I bring my mom to the class on Saturdays called Gentle with Tonia which is geared toward seniors. Tonia is a great instructor and I highly recommend this class not only to seniors but also to anyone new to barre, recovering, or looking for a slower paced class. Please note that gentle does not mean easy. Also, be aware that the ac is usually turned way up! Be sure to come early so you can grab street parking. Also, bring grip socks! read more

At age 56, I have greater flexibility and stronger balance than when I was younger. I began barre to rebuild core strength after having my kids, 180 lb and 160 lb pregnancies on a 120 lb frame. Susan and her team are excellent instructors with attention to form and cuing. I have arthritis and scoliosis, there are always a variety of modifications offered in each class. I'm always invigorated by the workout of barre/pilates/yoga and really enjoy the community of folks I've met there. read more

I credit Honor Barre (formerly Dailey Method) with the fact that I'm in better physical shape now at age 75 than I was at age 25! I first started taking classes in 2009 and hopefully will continue for many years ahead. Their approach to workouts makes you stronger in your whole body (especially your core) as well as your mind. In January I started with the Strength & Honor cohort where we incorporate heavy weights, and I have full confidence in the positive impact on bone density and overall longevity. Honor your body and head to Honor Barre now! read more

I love taking classes at The Dailey Method Piedmont. Before finding them I struggled to find a workout regime that I enjoyed and would stick to. The teachers are all different and fun and challenging and I like the variety that each class offers. I've never felt better than I do when I go to class regularly. read more

This class was fabulous! I actually left there feeling like I was standing taller and with improved posture. I took Outdoor Express with Shauna, who was welcoming and encouraging. The class was challenging, but she gave us modifications (thank you!), and it was manageable while still giving me a good workout. I really appreciated there being an outdoor space to work out in, and what a lovely space! read more

After many years of taking a class here and there (I'm a long distance runner), I now have daily method incorporated in my regular workout routines. It's such a welcome 1 hour break from working 12+hour days at home sitting in a chair. I love the variety of teachers, styles and music. You don't get bored and always feel strong and stretched after each class. Highly recommend!! read more

Kicked my booty! It's always a challenging workout here, the straight barre class is good but the fusion class is way better, I work up a good sweat and soreness with that one. Also not having many workout props help me follow the class easily Dailey Method a little less personal than The Bar Method though, there isn't as much adjustments correction/instructions here so it's a little easier to let my form go sometimes For a pretty laissez faire personality like mine, I think i'd prefer someone to call out a correction for me Overall this is an awesome workout and i'd highly recommend you try it out for the 2 week unlimited at least! read more

I have enjoyed working out at the Dailey Method for over 15 years. it was my to go place to work out!! I love it!!!

I love workouts at the Dailey Method Piedmont because they are super challenging and also a lot of fun. The instructors are all so talented and really motivate you to push yourself. I also love the outdoor pavilion that they built. Been doing DM for years and think it's a great practice. read more

Wow, I just did a drop in here last week and I'm still feeling it. What a good workout. I think I will try it one more time before I decide to join. Things I liked: Good instruction Clean facilities Nice staff Great class Things I didn't like: Being sore! read more

Susan and her team of instructors are really amazing. They are super patient even with people like me, a novice who needs lots of teacher support! The environment is really positive and welcoming, and it will make you so much stronger and more flexible even after just a few classes. The outdoor workout area they built in Summer of 2022 is the nicest fitness space I have ever experienced...it's a joy to take classes there. read more

I like this place! I am still relatively new to Barre and this was the first studio I tried, and I haven't stopped going since. Kelly and Angela are my favorite instructors! They are so nice and patient, and they make you feel confident even if you're totally screwing up the form. They make sure to correct you when needed but not make you feel bad. read more

