I drove 45 minutes through Friday afternoon traffic to go to a class here. I've been to another cyclebar location in Chicago several times and loved it. I showed up to this location 3 minutes before the class eager to get a great workout in. The first thing I notice is homeless people sleeping against their doors and piles of trash and shopping carts all around that I need to step over to get inside, while a mentally unwell person yelled something at me. Great start... When I get inside, the girl with the pierced nose behind the desk told me "new" people needed to be there 5 minutes early (again, I've been to Cyclebar several times elsewhere but okie dokie). I was only 3 minutes early, so they wouldn't allow me in... yes seriously, this is their new customer experience . Now I'm in the car driving 45 minutes back home. What an embarrassment of a customer experience on all levels. I'll be finding a new spinning franchise. read more

Be aware! I called to cancel my membership and my wife May 2nd and i was charged for may and June they didn't Cancel my membership. On top of that they charged me $25 dollars fee more for each membership to my account and my wife. Total of $326 for the 2 Months. I called today and they said that i needed to sent an email in order to cancel my membership. Im so disappointed of this place. I definitely do not recommend it. read more

I want to aknowledge that the instructors here are really great. They are very nice, very welcoming, and really push the energy in each class. They are great and are the reason I keep coming back. What I don't like is if they do a lot of things that are of dubious training benefit at best. Lifting a 3 pound weight in the middle of a cycling class will provide no training benefit, as any trainer can tell you. Really, none. It's annoying that this is a feature at so many spin studios. Don't they consult with experts? Jumping up out of the saddle for one or two counts each is also potentially more dangerous than beneficial (these types of bikes are not easy on knees). Doing "push-ups" on the handlebars provides no training benefit. Fortunately, at the studio nobody will get mad at you if you don't do everything that the instructors tell you to. I also know that these things are prescribed by CYCLEBAR bar and not the choice of the instructors, so I don't hold it against them. It's also really hard to hear of the instructors with the sound set up. I do like the bikes and all the feedback they give you. I do like the studio. Sometimes the music is outstanding. The front desk staff is extremely nice and helpful. This place is a blessing to me since, with my current set of injuries, I can't do anything but spin. It really is helping me maintain my fitness. So if you know your own body and you know how to train, you can get a lot out of these classes. read more

There are 25 cycles jammed in the room, so always easy to reserve a bike. Loud rap-type music is supposed to add to the vibe. The result is that the instructor is a bit hard to understand and get instructions from over the music -- you end up hearing, "4, 3, 2, 1", but with no idea what the next phase is. [Update 12/27/21, Celeste did not think it a problem, but I did hear from Mindy that they are planning to go back to the more expensive mics they had at the beginning.] Back in November there were problems with HVAC -- the room was 50F, and staff had put the AC on high because the air had been out of order. Staff did not know to check the room herself at beginning of a class. The instructor, probably clueless, turned all the fans on high. A couple of us then quit early to protect our bodies. This was promptly fixed when brought to the manager's attention, but I find the employees are "doing by rote", and not encouraged to think. read more

[COVID review] I have been coming to CycleBar since before COVID, but I decided to get a membership during the Black Friday promotions because I enjoyed it so much pre-COVID. With COVID, all of their classes are outdoors on their back patio. It's limited class sizes, spaced out, and masks are required per county mandate. The studio is kept very clean at all times, and pre-COVID you were provided with whatever you needed for your workout! They are doing a lot of shorter classes during this time, so they cut some of the arm workouts with bars If you do the 30 minute classes, you are less likely to get an instructor that does arms, but the 45 minutes classes throws the arm bars in! I really believe that the music and instructors make the class. I personally enjoy the themed classes the most, especially when they are hip-hop themed or more edm-style music. My absolute favorite instructors so far have been Mindy and Zakiyyah. They kick my butt and I enjoy their playlists! Everyone at this studio is so friendly, they go the extra mile to remember your name and accommodate. I honestly enjoy working out here and even though I hate cardio, I do look forward to my rides here! read more

I was referred to CycleBar by a friend and as a first timer, loved the experience! The staff was super kind and welcoming. Since I wasn't familiar with the equipment, I was asked to come in a few minutes earlier so they could walk me through the process which was helpful and made me feel comfortable during the session. For anyone trying to get a bit of more exercise throughout the week, this is the place to do it! They have instructors that go pretty late, so it's easy to stop by after work hours. read more

