This is how it all started... A friend told me about a cycling class in a convenient area around downtown Silver Spring. I decide to give it a try and compare it to another cycling class closer to me in D.C. I was semi shocked when I saw that there was only ten student bikes in the room. I instantly thought unlike other classes there'd no slacking off when it gets tough; you WILL be noticed! Our instructor, Trell, was kind, encouraging, tough and had a kick ass playlist! By the time the 40 minute class was over I was drenched in sweat, legs just barely standing strong, but the feeling of knowing I pushed through was very rewarding. The class also adds a bit of self competition by sending you an email upon completion with your personal health stats like calories burned and avg/max RPM and even your rank in the class of 10 based on the stats. I would definitely recommend Cycled especially if you thrive in smaller more personal group class settings!

After a fun filled class @ cycled with the owner!

Upon entering, I was greeted at the front desk. She checked me in and gave me a quick tour of the facility. The place was cute (lots of pink) and clean. The instructor set me up on a bike and we were ready to go. Unfortunately I think my seat was a little too high, so it was uncomfortable for the duration of the ride. I was also a little put off because when I was first getting on my bike, there was an issue with tightening the foot straps and it took another person in the class to try to fix it for the instructor to get up and help me. I removed one star for that. The class itself was cool. It wasn't too hard, but slightly challenging.

The front desk staff can be hit or miss--sometimes they're helpful, other times unresponsive. It's probably the most affordable gym in the area, but also likely the worst LA Fitness within a 20-mile radius. I've been to four others nearby, and this one falls short in comparison.

When I was with the sales representative, I asked if they needed my ID. He didn't answer. Later, he mentioned I had to take a picture for the pass. I asked him "why" and he didn't answer. He just pointed the camera towards me and took the pic despite me really giving any type of consent and still no explanation as to why (which I'm sure is for legal purposes of course. Still weird how he literally said nothing despite him being a "representative"). I know it's a gym and all, but isn't customer service kind of what brings more memberships here besides the equipment here itself? Why would someone want to feel inclined in returning to a place if no questions are answered and staff don't seem to enjoy themselves here or the members/potential new members? I was also lied here from the front desk guy when I asked who was the manager, and he told me this one guy at his desk. When I went over to the manager, I was informed, he was indeed not a manager. I ended up leaving. Why did I get a call and a voicemail from a "Kyle" and when I called back, I was told "Kyle no longer works here". I don't know who hires the people here but definitely weird service

Ever since then I have remain a committed member of OneLife at Pike & Rose for a number of reasons: 1. Pike & Rose staff and trainers are awesome! Everyone is willing to help and answer your questions. If you frequent the gym consistently, say 2 or 3 times a week as do I, gym staff and workout buddies will become a positive influence in your life. This helps you want to return to the gym on a regular consistent basis. 2. The outdoor astroturf workout space as well as the natural light throughout the East and South-facing gym always supply good visual energy. I have yet to find a gym with the high quality of natural light Pike & Rose supplies to members. 3. Local manager Skyler and Fitness Director Carolyn listen to members questions and/or concerns. The over all quality of the gym, the efficiency of equipment, the way in which members approach and use the gym are all on Skyler and Carolyn's radar. They may not be able to remedy a situation at any given moment for a number of valid reasons yet they will make a note. And they are always looking for ways to improve our experience at OneLife. Things do change for the better; new equipment arrives and class schedules are adjusted to help members. 4. The personal trainers are awesome! Every single one of them is kind, polite, friendly and approachable. You can always ask them a question or two and if they can't help you, they will direct you to someone who can. Over the years I have worked out with a number of personal trainers and I can guarantee you this: you fitness achievements will increase so long as you stick to it. What ever you are facing as far a personal limitations and/or goals go, your personal trainer will work with you to help you achieve your fitness goals while remaining mindful of any physical constraints that may need extra attention. Over time, the returns on your investment working out with a personal trainer will manifest themselves in a positive way (body, mind & spirit). 5. Lastly, the cleanliness of the gym and locker rooms remains attended to throughout the day. Cleaning staff are great, I enjoy seeing them as well when I work out at Pike & Rose. Keep at it and pace yourself. Slow and steady wins the race!

No pool, but there are so many fantastic amenities and new equipment available, you won't mind. You'll get a warmup in trekking those 3 levels via stairs, but an elevator is readily available for accommodating all accessibility levels. Also, being located in the convenient area of Pike & Rose, there are plenty options to run errands, or grab food. I Highly recommend!