I am not a Lululemon-covered yoga chick. I like my workouts hard, sweaty, and with minimal time to ponder on any discomfort that I may be feeling. Therefore, The Dailey Method is not the type of exercise that I normally gravitate towards. But because my sweaty cardio workouts were not as well rounded as I knew they should be, I decided to challenge myself and do the $100 unlimited month at TDM. I figured that although I might hate it, I would force myself to do it as much as possible, because I'm also sort of cheap and hate wasting money. You give me unlimited, I'll TAKE unlimited. Bring it, Dailey! It was brought. I sucked it up, suffered through the first few miserably shaky classes where I thought that either my legs were going to fall off or I was going to throw up all over the barre (or both), and I can honestly say that I began to see results within the first couple of weeks. I even got sort of addicted to trying to do everything "just right", and the focus on form and breathing helped to take my mind off of all of the pain. Two months in, I'm really proud of how much I've shaped up. I like to think that my newfound muscle is helping me burn off even more calories in my hard-core cardio workouts, and guess what? I can do a pull-up! I was always the kid in gym class who just hung off of the the pull-up bar limply, so to be able to do a pull-up (three even!) is proof positive that the Dailey Method is doing something right. read more

What makes the Dailey Method go above and beyond is their commitment to their customers, responsiveness and CARE for their clients. Not only are all their instructors excellent, but the owners, Susan and Kerry clearly deeply care about the safety and wellbeing of their clients. They were one of the first studios in the Bay Area to require vaccinations to attend classes, and are always so responsive and flexible via email etc. The Berkeley studio is very airy and has wonderful circulation. The instructors are all clearly well trained and pay a lot of individual attention to participants, even over Zoom. Shauna in particular kicks my butt and I feel like I'm getting a 1-1 personal training session. Kyle always puts a smile on my face and while I haven't taken the owner's classes, I'm sure they are fantastic as well. I love that they also offer outdoor classes. Thank you to Dailey Method for actually caring about the health of their clients, keeping a consistent good workout method rather than just raking in the dough. Give them a try! read more

I got up early this morning for my first class. Everyone was very friendly. This is the only class I've ever gone to where it was all women. Most of whom were wearing boot cut black yoga pants. It is pricey when compared to most yoga classes in the area [which are usually 90 mins long, so this is def. more per minute]. I don't know why, but they make you wear socks. That seems weird to me, I usually don't put socks on unless I'm putting shoes on next. There's not a lot of down time, you're constantly moving. I sweated some, but no where near the buckets of sweat that a power yoga class produces. This class was deceptively challenging. PS - I'm going back at least twice this week, I can feel my muscles were getting defined during this class! read more

I was an avid dancer with shot knees well into my 50s, but knew I had to one day give it up. But what do I do instead? A friend recommended I try TDM, so I started July 2012. It has been a turning point in my life. TDM gives you a powerful and intense workout if you do it right, and fortunately you have encouraging supportive, fun-loving and great instructors to take you through--and they let you go at a pace you can be comfortable with yet challenging enough to change you. I let them know first thing about my bum knees and they helped me work out with adjustments to the exercises to gradually build up strength in my quads, inner thighs and hamstrings -- areas that are hard to tone doing Pilates only (and that can get expensive!!) After over a year, I am over my fear issues that distorted my posture and aggravated my knees, and I am doing the workouts as they intend! I am not only getting the strength and toning I need, but I am also conquering long-held fears that were issues for me physically. I think that's enough cause for not only confidence but celebration. I also see the changes in my body, how my clothes fit me better, and I am not only fitting into, but ROCKING the dresses I've had for over a decade, having built and directed my curvy curves to all the right places, thank you very much to TDM. I am a Core Member, which at $175/month, going four times a week, breaks down to $10.+ per class. That is cheaper than a dance class and way cheaper than Pilates!! If it sounds as if I am addicted, I am, and so be it. TDM gives you results, and as they say at TDM in Piedmont AND Berkeley, YOU are the person who gets it done! read more

