TFL;DR dope. try this place idc if you're a cycler or not (hint i'm not) y'all sierra "used to play pokemon but i bet she still does ;p" r's right about that competition shizz from seeing your screenname on the tvs: same name kept hovering 1 rank above me, i was like who tf is that who tf is that i pedaled harder and during the "rest" segments i stayed lit. i noticed one of the data columns was the bicycle # and... wait for it... it was the person literally next to me! same one who'd helped me set up my bicycle when i was clueless af before class. same one knocking elbows w me during pushups. that's some deep profound spiritual shhh if you think about it. people say we live on our internet & our phones and we're too digital nowadays not personal not human. and even though the rankings were on a machine, they inadvertently made class as cutthroa--i mean uhh, friendly teamwork as possible. i expected to rank deadddd last since i'm *not* a cycler / runner. but when the tvs first cut on i was #22 out of #28; by the end of class i'd crunked up to #18* overall. they must have various charts bc on some screens i was like 15, 10, 9. all i know is y'all top ten top dozen people? i'm comin for y'all. someday. so if the question is inspiration, the answer is YESSsSsS [+] CLASS that was like the 2nd spin class ever of my life so duh i was confused but just keep pedaling srsly your legs & badonk WILL burn beezy. digital box on the handlebars made it simple to know my resistance x rpms. [+] WEIGHTS they have like 2ft sticks in lieu of dumbbells. i saw 4lbs and 6lbs, so before class i grabbed multiple 6's though it's intended as 1 stick per person. yes there are weights yes there are upper body movements but don't get it twisted - you're here at a *cycling* place for your *lower* body. think of the stick x pushups as a nifty bonus to your other arm fitness rather than a replacement. [+] SPACE modern but tinyyy #twss. they need a bigger front desk and / or two entrance clerks. wasn't even busy when i entered yet 6 people queued up waitinggg. and the line forms off to the side; don't be the mzafza standing in front coughmecough when everyone else is to the right. lockers are a cluster. just accept the fact you'll knock into folks when getting your stuff. [+] AMENITIES so fresh & so clean clean. showers n everything. ipad self-checkin. smooth. free loaner shoes are *green heel* for women sizes *gray heel* for dude sizes. guess how i found that out. :p fresh towel already on each bicycle when you enter class. what! not only live in-class rankings on tv but your stats emailed to you later. sick af. [+] WEBSITE i know they're still super new and probably still polishing the website, so i'll say it would *eventually* be awesome to have instructor bios or photos viewable online. doesn't have to be fancy, just something for us to gauge who we want to sign up for. i literally picked my class today by "ok i guess that person's name sounds cool. ::click::". or at least tell me who plays the most busta rhymes & missy elliott that's all i need to know. jk [+] COMMUNITY i liked how it was all ages all sizes 50/50 men/women. by the end of class more people had gotten into the cheering & group positivity type stuff. and not just the instructors but random classmates helping each other set up the bicycles before class. place has a good atmosphere. then again it's berkeley where tf doesn't have goodvibes. thank you CycleBar! *seemed the class stats i was auto emailed were different from the tv. namely, i only remember the tv showing 28 people, but the email stats were based on 35 total. what's funny is when i proportioned it on my ti-83 the email numbers turned into what i remember from the tv = no worries. read more

Never thought I'd be into a class like this but, this place is awesome. Not only are the staff friendly but, so are the cyclers. This place is comfortable to be in and, as my first intro to a spin class it was easy enough to maintain a comfortable intensity without the pressure of others "judging" because you aren't going as fast/w.e. Like yoga on Adderall. This place has provided to be a dope place for me to get out my frustration/energy after long days. The music is fun. The speech is encouraging. The dark room makes it easy to zone into yourself. The a/c bursts make you feel like you're actually moving so you want to continue. The instructors and front desk are just dope and actually remember who you are. read more

