I decided to give this place a try when I needed a different exercise modality after a running injury. I'd done a few spin classes with a gym years ago and enjoyed it. My planet fitness membership doesn't offer them so this was my only option nearby. I'm glad I found it. The place is disconcertinly small - 11 bikes - and there's a bike in front of you literally as soon as you step through the door. But its a very nice facilty and the bikes are great. They have wireless computers on them that track your rpms and watts and such. The instructor tells you what gear to be in and what watts or rpms to get to at any given time, and they can monitor how you do on a tablet. So no slacking off! If you prefer anonyminity, this may not be the place for you. But if you really need a place that will push you to your limits, then it's great. I've been to two classes - the first was really fun, great music, got a killer workout and the instructor was all positive "you got this!!" - type feedback throughout. For the second class, the instructor decided to do intervals. This was less fun, but mostly because it was a brutal workout and with her monitoring your output on the tablet, you could get called out if you weren't working hard enough. (Not in a bad way, but with suggestions.) I personally didn't really care for that aspect - this being only my second time and definitely not in true spinning shape - it was very difficult if not impossible to meet the level I was told to acheive. But I'll admit it did keep me working as hard as I could - and isn't that the point? I'm gonna keep going to classes, but I'm going to hope there aren't as many interval ones in my future. The classes are not cheap. Maybe I'm out of touch, and things like SoulCycle or whatnot just cost this much, but is enough to make me pause. You are paying for a "boutique" class though, with free towels and water and personalized attention. But if you're just looking for a basic place to spin, and if you want to do other types of exercise too, you might get more for your money by joining a gym that offers spinning classes. The place is convenient to get to, with the metro and a garage nearby, and street parking as well. Since the classes are small, if you've got limited times you can go I suggest you book your spot well in advance - 2 weeks is the earliest. read more

When it came to defeating the 20 year addiction to nicotine, [prescription medicine] made it possible, but CycledMD made it a lifestyle change! For months I struggled and with gentle encouragement moved from 15 minutes of meaningful peddling (at -2 resistance) to my first completed class within 4 months to now averaging 12+ miles per 45 minute sessions!!! All hail Ryan -- the Master of the Bike Class. I point out Ryan because I think he's an all-around great leader. He knows how to spot a rider who is struggling versus a rider who is merely "slacking." He looks out for his class. Ryan's class is best for those who wish to increase their strength and endurance under burden. Not a whole lot of time at break-neck speeds but a lot of time at high levels of resistance. And just when you can't believe the class can get any more grueling, he remembers the hand-weights!!! By the end of his 45 minute class, you will be "done!" Of course, that's exactly why we want his classes!!! That being said, honorable mentions are due to Shayla, Will and Montrell (possibly but not necessarily in that order depending upon your needs.) Now if you are looking for speed monsters, I would suggest Shayla and Montrell. Apparently it is possible to go for 2-3 minutes at 140 RPM at medium resistance. (I can't do it -- "yet", but apparently it's possible!!) Will is somewhere in the middle. His main emphasis is proper form. He "seems" so friendly when the class begins and during warm-ups, and then the peddling starts in earnest! If you are not sure on what are your goals, start with Will. By the end of his class, you will know your needs! -- William read more

Although I am a conditioned athlete (running, hiking, kick-boxing soccer, weight-lifting) I have never done spin or cycling before. Boy, was it a work-out; a challenge, but super fun! The staff was great; Shayla was super welcoming and helpful, and Michel was an awesome instructor. He pushed us to the limits, but was very aware of each cyclist and individualized the program to the needs of each person. Don't get me wrong though, he WILL NOT let you wimp out. The whole ride I was thinking...ahh I hate this...but really it was fun and a killer workout. Afterwards, of course, I loved it! The music is hip-hop, you ride to the beats/tempo. Anyone who is really into music or gets pumped off of good beats will enjoy. The studio is very clean and equipment is new and modern. The studio location is hard to find if you do not know downtown Silver Spring. It is on a back road across from Quarry House, next to the bus depot and at the bottom of an apartment building. Fun. different workout to add to your repertoire of fitness. Would suggest doing it with a group of friends! read more