What I liked: This place is conveniently located, has nice lockers, and very friendly folks. I think it's a great place for people new to barre-style workouts. The ab work is analogous to what I've done in other classes, and I think it's pretty effective. The instructor did a good job at correcting postures for the class. What I did not like as much: Unfortunately, I did not feel that the thigh, glute, and flat back/round back work were as intense as other barre classes I've taken (which usually make my legs feel like they're on fire!). I felt that as soon as my muscles *might* be starting to work hard, the sets were already done and we were moving on to a different muscle group. Also, there was not as much stretching as other classes I've taken, which kind of bummed me out. Overall, I really love barre styles, and would recommend it for anyone curious. But if you're already experienced with these type of workouts (especially ones that incorporate more yoga, like Core Fusion), I think you might find this workout missing something. read more

Susan Willrich is a focused, attentive teacher, a studio owner with high standards and a genuine, caring person. Took her class for the 2nd time (first time to test their Dailey Gentle class) during the Grand Re-Opening on December 13, 2015. Class was packed. Impressed by how she was able to maintain the pace and flow of the class while giving individual corrections and helping newcomers. No one had to get props beyond hand weights (which everyone selected before class started) so the transitions from floor to barre to floor - at one point there were bands - were all smooth. She has an eagle eye and gives clear direction and the music wasn't overly loud (though I did have earplugs as a precaution). Was glad to see I was stronger in some areas than the last time I took her class; in other areas, I was defintely challenged, like doing side plank on my forearm vs a straight arm, which I habitually do and the barre exercises made my legs feel the burn. Observed regulars (like the spin instructor in front of me) worked hard but were smiling throughout class. There was one young guy who clearly was dragged out of bed (he wore a white undershirt) by his girlfriend - my first time seeing a guy in a barre class, but no one paid him any special attention. Note: there is a unisex bathroom with a very nice urinal. You will DEFINITELY work your abs in Susan's class. I recall last time I got a huge cramp on one side of my abs and had to pause (never happened to me in any group exercise class before); this time, I was happy I did not get a cramp. (Note: I made listening to my body the goal versus doing all the reps.) I spoke to Susan post class and was struck by how easy it was to talk to her, how dedicated she is and how involved she was in the renovations. Check in is a BREEZE, if you signed in via MindBodyOnline, all you do is tap your name on the iPad mounted on the front desk. SO EASY!!! There are two lovely, super clean bathrooms and a shower. Cubbies in the front and along the hallway for shoes and automated lockers (no need to bring a physical lock; just punch in numbers) for storing things. For the Grand Re-Opening - when I checked in, I received a number of coupons and samples. Noticed there was plenty of food to nosh on - including fruit & nuts. Appreciated the healthy items as well as the chocolate and wine that was also offered to me. Lastly, the adjacent parking lot next door has spaces for 5+ cars. Free parking on Piedmont? Yay! Susan & DM Oakland are a class act. read more

So now I have been going here for a few months - and I can honestly say that I am really happy with the workout and the changes I am experiencing in my body. * Everyone is super friendly and helpful * If you go regularly (several times a week) you WILL see a difference. * The class times are convenient and it isn't too crowded * The instructors are all good - some (IMHO) are better than others at busting your butt. But then, that is pretty subjective as we all have differences of what busting really is. I highly recommend trying each instructor to find the folks that you resonate with the most and identify those that you don't resonate with. * I like that there is a set rythm to the class - after each butt buster comes a lull of stretching then another targeted area butt buster and a stretch. Here is what you should expect: 1) march in place and stretch 2) ab work 3) stretch/core 4) arm work 5) stretch/core 6) thigh/leg work 7) stretch/core 8) seat work 9) stretch/core 10) ab work Basically you spend about 5 - 8 minutes doing each focus area and since this is a combo of pilates, ballet barre work and yoga - even though you are focusing on target areas you are also still engaging the other muscles so you get a total body workout. read more

I signed up for the $100/month trial membership promo and so far, I LOVE this class! My workout routine of 40 min cardio sessions mon-fri at the gym was starting to get stale so I was looking forward to a new workout. I've never been a big fan of fitness classes since working out is time consuming enough as it is and classes never seem challenging enough. Of course, I changed my mind after attending my first session at the Piedmont studio. I tried to attend about 3/week and there was visible results in muscle tone within 2 wks. The Dailey Method is a combination of pilates, yoga, and ballet barre work to help strenthen core muscles and tone all over. During the one hour class, targeted areas range from arms, back, shoulders, seat, abs, and thighs. The instructors are all great, they have their own styles and the workouts are always varied so you don't get stuck in a routine. If you want good workout alternative to the gym, this is def it. Its not a Yoga class, so you will sweat and you will use all your muscles. The class sizes range from 5-15, a nice comforable environment where its not as intense as a 1-1 pilates class. read more