Today was my first class at Cycle Bar, and my first spinning class ever, so I had no idea what to expect. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which I was not expecting but certainly appreciated. They even scribbled a nice welcome message on my assigned locker! The place provides you with towels, cycling shoes (which my novice self didn't know how to use, but thankfully a staff member graciously showed me how), and fully-stocked showers. I had my spinning class with Devon, who kept us pumped up with a great playlist and encouraging chatter. Her spinning class had plenty of gear-shifting to simulate hills, and occasional upper-body movements so as to keep those muscles in check. Booking online was very easy, with the thoughtful option of choosing your seat. After booking, they make sure to remind you of your upcoming class by text and email, which I really appreciated. I also love their one-time drop-in payment option, though I could certainly see myself committing to monthly soon. I have to say, I think I'm hooked! read more

I would pass by this place all the time and wonder, "huh CycleBar what is this...looks kinda new" but I'd never really inquire any further cause I'd always be on my way to the Trader Joe's nearby, thinkin' bout those dark chocolate peanut butter cups...and like ain't nobody got time to dilly dally when those pb cups are waiting for ya!!!!!!! But a few months ago, I really got into indoor cycling, and I've really been wanting to try out new studios in the area. Last week, I took my first CycleBar class!! I booked the 6 AM classic with Vicki. Right as I entered the studio, Vicki greeted me with the friendliest, cheeriest smile, and she and a worker showed me the locker area. I saw some CycleBar clothing for sale near the entrance. They gave me a resuable water bottle and a welcome postcard with a really nice note written on it!! I thought that was super cute hahaha. They even decorated the first timers' lockers. They have showers and bathrooms, as well as a few toiletries you can use. They also have a water bottle refill station and complementary fruit (usually apples or bananas) for some pre/post ride fuelin' AAAND you don't have to pay extra for shoe rental!! The classic version class is more numbers oriented, while they also offer a connect version that seems more SoulCycle vibin'. They have themed rides too!! The class itself was really good!! You have your sprints, hills, arms/weights portion, and cool down. Instead of weights, they have these things that kinda resemble bars?? They come in 4 lb and 6 lb sizes. Vicki was amaaazing!! So much energy and enthusiasm and motivation during a 6 AM class!! She really made me want to keep pushing even when I thought I couldn't anymore. There's a screen that goes up (it wasn't up for the entire ride) and has your username and stats, and seeing your name and numbers up there next to everyone else's kinda brings out your competitive side. They e-mail your stats to you at the end of class. The instructor kept yelling out RPMs and resistance number suggestions throughout the ride. Music was pretty boomin' too!! Tons of upbeat jams to give ya those bumpin' feels Bottom line: I think SoulCycle will always be my favorite even if it is more expensive than CycleBar/doesn't offer an unlimited class option...the more meditative experience calls my name...sorry, CycleBar :( this really is an amazing place and a great workout!! But I have sold my soul to the cult. I think I'll be back!! I wanna try a themed ride. The workers are super friendly and make you feel welcomed!! If you're looking for a new spin studio, CycleBar offers some pretty good deals/membership options/class packs read more

CYCLEBAR - Cycling Classes Near Me - Berkeley, California

This is a great spinning studio! The staff are very helpful and friendly, they provide you with water to refill your water bottle (with either room temperature or chilled options), as well as snacks post workout. I didn't use the locker room but from what I saw it's very nice and clean. The music is also upbeat and the room itself is spacious. I like that the bikes are computerized so you can see how fast you're cycling. I was very fortunate to find parking right next to the place, but it might be a hassle at other times. It's walking distance from the Berkeley BART station, so that's also an option. If you are a fan of spinning, I would check it out. They currently have deals to sign up, although I'm taking off a start just because it's still currently out of my budget and not close enough for me. read more

This review is only for the customer service. Canceled this gym 3 months ago and am still being charged for membership monthly & on top of that 2 random $20 fees! I'm honestly extremely pissed because I've called the gym/ left voicemails/ as well as emailed them in looking for a refund since I'm not using any of their services. They're extremely unresponsive. At one point I was told a manager would call me back, but I haven't once heard from them after calling the gym for weeks now. All this is actually pretty hilarious because they wouldn't stop blowing up my phone with their marketing/ promotions while I was a member! read more

I LOVE this studio...the classes, the instructors, the ride...all of it!! Highly recommend!!!