Had my first experience at Cycled! last Tuesday, October 9th. With Shawn as our instructor, the experience was unbelievably exhilarating! I was definitely not the fittest person there, and I could not keep up at times because of how long it's been since I've last worked out (about a year), but there was not one moment when I felt out of place, or like I wanted to quit. On the contrary, this first experience made me want more! I have a habit of working out for a long period of time and then falling off the wagon. I'm glad to say this was the push I needed to get back on the wagon and become a healthier, fitter version of myself. I already booked my next classes! Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun workout experience that helps you want to keep going! read more

I had my first ride yesterday with Cycled and was so hooked that I came back the very next morning (today) for another dose of the most refreshing work out experience in DMV. The studio is conveniently located off Georgia Avenue and has an invigorating atmosphere. The instructors are inspiring and play the latest jams. Most importantly, the equipment is new & the changing area is clean & inviting whether you take an am or pm class. This workout boutique is modern & has all the bells & whistles that the top 1% need to feel good about themselves. As an added perk, Shayla has offsite special events that all riders are welcomed to attend. Cycled and Shayla are blessing to the community. Oh yeah, try the juice too. read more

Went to a great class on Tuesday where Trell was the instructor. The studio was very clean, comfortable, and convenient. The class was a great size (~10 people) and the music was incredibly motivating! Trell was one of the best instructors I've had - challenging routine, but he did the whole thing with us. He gave helpful feedback, helped everyone get set up, and was very approachable. I have been to the Takoma Park studio many times but enjoyed the Silver Spring one just as much. At the end of class, they email you your results and while it's not competitive throughout the class, you get to see how you did compare to others. Very motivating! read more

I love spin classes, especially those that play hip hop music. This was my first time at Cycled and I was greeted by Shalya upon entry with a "good morning" and smile. The instructor showed me where the restroom and lockers were before setting me up on the bike and ensuring I knew how to use the bike. The class began with a sitting warm up and quickly migrated into the workout. Music from artists I enjoy such as Beyonce and Rihanna played as we did jumps, hills, sprints, and even arm work. I began sweating during the warmup and didn't stop until we were cooling down. I loved every minute of the class and plan to return next week. read more

I absolutely LOVE this studio! I recently took a class with Ryan, and he was THE best!! He is extremely personable, motivating and engaging. Ryan is clearly a skilled cyclist/instructor, and his interval ride will definitely get your heart rate up (like, way up). Several times during the class, I felt like I couldn't pedal any further, but he was right there encouraging me to push harder and keep going! Not to mention his playlist is sick AND he accepts song requests!!! Bottom line, it's a bright, clean and fun studio! Also, they offer complimentary towels and bottled water. If you haven't checked Cycled out, you're missing out!!! read more

It doesn't get much better than this place! As a returning cycler (I hadn't been on a bike in TWO YEARS, since having my second child), I was nervous - yet excited - to get back in the saddle. I stumbled upon CYCLED after a quick internet search and signed up for Ryan's In and Out class. I was impressed by the intimate and friendly environment the staff have created - and the facilities and amazing! The class was tough, yet fun, energetic and made me SWEAT! Came wait to come back for more. Also love the online booking system and the emailed summaries of my workout/ride - very awesome added touch! read more

I'd never done a spin class before, and decided to try a 12 pm class. Shayla is so friendly, and gave me the short little tour around the studio. The studio is cozy and clean with a nice shower and vanity area if you need to clean up before you leave. The workout was fun, but really intense. You are supposed to go at your own intensity level, and I think I pushed myself too hard at the beginning. Halfway through the class, I was exhausted. If it's your first time, don't push yourself too hard! I'm definitely looking forward to taking another class here! read more