I really like this place...as a supplement to my existing workout routine. I don't know how people can lose weight off this or seriously tone..because it's difficult but not really challenging. You are not in cardio mode to burn fat and the resistance is not much to really build muscle (although light weights in super sets are done). I know the key is position and technique (which done properly does make a big difference)...so it does depend on the instructors. Some are good and some are way better..but everyone is friendly. Lot of classes to fit everyone's schedule. Most of the participants here are of average size and I have not encountered anyone close to being obese.....so it is my assumption that only a certain type of girls come here. TDM (The Dailey Method) is it's own type of barre exercise..but it is a cross between yoga and pilates as in movements (and Calisthenics from what I remember from the 80's) with a little sprinkle of ballet warm up. However, I don't see even the advance variations of the exercises being as challenging as advance yoga poses. Again, I really do enjoy it...however, one star off because it is SO very expensive. At $20.00 a single session (on average..cheaper if you buy more or do unlimited)..I am not sure if it is worth it. I have the Pop Physique DVD's (which is pretty much the same type of exercise) and it works well..for me. I will definitely be back for a few sessions here and there...when I can justify paying for it again..but for now I will have to do the poor woman's version: at home. One reason why I am still interested in TDM is because it does help me with engaging my core and posture. With hours in front of the computer and commute stress...it's very therapeutic after a nice session in the studio to relieve and correct. It almost feels like a massage to me. I encourage to try it out. They have great 30 day intro specials and also I have seen Gilt City and other Groupon like sites offer promos. read more

Great workout! Harder than any other class or bootcamp I've taken... I definitely feel stronger and toned. Meghan and Robin are awesome instructors. Super nice, motivating, patient and helpful. I can't do any of the moves right (despite taking more than 15 classes.. Sad but true)... But they're always there to correct you with a smile. Everyone needs to try Dailey method :) read more

I used to think that I needed a trainer, to lift weights, run, etc. etc. I've been to Dailey Method twice now and I've seen more changes in my body than months of weight lifting! The staff here is so friendly and helpful. I took a class with Blake this morning and when she saw me struggling, she encouraged me to keep trying - telling me I could do it and adjusting my positioning as necessary. I FEEL AMAZING!!! So full of energy and tight. The class is really tough - working muscles you didn't know you had but what I love the most is the stretching after each set. I bought an introductory monthly unlimited pass for $100, my plan is to try to take 10 classes within a month. Wish me luck or better yet, come join me! read more

I just got home from Day 2 of my $100 unlimited month trial, and this class is kicking my boo-tay, but I love it. It's a great workout for anyone who wants to increase their strength and flexibility and I like a workout that primarily uses your own body resistance. I haven't worked out at all in the past year and was a bit worried about starting up again. This morning, I was definitely stiff and sore, but in a decent way - not the "I can't even walk down stairs kind of way." Both instructors that I've had so far are great - they help correct form and don't scowl at you if you have to sit out a few reps or put your weights down (both of which I've had to do). Better yet, they remember your name and tell you when you're doing something well. I'm trying to attend class a minimum of 4 days/week and can't wait to see how by body will be at the end of the month. If you've been thinking of giving the Dailey Method a try, go for it! read more