A terribly run location. They will charge you once you've cancelled your membership and say you have a past due account and never respond to email inquiries regarding the matter. I was charged an extra month after I cancelled and could never resolve it with them so I filed a fraudulent charge claim w my bank who took care of it. Then months later started getting past due emails with no details about what the amount to be collected was for. read more

This review is purely in response to the billing/customer service aspect of CycleBar Berkeley. I used to love taking classes there, and when the pandemic hit, I put my account on pause. Some months later, I called to cancel my account because I was moving out of town. Now, here we are almost a year later, and I find out they've been charging me for all these months even though I've ALREADY CANCELLED. They're claiming they have a policy that you have to come in-person to cancel, when they clearly took my cancellation over the phone. Also, their offices were closed due to COVID during the time that I canceled, so I couldn't have come in person even if I wanted to! I noticed many other similar reviews, so word of warning to anyone who signs up for a membership here, they have terrible customer service and billing practices. It's a perfectly fine spin studio, but this experience has soured me on the Cyclebar brand and I will never be back. read more

After Flywheel in Sunnyvale closed down I needed to find a new cycling studio. Came here during the break and it's a nice studio but found myself comparing it to Flywheel. The cycling room is nice and is filled with three rows with good ventilation. If you come through Classpass, they automatically put you in the last row and you can't ask to move to the front, but it didn't feel that far back. The bikes are the Schwinn bikes and are in moderate condition and each one comes with a towel. It's not as competitive as some as the other studios because the scoreboard didn't go up until the end and in an email after class. The locker room was decent sized and had three showers and there was not much of a wait to get to a shower since everyone was pretty quick. Parking seemed difficult so I ended up taking Bart. read more

I'd say if you enjoy a cycle/spin class and want quality instruction and a high energy class, you should definitely try out Cycle Bar. I'm not the biggest cycle fan but came for the Yelp event and the time went by really fast because of our awesome instructor Sadie. She gave helpful cues, insightful mantras, and strove to create a communal atmosphere. The bikes are very nice. They incorporate a weighted bar for arm work, and the bikes track all your stats. It was either dim lighting or dark the whole time, which I enjoyed because it allows you to focus on your own workout and not worry about everyone seeing your sweaty red face . I was impressed with how nice the layout of the studio was. They give you lockers for your gear, a towel, and your own spin shoes. They have a lovely patio outside where you can hang, chat, and enjoy the wonderful Berkeley weather. Definitely give the classes a try, if not, buy an unlimited pack and cycle to upbeat and enjoyable cardio music. My only tip would be to practice clipping in your shoes before class. If you come out, you don't want to waste time putting your shoes back in the clips so make sure you can get in and out. read more

This place has made COVID/SIP so much more tolerable! The staff and instructors are extremely nice, welcoming, and accommodating. lmao cyclebar is not for me!! it was super intense, the lights going on and off and the music being really loud was a bit much. this was my first spin class and no one explained to me about how to properly change the gears etc, so I was struggling to just follow along. It's a big class so you don't get any modifications or personal attention like you would in a typical exercise class. the front desk people were friendly and the icy cold temp was nice, but based on this experience I feel no need to ever return. read more