In the last week I have tried three different instructors, all have been great. The class size is really nice, with a max of 9 people. Everyone is upbeat and positive, all of the other clients seem to have been coming for a while. I can't decide which of the instructors I liked best, because they were all so good and came at it from different angles. Kicked my butt each time, but I will keep coming back for more. It is nice to have such a personalized workout instead of a more corporate cattle drive. Really happy to have Cycled! in Silver Spring. read more

I loved CYCLED so much. I was a long time spin fan, but I took a very long break due to injury, and this was a great re-introduction. Shayla was so much fun-- super bubbly and sweet, but also tough and motivating. I loved her music choices! Definitely one of the more difficult spin classes I've taken (I mean that in the best way :) ). But there were amazing smelling candles, and they gave me water after I ran out of my own (insufficient) supply! I love that we now have a cool spin studio in downtown Silver Spring! I'll definitely be back! read more

I am so happy about this place. It was a dreary, rainy Saturday morning. i parked easily, was greeted by a really sweet intern and then made to feel at home by Ryan. Ryan was an excellent instructor. He motivates and pushes you and at the same time is totally supportive to the newbies. The studio is spotless, the bikes are in great condition, and I loved getting my stats at the end of the session. The music was phenomenal and I am going back for sure! We need one in Takoma Park but for now it only takes 7 minutes to get there. read more

Cycled! is an adorable boutique studio with an amazing instructor - Lindsay Lewis. I've taken many cycling classes where you're one in a group of fast pedaling and loud music, with no actual "teaching." Lindsay was so conscientious about each cycler's positioning and posture, encouraging a ride that was not only fun, but safe on the body as well. The music volume perfect, so Lindsay didn't need to yell into a microphone...another huge plus. The whole experience was top-notch! I highly recommend cycled!...and Lindsay Lewis. Enjoy ;) read more

This spin class was perfect as a cyclist trying to get back into a workout regimen. I used to attend spin classes weekly and cycle for exercise and transportation, but I had lapsed for a few months after moving to a new city. My instructor, Tamera, provided a perfect balance of inspiring, challenging, and accomodating; she leads a class that would motivate cyclists of any level. The bikes record your RPM and kcal data so you can track your progress from session to session, and the studio provides water, showers, and lockers. read more

I first learned of Cycled when they did an event at my church. I was super excited to learn they were located in the downtown Silver Spring area - just a short walk from the metro. The studio is cozy and clean. Shayla was my instructor and her energy was amazing! Equally important, the playlist rocked! I like my music to match my workout and she did not disappoint. They even provide everyone with a towel to wipe the sweat, because you will sweat a lot. Overall, a great workout, high intensity, and fun! I'll be back! read more

Peer pressure brought me out to this class on the 4th of July. I had never taken a cycling class before, so my expectations were pretty low. I was pleasantly surprised though, it was a great workout! Montrell was an awesome instructor. His music selection was kept us engaged and energized. There was complementary bottled water (thank God) and towels. Nice and small class size (about 8 people total) and the post workout summary email I got was very detailed. I will definitely go again (after investing in some bike shorts). read more

I'm fairly new to cycling, and was excited to try this studio since it's in such a great location. I went to a 6am class, and was definitely struggling, but I felt amazing afterwards. It helped that instructor was so awesome. She encouraged me (and everyone) to keep going and try harder. The music mix was great. I love how they seem to tailor the music to the class, and even asked for requests. The studio is tiny, and SUPER clean. It's also nice that the bikes don't need those special shoes like some other places. read more

I went to my first class at Cycled yesterday afternoon and loved it! This was my first time in an actual cycling class. The instructor was very motivating and upbeat which kept me and my friend going the entire 45 minutes during the session. The studio itself is absolutely adorable - it is very intimate and has a nice relaxed vibe to it. You can tell time was taken to set it up in a way that people would feel very comfortable and at home. Overall the class was fun, exciting and I will be coming back for more! read more