Let me preface this review with: I'm not new to Spinning. I've been doing it regularly since Johnny G developed it in the late 80's. I've also done Soul Cycle several times (see my review), which is very similar to CycleBar. The main difference between CycleBar and Soul Cycle is that the room is not heated (in Soul Cycle, it's heated to ~95 degrees). I was not a big fan of the heated room in Soul Cycle, as the room gets hot enough without any added heat! Oh, and the price. Soul Cycle can cost up to $30/class. CycleBar classes can go down as low as $12/class. CycleBar provides towels, shoes (not sure if there is a fee for them, since I brought my own) and cold water dispensers. There are lockers to store your things. I didn't use the bathroom but I think they have showers (from the other reviews I've read). There were also bananas and free CycleBar swag at the counter (lip balm and hand sanitizers)! The 6:00 p.m. class was very uncrowded- which is probably since it just opened. The first thing I noticed was that the room was very cold so I kept my jacket on while I warmed up. By the end of the class, we were all quite sweaty! I really liked that they let you into the studio before the official start time (Soul Cycle doesn't allow this). It seemed that there were lots of people new to Spinning in my class so the staff was very helpful in getting them situated on their bikes. Jenn was my instructor and led us through a great class! She mixed it up with hills, sprints and jumps, and played upbeat dance/house/hip hop music during the class. I got a good workout! The classes are only 50 minutes long so I was glad I started 10 minutes early, as I like to get in a solid hour of cardio. We did about 5 minutes of arm exercises with the bar (they have different weights- I used 6 lbs). The bikes are brand new and everything about the studio is super clean :) The only thing I would suggest is they space the bikes a *tad* further apart, as I bumped arms with my neighbor a couple of times during the bar exercises. The staff is very enthusiastic and helpful. They are offering free classes through 12/10 so get in there soon! They are also offering lots of good deals on class packages. Great studio! I came here because my doctor recommended it as part of my post-ACL surgery rehabilitation. I was a little hesitant at first, being that I have never taken a quality group class before, nor did I ever see myself joining a gym that solely focuses on indoor cycling, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my first class! The staff and crowd are very friendly and I feel welcome here. The first class is free to try it out and the staff guide you through the process. If you show up 15 minutes beforehand as recommended, the instructor takes the time to set your bike with the proper measurement as well as how to properly clip and unclip onto the bike pedals. I enjoy the encouraging environment and it helps motivate me in completing my recovery! read more

This brand-new cycle bar has had a very popular opening thanks to its free classes (through December 11), perfect location (minutes from Downtown Berkeley Bart), and helpful staff. PROS: The studio is great and all the classes I took there were excellent. I don't usually like exercise classes but these were fun and energizing. All the teachers were a bit different and all really good. Everything is brand-new and the customer service is . It's real easy to check-in and sign up for classes (especially on their app). Bathrooms are stocked with supplies (hair ties, q-tips, etc) and there are free water bottles and fruit! One major PRO - I'm new at these cycle classes and have only been to FlyWheel in SF. I cannot stress enough how much more helpful the staff here at CycleBar is than at FlyWheel. Just better customer service, really willing to help you adjust the bike and get yourself situated. They are so great at making sure people feel comfortable before the class starts. They literally offered to fill up my water bottle for me. Also, unlike in FlyWheel, the instructors ask who is new which is so nice. They should keep that up! CON: It's pricey!! I'm curious how it will do now that the free classes are over. The locker room area is tiny and it gets real crowded. Also it gets loud!! But they have ear plugs. I moved to Oakland right after this opened, but loved having it in the neighborhood for my last week in Berkeley. If you're into cycling, this is definitely worth checking out. read more

I am so happy with this place. That's because of the venue and the people. The venue: it's super clean and the biking studio itself provides plenty of room between cyclists. The riding fees include everything. They supply riding shoes and sweat towels (no fee), lockers (no fee). Showers (large and super clean) & towels and other amenities if you want to shower and go to work (no fee) They've got a big staff, directing people and getting riders settled before class. Everyone working there is so excited to be there and wants to help with each step. They definitely made it easy for me. During my first couple of rides, I was never left to fend for myself. I've been riding with the incredible instructor, Jessica, and I hear that all of their instructors totally rock. Finally, I find that Cyclebar gives me more for my money with their various deals that they offer from time to time. I'm having total fun going here. read more