Let me just say upfront that me and my Lululemon pants are addicted to this place for better or worse. The Dailey Method is a great place to get an incredibly efficient workout. I've yet to find another workout with similar results that keeps me coming back and only takes an hour. Most of the instructors are terrific, the location is convenient, the place is clean and the class times accommodates a wide range of schedules. Bottom line: If you keep at it, your body will change.... One caution: if you don't pay attention to your body, you can really hurt yourself. If something hurts (like your knees), don't push it. The instructor (depending on class size) may not be able to make an appropriate correction. On a humorous note, this place is definitely a favorite of the Piedmont set but is slowly becoming more diverse. As such, its a place to embrace your inner Margaret Mead during the goings and comings before and after class. A totally tattoed woman was wondering out loud in a weekday morning class if everyone else was hung-over. (I'm pretty sure that the stay at home moms weren't!). At the end of the day, I keep going back. Its not inexpensive, but the results are worth it. read more

I first started TDM ( now known as, "High and Tight" to my friends and I ) 4 years ago. In three months I lost so much weight and gained so much STRENGTH I was amazed. Then again, I was walikin outta there with wet-noodle-like legs and pretty exhausted, but this workout is THE best I have ever found, and I have tried MANY. The instructors are funny and nice but better yet are really well informed and constantly go around and check your posture- which I really appreciate since I had a pretty intense back injury. When I work out I want to FEEL it , I want to SWEAT, I want to leave it all on the MAT and at TDM that's exactly what it's all about. In the beginning it is tough to keep up, but in 4 classes, you start to get the hang of it. :) I am excited to see the remodel of the Piedmont studio! I love it the way it is- cozy and intimate, but sure, it could do with a few upgrades. Big shout out to my most favorite instructor, Teresa!!! She kicks your butt with a genuine smile on her face- and she is by far the funniest, most 'real' instructor I have found. Great attitude, very personable, great teacher. As you can see I have only positive things to say about TDM. It kicks your ass....but it feels so good! read more

This was my first visit to the class and I have not worked out on 5 months. it troubled me to dive into intense stretches without much of a warm up. I naturally felt quite stiff and not as flexible due to lack of recent exercise and so did not wish to push myself and cause injury. This seemed to really bother the instructor who continually kept re-showing me the moves as if I was not getting it despite explaining more than once the desire to start slowly. The music was annoying and the instructors microphone way too loud for the small space. I think this class might be useful for me when I regain my normal fitness level as a means to tone and stretch. read more

Bottom line: Your bottom will be firm and lifted from this workout. The bottom line of your checking account will be rock-hard (no pesky monthly gym charges). You will be able to eat hot-cross buns and a rump roast without guilt. All kidding aside, my overall muscle mass increased 40% in six months. My doctor is thrilled with the outcome! The strength and balance training is useful for men and women. This workout, which combines pilates, yoga and ballet barre is wildly popular in Boston. I'm grateful to have this studio in my neighborhood. Every class is different than the previous one: different teachers, different music, different positions, different people in the class (no one has "their" spot). It is a challenging workout for the novice and for the experienced alike. The Dailey Method changed my life!!! read more

This class kicked my butt! (and arms...and abs...and legs...) I was up for a visit so I chose the single class for $20. It may be a little pricey, but I think I got my money's worth. I'm so sore...but it feels good. The instructor was pleasant and gave personal attention to everyone...especially me, the newbie. The exercises were challenging, but she always offered an less strenuous option (still challenging for me though!) Apparently shaky legs are a rite of passage for the Dailey Method...and seriously, I felt like I had no control of my leg spasms. Good work out! read more

I've bounced back and forth between this location and the SF location near my office (and, admittedly, entirely away from TDM for a few months) for about a year now. I just went back to a class at Piedmont for the first time in about 6 months, and Meghan remembered my name and said "long time no see" as I struggled my sorry butt through class. :) This location, far and above the SF locations, are more friendly, welcoming, inviting.. I really love coming here. Loss of one star is only for the price-- I do wish it didn't break the bank quite as much. I really think there's no better work out in the east bay. read more

While on a short visit to Oakland I decided to take the Dailey Method as a comparison to Bar Method, which I have been doing for several years in Chicago. I have to say that although I was initially skeptical, it really is a wonderful workout. I had the pleasure of taking my fist class from Liz, whose pace and rapid transition between exercises kept my heart rate up, and a subsequent class from Teresa whose seat/back dancing workout still has me sore. I also think the attention to stretching in TDM (thank you Teresa for so patiently correcting my form over and over) is superior to that of Bar, as it is instrumental in injury prevention. The only criticism is the number of people packed into the space. It's a teeny studio and it feels cramped during push-ups and planks. Otherwise, quite fun and very challenging! Thank you ladies, I look forward to returning on my next trip. read more

