Feb 2020 This was the second coffee shop I visited in my quest to find coffee and seating on Presidents' Day. It's a cute spot on the corner and had seating alongside one wall with plants and a table by the entrance for adding all the things to your cup of joe. There was one guy at the counter when we arrived, so we got lattes and a couple baked goods. The seating had cushions which is fantastic and enough outlets to work throughout the day. It can get got as the seats are right up against the window, but there is seating closer to the bathroom that doesn't have sun beaming in. The coffee and baked goods were delicious. I ordered a tumeric latte which the right amount of sweet. We stayed all morning and actually ordered more baked goods to see us through lunch time. I'll definitely come back to spend my morning here once COVID restrictions lift. Until then, I'll just order to go. read more

Walked to this spot early Saturday morning looking for a basic breakfast. A very helpful menu is off the corner displaying all sandwich options in an easily-readable format. Decided to keep it simple and got the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on wheat bread ($5), as well as a Nutella Latte ($4ish). Got a stool at the window, then 15 minutes roll by and realized they had semi-forgotten my order. Not that big of a deal as everything was ready 5 minutes later. Sandwich is fairly basic but made well, wish there was more bacon. Nutella drink wasn't too sweet and easy to drink (thankfully they gave me a to-go cup). Overall this place is a solid breakfast joint for the area. Service can be a bit slow depending on the crowd, so don't come in a hurry. read more

Cypress Inn is wonderful! I live nearby and love grabbing a bagel sandwich on a lazy day. The interior is really fun and funky. Lots of cool spooky decorations and board games. It's the place to go if you want to spend an afternoon working with a great coffee and snack. I know they were closed for a while during COVID but they are back up and running, so go support this business! It's a classic Ridgewood spot. read more

Cypress Inn Cafe just opened and I'm a huge fan! Coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, free wifi, and it gets excellent winter sun at that corner spot on Stanhope/Cypress. Counter Culture coffee and a knish this morning set me right up. I have yet to explore the lunch but the avocado/tomato on toast looked great. So happy to find this gem. I just moved to Ridgewood an decided to check out some local spots. This Cafe being the first on my list to try, I wasn't disappointed in this decision. Once I walked in, the vibe of the cafe felt like a thrown together home, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, It actually works here. I love how they are into Classic Monster flicks, from posters to bobble head dolls. The music selection was also amazing and at a listen and not overly loud volume. The sweet spot. The cafe is ran by Vinny and his wife (I apologize, I've forgotten to ask your name) and are lovely people. Their children were hanging out, and Vinny's mother also had popped in! I was there all of a few minutes and I already felt like I was a part of the family. Let's talk about the food, all the sandwiches are made to order and executed amazingly. Vinnys wife is on point with how to craft the food. She takes the extra steps to make sure each part is done right. I had the Sundried tomato, mozzarella and spinach sandwich with a side of hot pickles. It was well balanced and the pesto wasn't over bearing (which happens a lot). I also has the Peanut butter, Nutella and Banana sandwich. Also was kickass. All in all. This will become a regular spot for me in the future. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu and taking advantage of the combo deal (sandwich and coffee). Maybe even try to make time to come by on movie night! Great food guys. read more

Visiting from Seattle; the world capital of coffee snobbery. This place has a fantastic soy latte. The foam was a bit large-bubbled and not quite as velvety as some might prefer. However, the roast was dark and full-bodied without tasting burnt. It seems to be a small business ran by a mother and daughter. The service was quick and polite. I had a wrap version of the chicken burger. Simple yet delicious. They offered free wifi and didn't seem to be bothered that I sat for an hour and worked on my computer. It's a really chill place to grab a quick bit and the coffee is amazing. They have a variety of teas as well. Cypress Inn Cafe is super rad. The walls and shelves are adorned with old school pictures of the owner's mother and horror flick swag. It's a bit of a hike from the train, but definitely worth it! Sit back and enjoy your coffee with delicious desserts (the chocolate bread is awesome) or savory empanadas (go for the Mac & Cheese). They've also got sandwiches and tons of vegetarian friendly options. Last time we went on the weekend, we were also given free mimosas! Can't get better than that. They also screen movies during the week, check out their Facebook page for upcoming flicks. All-in-all, a great and quiet place to spend your afternoon. First time I came here was their first week of being open. It's been several years now and I'm a regular. Owners changed two times but the food is so so good. Mony is the best ever and I love coming when she's there (I like others too but she is amazing, this place would probably have to close down if she was to leave) I tell her all my secrets too. They're still cash only but the prices are very reasonable so it's not really a problem. And there is an ATM inside. I recommend the turkey pesto sandwich, everything bagel with hummus, avocado, tomatoes and fig glaze, everything bagel with ham, egg and cheese. Those are my favorites. read more