I wanted to try spin at least once so I was tempted by the free lesson here at the CycleBar. Located within walking distance from many popular Berkeley joints like the Butcher's Son, I have a feeling this place is really popular amongst hipsters and health fanatics. Nonetheless, don't let that deter even the most physically incapable from trying! The instructor was really nice and explained things really well. I liked that you get to borrow a pair of cycling shoes instead of buying them yourself. This place is also extremely clean with lockers for everyone to try. I had a great time at my free lesson. I liked getting to try the different things they do during lessons without feeling pressure to compete. I don't know if cycling is for me, but it was a pretty enjoyable lesson and I could see myself coming again to try. If you are interesting in spin/cycling, I highly recommend CycleBar! read more

This place is great! My BF and I signed up for a promotion they had and to be honest, I was really nervous since I've never taken an official cycling class. The people who work there are fantastic - very personable and really engaging and caring. When I got there, they made sure that I was all set and help me get settled on my bike. It's a tough class but really great work out. You don't feel pressured since everyone is going at their own pace. There is a ton of energy - which keeps people pumped up. I'm excited to be a part of this community. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I'm obsessed and love cyclebar and i'm happy to have found my "home" studio! the instructors were helpful and friendly which was awesome since this was my first week taking spin classes (I tried a new place every day) and I loved it so much I signed up for an unlimited membership! my only complaint is that I wish there were more class times/more consistent class times, such as some mornings they have a 7:15 which works perfectly for my schedule as does their 6:00 PM, but that's only on certain nights so I haven't been able to cycle as much as I would want, but that being my only complaint (which is totally selfish lol) speaks highly to how amazing this place is! their price point is one of the lowest in the area yet I definitely felt this was the best studio I have been too. read more

This was a lot of fun! First time riding at CycleBar. Unfortunately, we didn't get the first timer treatment (cute welcome note in a locker with your name on it and a CycleBar water bottle). The ride was intense.... Burned about 450 calories!! The screen on the bike made it easy to increase the gear and ride harder- no more guesswork. Sarah, the instructor, was great. We rode to Usher and Justin Timberlake... fun, fun, fun! I will definitely do this again. After the ride, we were treated to brunch- pastries, fruit, and of course mimosas! This was a great way to workout on Sunday. *FYI-we talked to the front desk and got our water bottle. read more

I definitely try to come to CycleBar at least twice a week to get my cardio in. The package deals and incentive promotions they have going on make it difficult for me to not think that this is a good investment for my fitness! There's never a dull moment since the instructors always to mix up the workouts with different themed rides (has someone done a Beyoncé-themed ride yet?!), and I love how all they really want you to get the most out of your class! The staff remain consistently friendly and helpful and I really appreciate their energy. Beyond the classes & staff, the studio itself is really beautiful and clean. I wish the bathrooms were a little bigger but I don't have any major complaints! Parking is always a hit or miss with CycleBar being in downtown Berkeley so come early to make sure you make it to class on time! Shoutout to Cat for always leading an intense and motivational, yet fun workout and for always making sure that all of us are comfortably riding. Kudos also to the rest of the instructors; you guys rock! read more

I loved EVERYTHING about CycleBar Berkeley! When I found out they were offering free cycling classes from Thanksgiving through Dec 11 for their grand opening, I dragged my boyfriend and my sisters to go check it out. Sign up to reserve a seat through their website; the process was very simple. We signed up for a class with Lindsey and she was great. She was fun and upbeat and kept the class together. The class lasted 50 minutes and included resistance cycling, weight bar exercises, and stretching. Your stats are monitored and displayed in front of the class so it pushes you to try harder. My stats didn't show up on the board. I'm not sure how you get your stats to show up at the front, but you should ask one of the workers before strapping in. Your individual stats are emailed to you after the class. Shoes, water bottles, and snacks are provided. There are assistants throughout the studio to guide you to use their lockers (which come with built in keypad locks), help you lock in your cycling shoes, and to answer any questions that you may have. Clean towels are provided. The female restroom is very clean and equipped with necessities like shaving cream, razors, hair ties, bobby pins, tampons, and plastic bags for dirty clothes. The facility is awesome and they treat you like VIP. I believe they are also having a 50% off promo on all apparel (possibly only a Black Friday promo). Come here and be prepared to sweat! I certainly got a great work out here! Thank you CycleBar! read more