Every instructor is wonderful and will make you laugh and work harder than you ever would on your own. Zakiyyah will bring out an athlete in you, you had no idea was there. Kyla's themes will leave you beaming, whether it is a Taylor or Jersey club theme ride. You will not be able to fuck around in Samira's class as you spin fast to Odessa. I love this place! I bought a pass on Groupon (4 classes for $39.99). Your first ride they give you a cute welcoming note and complimentary cyclebar water bottle. Lockers are also provided inside! The instructors are amazing and they really push you in each class. The music choices are great to cycle to. Your input is also important so let the instructors know which artists you want to cycle to! I told Sarah I wanted to hear Cardi B and she made it happen. I also attended a Beyoncé themed class and Sarah kicked our butt! You leave cyclebar feeling amazing and sweaty :-) Inside the studio it's very clean. I appreciate the AC/fans in the room so we don't have to smell everyone's BO while cycling hehe. Sunday's they provide complimentary mimosas and snacks! What's worse, they set up a separate account for my 12-year-old son (who rode maybe 4-5 times) and continued to charge that account unbeknownst to me. And they won't fix it. Love this spin studio. I've taken classes with Mindy, Jesus, Zakiyyah, Samira, Zach, and Taylor--all wonderful instructors with energizing playlists and high energy. They're good about balancing pushing your limits and intuiting when to listen to your body and take it easy. I honestly look forward to coming to spin here at the end of the day just because the energy is a great seratonin/dopamine dump after dealing with 9-to-5 work stress. They have cycling shoes to borrow (you don't need to rent them) and provide towels and water free as well. You can either check in with staff at the front desk or at the iPads to the right of the front desk. You can choose on the iPad (or ask the instructor before class) if you don't want your stats on the screen during their "leaderboard challenges" in class . If you are new, they are good about welcoming you and helping you adjust your bike. And they provide ear plugs if the music is too loud. Lastly, the previous reviews that diss an instructor for "bad playlists" are of no absolutely no value because liking music is subjective. Yes, I have been in classes where some or half of the songs are not my jam. But I roll with it because I'm getting my workout in and the instructor is doing their best. You know you can always suggest songs to instructors too, right? Or find an instructor who has similar music interests as you! read more

After taking a ride with Samira, I had to go on Yelp to rave about her classes. I burn +100 MORE calories with Samira than with any other instructor and was motivated from start to finish. Her music is 11/10 and I found myself pushing myself way beyond my usual limit. Her class is probably the closest thing to an actual EDM rave you could get, in all the best ways. If you're popping in for your first ride, I would definitely recommend booking her session. Wished she had more classes throughout the week! read more

I have done numerous cycle classes -I didn't like this at all the instructor had music way too loud- crappy play list (really crappy) so loud I thought my head was gonna explode- My bike did not show on the main screen so I could not track my progress only about 50% of the class had their stats on the board it was so dark I couldn't even find my bike when the class started I took a class at 9:30 on a Saturday morning- plenty of staff to help but no toilet paper in the bathrooms- i'm going to stick to my regular indoor cycling class elsewhere read more

I'm trying out cycle studios around the east bay- CycleBar first came into my mind. The studio is clean, bathroom is well stocked! The community room is great and lockers are sparkling clean. They have someone constantly working in the laundry/shoe sanitizing room. Parking wasn't too bad but do plan a time for finding a spot. I parked a few blocks away and didn't mind the walk! It was a such pretty day. Now the class was okay- it is my understanding that the cycle star (instructor) is new but she did great. The only thing I was bummed about the class is at end of class I did not realize that you need to turn on a device on your bike to get your stats on the screen. You can opt out on that but I never knew about it. I did warn them that I'm deaf in advance and my communication preference is to text from my phone. I do not read lips. When we were done with the class the front desk staff opened up the door and gave out high fives which was a nice touch! Will I return? I honestly am not sure. I'll try out other studios and go from there. CycleBar do have lots of pros to start with. I just hope I'll have a better experience as a deaf person next time. read more

I've had so much fun at CycleBar Berkeley that I purchased a membership! I've found a new cardio workout love- cycling- and decided to give CycleBar Berkeley a try since I loved the location back home. They have a intro package of 3 classes for $39 that is a great deal for anyone wanting to try out the studio. The classes are SO FUN! Things you should know: lights are super dim, music is loud, mic is loud. The lights make it feel like it's just you, your bike, and words of encouragement from your instructor. They do have ear plugs available if you don't like loud- I personally don't mind it, keeps me pumped. The workout is intense- endurance, hills, HIIT, arms, etc. But YOUR workout. You can obviously dial it back if you aren't in shape or just not feeling 100% that day. No one is going to call you out on it. The instructors are all great- incredibly inspirational and lead a great workout! The instructors MAKE Cyclebar what it is! For the competitive folk, you have the option to show your stats (how hard you are working) on the leader board that the instructor flashes on the screen some times during the workout. It's designed to push you and see if you are keeping up with the class. You also get an email after the workout with your class rank, class stats, approx calories burned etc. Random Pros: Complementary shoes!, free (lol) water (ice cold AND room temp...say what?!), free lockers for your class, free towel to use, free fruit and coffee, showers, and some toiletries (dry shampoo, deodorant). TIPS: Parking is rough during mid-day/evenings. It's on University Ave and MLK... so you know. When I take morning classes, I'm able to park across the street. Be on time, rides start promptly. Don't be afraid to ask for help/questions- Cyclebar provides the most friendly and welcoming environment so they want to help! read more

