the average-to-expensive side. But everything I've tried so far has been excellent. And when one of the international flight crew saw my little red bag in the airport, they said, "Oooh, Rohr? That's great chocolate!" That's how you know you've chosen well.

Had to get a taste of this famous swiss chocolate! There are many different types of chocolate bars (fairly large) for 11+ Swiss Francs, but interesting because the cacao is from different countries all over the world. There is also a small selection of pastries and ice cream. Our worker was very nice. Accepts payment in Swiss Francs and Euros with contactless payment. We even got a sample of that day's special: toffee with almond in chocolate.

We are reviewing this location: Rue du Rhône 17, 1204 Genève, Switzerland…read more We experienced terrible customer service here from Tyna. Tyna was super rude and did not explain the chocolates to us despite us asking. Tyna then asked us to leave our table and said save it for customers with drinks, despite the empty store. Tyna yelled at us for not closing the door behind us and was passive aggressive the entire time. Would not come here if I were you. Do not recommend this place. Chocolates looked average at best and were OPEN, not even in closed containers. I wonder how long they have been sitting out with people coughing on them. How yucky and unsanitary. Tyna also pushed us right out the door the second we received our chocolates. Seemed very annoyed the entire time. Unfriendly and rude Tyna.