Took advantage of their free week of classes back and did not disappoint! I loved the easy check in process and their brand new studio is niiiice. Pros: - I loved that the locker area was spacious enough that it wasn't too crowded after class. - For some reason their bikes had better grip than other ones I've experienced at Soul, Flywheel and other spin studios. - Love the option to opt into the in class ranking. - My instructor, Lindsey, was sugar, spice and everything nice. Loved her "booty" workouts. - She even shouted out "TIFFABULOOOOUS" during our sprint with the ranking on. Cons: - The bathroom is super tiny. I can only imagine how inconvenient it would be in the morning. - Parking could potentially be an issue. - I think the bikes are set up a little too close to each other because I whacked my bike mate pretty hard during one of the moves. Oops. It was a fun workout over all and I'd love to come back for another class when I'm in the area. read more

Came here for my the first yelp elite event of the year! The facility they have here is top notch! They have excellent customer service. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. It was my first time doing a spin class and it quite an experience. Definitely a challenging workout. My quads cramped up about 10minutes in. But our instructor, Heather, was so motivational, you just want to keep going. They do a great job choosing the music to match the intensity. The cool part is that they email you your statistics immediately after your workout. The place is pretty new. Just opened in November, so they have the latest equipment. The entire place was super clean. Felt very comfortable being there. Their bathroom was also very clean, smelled fresh, and has showers. If you want to try something new or looking for a good spin studio, I recommend this place! read more

Moved up to the bay from LA so I had to find an indoor cycling studio to keep up with it. I'm so glad I found CycleBar because I love everything about it! The location is so close to me, the facility is always clean, and the staff is amazing! Shoutouts to Lauren and to my favorite instructors Mindy, Vicky, Taylor, and Holly! Cycling is not easy but their energy just pushes you to try harder and progress! If you're a little intimated to get into spin, come to this studio because they'll make you feel right at home! Thanks CycleBar for always kicking my butt! read more

The studio has a great design aesthetic. The space is clean and well designed with all the amenities needed. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The instructors are enthusiastic and motivating. The music is pumping and energetic. Overall, a great workout and a fun one too. The same can not be said for their customer service. I provided my credit card information and was told I would receive my receipt via email and never received it. The receipt or at least the website should note how to cancel one's membership. I emailed the studio to confirm their membership policy and they did not respond. I had to email the Westgate Studio to get a clarification. The membership can only be canceled in person inside the studio. Take note that you need to go to the studio when the studio is having classes b/c they are not open as noted on their website. Studio and classes are great. Customer Service needs a lot of work still. read more

I agree with some other reviews that the owners / instructors (I went to Sandi's class for my first class last weekend) are incredibly nice and really want to help you (especially if you're absolute beginners like me and my husband) - and this makes all the difference. The second thing that makes a difference - I was so impressed by how clean the studio, complimentary bike shoes, and bikes were. They are so thoughtful that they even offer ear plugs if you happen to want to use them (I chose to, since I have sensitive ears, but they're not necessary). It's tech-savvy, so you can easily sign up and sign the waiver online, reserve your bike, and just show up and check in on their ipads. As for the class - the room is set up really nicely, and the music and lighting keep things interesting (I loved the theme they chose for this class - it was Michael Jackson v. Madonna - really fun, classic, upbeat music). I thought it was a neat feature that you could see yourself listed on the leaderboard - for a friendly sense of pushing yourself if you're so inclined. But leaderboard is not constantly up there, so you don't have to pay attention to it if you would rather just have a carefree ride. Overall, I feel that this studio is dynamic, well-run, and clean, and I would come back and encourage friends to try it too. read more