I mean, this place.... c'mon. I don't think they will hire you unless you happen to be the nicest person in the world. From their front of house, to the owners to every instructor, these people are just straight up so nice and sweet. They greet you, they chat you up while you're putting your shoes on, they help you get on the bike and they always say goodbye... does it get any better? Why, yes it does. The workout kicks some serious ass and the tech is up there so they send you all your stats so you can track your progress and that calorie burnage. They pack in the bikes, but I've never been when it's super crowded. The locker room area is small, but it's Berkeley. They do the 35 minutes of spin and about 5-6 minutes of arms. - Free fruit - usually bananas. They never run out. - Free refillable water bottles. - Amazing outdoor space when that weather gets better. - Great packages, especially for newbs. - I'm a pretty veteran spinner and their shoes are a bit hard to clip in, in the beginning. If you're newbie to CycleBar get there a few minutes early to get settled. Teachers and music depends on your preference. You figure out what each instructor is like and what music they play as you go, although they have been doing a great job lately being pretty clear on their theme rides and music choices. I'm so glad that I was first introduced to this place through a Yelp event. Mad props Steph Y.! So my husband and I wanted to get healthy this year and we both decided to check out CycleBar Berkeley. Best decision made this year! Everyone who worked there was incredibly friendly, helpful, and super passionate about spin. This was my first experience with spin class and because of the great workout with Vicki and how helpful the staff was in aiding in my experience my husband and I decided to purchase the 10 rides for $99. I have been to 3 spin classes thus far and I must say that during the beginning of each class part of me cringes and wonders why I am subjecting my body to such an intense workout. However, at the end of each class it hurts so good and I feel stronger and more in shape after each and every class. Each instructor I have had has been great and has their own unique tips. Benjamin is currently my favorite instructor of the 3 I have tried. His passion and energy challenges me to push myself. I am so excited to come back and though I take a 20 minute detour to make it here, it is well worth it. They also have great amenities like free large water bottles, fresh bananas, free spin shoes that click into the bike (which BTW is really hard to do, but the staff members are more than happy to help with), showers with great water pressure, and basic toiletries/towels/hair products. Bought a package with a friend and we secretly were looking forward to it being over, not because it's not fun or a great workout, but because, it just kicks your butt. I've panted so hard for so long, I feel like a smoker when I'm in these classes and feel like I regret every piece of bacon or prosciutto or fat that I ate during the week. It's definitely not for the faint in heart, but it's also really fun when they put together themes. Fave class so far was definitely Britney v Gaga. Like...how can you not love a class where you watch Britney videos? "Thank your body for what it does for you everyday." -Vicki, an awesome spin instructor at CycleBar Vicki's spin class was inspiring, invigorating and sweat-inducing! This was my first spin class EVER, and as such, it was really nice receiving lots of assistance from the staff (and bike mates!) on getting my seat to the proper height and figuring out how to get those darn shoes clipped in! I currently belong to 24 Hour Fitness, where I normally just use the stepmill or the stationary bike. Immediately after this class began, I saw the appeal of spin--you'll work yourself a LOT harder than you would if you were just left to your own devices....literally speaking...how many of us play around on our phones while using the cardio machines at a traditional gym? Like, 90% of us, amirite? Taking a spin class from CycleBar guarantees that you'll remain focused and motivated throughout the entire workout to push yourself a lot harder while having tons of fun! The experience was top-notch from start to finish, from having the complementary water bottle filled with my choice of either room temperature or chilled water, to the provided towels on each reserved bike, to the leaderboard and men vs. women game, to the outdoor back patio with string lights and benches. If I lived in Berkeley, I would definitely take classes here regularly. read more