The owners went above and beyond to take care of us and our little one. They made food just for the kiddo and even worked to keep her entertained. Cypress has expanded their menu dramatically, which is great to see. But this does mean it may not be the best place to stop in if you only have five minutes and want to get a bagel and coffee. They are very popular and it does take a few extra minutes to get food, but hey, stop at a Starbucks or Variety if you want to walk in and out. This place is a neighborhood gem. I am here 1-4 times a week depending on my work schedule, and I always recommend it to anyone hanging out in the area. Actually this is one of my fav base places nearby home, walk several blocks from where I live, free wifi, not bad breakfast, sandwiches, also iced coffee, could wake me up and spend my whole day here, doing with my online shop and other stuff. I really love this spot. It's on my walk to the subway in the morning but aside from convenience, it has a ton going for it. For starters, the old hollywood horror movie theme is the best. The decor in general is warm and cozy, the baristas are all ridiculously nice, and the food is delicious. Also, I'm pretty sure they have a movie night, or what looks like a movie night from outside while I walk home. Random side story: One morning they didn't have change for a $20 but they let me have my my cappuccino anyway and just trusted me to swing by on my way home or on another day to settle up. Cypress Inn Café is the most friendly, warm coffee shop I have been to in the whole of NYC since chancing upon Norma's. I'd passed by Cypress Inn on the border of Ridgewood/Bushwick a few times but finally chose to try it out as, frankly, other local cafés are getting overrun with customer MacBooks. This place is only a couple blocks back from the main drag of the neighborhood, and what a fantastic café! The people who I assume are the owners greeted me with a smile and eye contact despite the place being busy. Service was equally amiable and the menu blackboards had so many sandwich variants (many vegan and healthy) that I didn't know what to choose! It was so reasonably priced for two coffees that I thought I had been undercharged! They use Counter Culture coffee which tasted lush and was well-made. I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by the chatter and warmth of the customers! The whole café was full of people actually chinwagging and there were only brief moments when laptops were out. I guess it says a lot about the local coffee shops that I'm more used to people sitting silently looking at screens. Apparently they do film nights too (Wednesdays). There's free wifi but my Optimum tuned in by itself so I don't know how good their own is. The music was retro, christmassy and unobtrusive. I recommend Cypress Inn highly if you enjoy café culture, you know, like it used to be. I think I'll have to become a regular. read more

Be warned though, if your are a Starbucks chum looking for a grande skinny Latte on the quick then go stuff yourself and take it elsewhere. This is probably the best coffee shop in the area (the bar is not set very high my the mediocre Milk & Pull and Varsity Roasters). It is also very unpretentious and unpolished (unlike, all that over-designed crap we are seeing these days... oh wow, your menu uses Din, but your coffee tastes like vitiated water). This place is a hodgepodge of horror movie figurines eclectic posters and old wooden furniture. The guy who owns this place is really nice and so are the other guys who work there. The food they make is pretty good, but sometimes comes out a little slow because they are all working with one panini press. Their little empanadas are tasty. There are plenty of sandwiches available for people who do not eat the meat. The food is not the best in the world, but it tastes homemade and nice. Sometimes it is a little crowded so it could be a little hard to get a seat. Overall, this is a pleasant place to have a cup of coffee and panini in. Stopped by this lovely cafe for a morning cup of coffee and decided to order the granola parfait as well. This was part of the $5 combo special, a great deal. I have to go straight into talking about the parfait because it was truly perfect. Silky plain yogurt with the most amazing granola- perfectly crunchy and sweet with bits of cashews and pumpkin seeds, a hint of cinnamon, and sliced bananas of course. I'd like to return and try the breakfast empanadas, but I suspect I will be stuck on the parfait for a while. As far as the coffee, perfectly brewed Counter Culture coffee. The ambiance is nice, an eclectic mix of paintings, Buddhas, a painting of the Last Supper, and Frankenstein figurines. When I was there, Louie Armstrong and other jazzy favorites playing at the perfect volume whether you're reading, chatting, or just daydreaming. A great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Somehow, even though I've only been here a handful of times, I still get the feeling like I'm coming to a familiar spot. The staff is nothing but friendly, and very helpful. The owner and his wife also work behind the counter much of the time, so you know they care. The food, although much of which caters to the vegetarian and vegan crowd, there is plenty for everyone. From Rubens and Chicken Pesto sandwiches, to veggie burgers and tempeh, to brownies and cakes. All of which are delicious. I've even been told on good authority that their lattes are some of the best around. I don't drink coffee so can't say firsthand, but I can vouch for their tea and iced tea selection. The decor is a mix of art, tattoo, classic movies, Frankenstein, and a parent's fridge. Everywhere you turn there is something for your eye to enjoy. And although I haven't yet made it to a Wed night movie night, I am planning too. Additionally, they have a $5 special where you get a drink and a meal, so not only is it somewhere comfortable, friendly, and having great food, it's also an excellent spot for a bite on the cheap. The guys behind the counter, whom I can only assume is the owner, is quite congenial. He always makes the Turkey w/ pesto into a salad for me and tops it off with some other freshly made salads.