Love this place! Went in for my first class for the Friday happy hour ride with Sandi and was so satisfied with my work out. I have tried many cycle studios, and my favorite was Spark Cycle in San Diego beforehand. This has tied my experience with Spark Cycle. The studio is beautiful and so clean. They have complimentary water, water bottles, fruit and even refreshments for happy hour. The cycle equipment and bikes are top notch. And I was so impressed with the workout I got. I was beat afterwards! Everyone was so nice and helpful, Emilia helped me out and she's a total sweetheart! Definitely will be coming back!! Love it here :) read more

I did a class in January which was OK. I was with a first-time rider who got the right attention setting up her bike but the instructor didn't do a very good job with her cues during the ride, so, if you knew what you were doing it was a decent class. For a newbie? Ehh, not so much. The staff here was super nice but beware, they are super aggressive with their follow up sales tactics. Since that one class, I've probably gotten 10 calls, emails, or texts harassing me to book the next class. Obnoxious. read more

I used to be an avid spinner when I lived in Orange County. The classes I was taking back in the OC were probably comparable to 24 Hour Fitness group class. Cyclebar is on a whole 'nother level. You register for a seat online. Cool thing about assigning yourself a seat is that they will e-mail you your stats after the class based on that bike (estimated calories burned, class rank, etc.) The facilities are very clean. There are lockers where you can store your stuff, water station (room temp or cold!), bathroom w/ showers & they also offer spin shoes if you don't own your own pair. If it's your first time, one of the Cyclebar employees will come around and help you adjust our bike to the right height. Now on to the class. My instructor was Vicki. She was awesome and super encouraging. She insisted that everyone go at their own pace yet pushed us all to get the best workout. The class itself was a 45 min ride which incorporated some sprints, in/out of saddle movement, arms, a weighted bar (who knew 4lbs could feel so heavy...lol) & for you highly competitive ones out there, they incorporate mini challenges! They display your name on the board (if you opted in online) and she literally has you race. It's pretty fun and gives that extra push for you to work harder. The room itself is dark so you can focus on your workout but at the same time there are light effects that go along with the music & mood. The bikes themselves made me want my own! They were so much smoother than other spin bikes I've used. The only cons I can think of is the bikes are a little too close to each other. This was only a problem when we used the weighted bars but other than that we were OK. Also, parking is kind of a pain. Gotta find parking on the street! Overall, it was a great ride! Only wish I lived closer! read more

Loved my first ride here - it's a brand spanking new, sparkling studio with plenty of lockers and a spacious ladies' room with showers. The only downside is finding parking in the area - being downtown Berkeley, it can be challenging at times, so give yourself extra time. read more

Came here for a Yelp elite event in early February and the lovely Yo Steph! was our hostess with the mostess. My first cardio vascular love is running, my second is spin class. I've been to soul cycle a few times but I think CycleBar are the most friendliest and sweetest folks. The check in process is pretty cool, you go over to an area where you find your name/bike number on an iPad. If you need spin shoes they have you covered. The locker room area is an open space and also have a bowl of fruit waiting for you, dispensable ice water or room temp water and free water bottle! The women's locker room have everything you need like hair ties, deodorant, hairspray, blow dryers, towels, etc.. and its super clean. On to the class! I forgot the name of the instructor but she totally rocks. Great playlist, kickass workout and you get to see how you are performing on the monitors. Kind of like what orange theory does but without the heart rate monitor. I also love how the spin bikes are digitalized, like I can actually see the resistance number on my bike without guessing. Come check this place out, great to get a work out in especially with all this rain read more

So happy this studio has come to Berkeley! I tried a class on a Saturday morning and I loved it. The room is set up nicely and I liked the music, lighting, bikes, and the way the room/bikes are set-up. It is a highly choreographed cycle class, pretty much every song had additional moves to it. I like this cycling class better then the ones offered at nearby studios like Body Rok and the Dailey Method. A few nice to haves that the studio provides: a water bottle, fruit and a towel.