Finished a great Throwback Thursday class that Cat led. Normally, I'm used to the 24 hour fitness cycle classes but that is the bare minimum when it comes to cycle. The only other mainstream cycle platform that I can compare this to is Flywheel and I like Cycle Bar a lot better. Cycle room is a bit small and I can see how it can get cramped on weekends butthe more the merrier. The bikes are all well equipped and maintained with towels on each bike already. Cat definitely knew when to motivate/push the class and her enthusiasm shined bright throughout the 50 minute class! They have free intro classes available and a mini pack of 3 classes for $29.00 for those who want to give it a try. Think it's a good value and not as pricey as others. read more

The very first time when I took class with Sarah few times months ago, I really liked her vibe and the music. She is simply amazing and pushes you hard! That kept me going there few times but I really don't like their marketing, sales pitches as they push the memberships as hard as they can (many emails, calls...etc). I came here when they were offering free classes to try out their cycling classes! You reserve your bike online and you come in, check in on the iPad, grab your shoes and start riding. The facility is nice and everyone there is super nice! You can pick any lockers and you also get to pick your locker combination, so don't forget it! Once you get in, the instructor will guide you through the course. If you choose to show your stats, you'll see your stats posted up occasionally on the screen. I had a fantastic time I was here, I really loved it. I miss cycling as well, I haven't done it awhile but I love it. The bikes are a little bit closer together than I would like but no biggie. They also have a light weighed bar so you'll get the opportunity to work out the upper body while riding. The bathrooms are extremely nice. In the female restrooms, there's hair ties if you forget yours! Don't you hate it when you forget your hairtie? I definitely would recommend this place. I hadn't been here since COVID hit, and I really have to give Cyclebar Berkeley props for keeping things going! Classes are being held in the patio area in the back, riders need to wear masks during rides, and bikes are socially distanced. Obviously things aren't ideal, but the rides are still great and make you break a sweat. Most of the classes are abbreviated to 30 min and without the arm workout. It's great to know that even though the world is crazy, places like this cyclebar are still putting on classes to give us a great workout and a sense of community! Just keep in mind that you may not actually get the bike you picked on the app- they pull the bikes outside everyday and the numbers get a little mixed up. read more

The Bay Area has quite a few spin chains but I really like CycleBar. First, the instructors are great (I follow Vicki on IG - she's super!). Upbeat, energetic and full of spunk and sass (in a totally good way). They make me laugh and yet work harder. Second, the staff is very friendly and always willing to help. I have severe user error when trying to put the spin shoe in the correct "latch" of the bike. It's embarrassing. They don't sweat it literally holding my foot and directing it to snap correctly. Third, great facility! Not only is it clean with great amenities (choose cold or room temperature water) such as fruit and sometimes pastries! Forget your water bottle? No problem! They got you with CycleBar water bottles for you to use (please reuse!!!). Their outdoor back patio is rental worthy for your next event (I wonder if they do that). It's beautiful! Parking is not easy which is my only negative. However, I definitely recommend students, staff and professors from UC Berkeley to frequent this place. You won't regret it! read more

I was able to take advantage of the free ride promotion and here were my objective thoughts: - The facility is very sanitary (might help that it is brand new) - Lockers are easy to use. Remember the locker number and set your own code. They had an employee to help with the process - Free shoe rental makes spin so much less intimidating - Sandi the instructor for my class was enthusiastic and energetic. She played a mix of hip hop and rock. - I wish they provided better instruction on getting in and out of the pedals for newbies as someone kindly just locked me in (and when I accidentally came loose spent a good five minutes fumbling in the dark). Is Spin for me? I'm not sure and my personal subjective opinion did not affect the star rating. It's a great workout in that in combines lower and upper body movements (2nd half involves lifting a bar) but like many other spin classes it feels a lot like running a treadmill in a gym with great music blasting and someone shouting encouragement. Last tip, if you are ever going to move from sitting to standing while pedaling make sure to turn the gears up a notch or two as you may lose your balance if spinning too quickly (90+ rpm). read more

Nothing but good things to say about Cyclebar!!!!! It is so much fun and the workout you get is incredible. Time flys by in the classes so don't let the 45 minute class intimidate you. The staff is so friendly, and all of the instructors are SO NICE. The playlists they have too during the rides are so energizing and make the workout more of an expensive than somewhere you go to workout. The place is absolutely gorgeous too. The cycle theater is crazy it is so cool and the speakers in it are very clear. They always give you a towel before the ride and a cold towel after the ride and are always ready to help you. I just moved down here for college and Cyclebar was very very new to me and I've never done a spin class. After the first class I was hooked!! I enjoy it so much and always leave there ready to go back. read more