I have a lot of little injuries and was looking for a great work out where I can make modifications but still get results. The Dailey Method instructors are phenomenal and focus first on alignment. At my first class, 5 years ago, the instructor told me to move my hand 4 inches forward on the bar. I remember noticing what a big difference it made in the exercise and thinking that this level attention to detail is usually something you have to pay for in private workouts. Since then, Dailey has helped me get in wedding shape, recover post pregnancy, and increase strength and tone. All those squats and lunges even translated to my beating my husband to the top of a big mountain on our honeymoon! I benefit from the online pre-recorded classes but get the best workouts at the in-person classes. Students and teachers are there to support each other. It's not at all competitive and it's very welcoming to all levels. I highly recommend! read more

I'm definitely a novice at the Dailey Method, but I'm having fun and getting an insane work-out. The classes are very challenging (muscle-shaking challenging) but they play great music and it's fun. I'm really looking forward to building upper body strength since my main exercise is jogging. I never do push-ups or abs on my own, so this is the perfect compliment to my exercise routine. I went through a time of doing a lot of yoga (and loved it), but it's fun to do something different. Since it is so tough, you kind of feel like a bad-ass when you leave. A little attitude can't hurt, right? read more

Absolutely Love this place! The instructors are amazing. The facilities are clean, new and nice. Toiletries and wash clothes post workout. Socks available if you forget them. The people are friendly and super fit. And I get the best darn workout ever. read more

Their work out is fantastic and 5 stars. Their location gets them knocked down a notch. 1 hour - and you've gotten a fully body workout. Seems easier than it is - those repitions really work your muscles. Its a 20 min. walk from the Rockridge BART - though if you are driving - there's always plenty of parking. Fees are pretty pricey - but they have a $100 introductory special. read more

I decided to switch up my workout routine. I typically workout at the gym 3-4 times a week, a combination of running the lake and lifting light weights. So I decided to try TDM. They have a special of $100 for unlimited and I'm so glad I decided to give it a try! I went yesterday for the first time, got a GOOD workout! As I'm sitting here typing this, my 'seat' is sore from yesterday. The class was much, much harder than I expected. I used muscles I never thought I had. My legs felt like they were going to fall off! There wasn't any down time, it was exercise after exercise. I had a lot of fun. I can definitely see how this class can give you results because in an hour you're getting a full body workout. I'm looking forward to seeing the results in a month. I'll be back then to post my progress :) read more

All the instructors are fantastic, Susan is a favorite but really you cant go wrong with any of them. Don't be intimidated I you're a first timer, the class is very ergonomically correct so if you're sore afterwards it's a "good sore" not a "I think I damaged myself" soreness :-) you'll be toned and trim in no time! read more

I've been here a few times through class pass. I've taken many Barre classes, but this was the first time I had taken a Gentle class and I really liked it. My friend had just had a baby and she wanted to go to a class together that wouldn't kill her. I figured after 4 spin classes that week, that I could do the same and be kind to myself while also getting in a work out. This was exactly that - it provided the perfect amount of intensity and stretch to feel like I was doing something but not like I was playing catch up to those who do Barre regularly. The instructor was also really accommodating and came around to check our alignment while offering modifications if we needed it. Really liked this slower pace to bar because it's really easy to feel like you're not getting the right work out when you're just trying to keep the beat and not the correct movement of your muscles for this type of exercise! read more

love the energy... You cannot want to NOT go bk again and again. Beside, the fact that it is little expensive. Unfortunately! As for the parking, not easy either... It is college after all... Anyhow, it is a great place and beautiful building... read more

I tried the Dailey Method a few years ago when I lived in San Francisco and liked it, but didn't end up taking it up regularly. Now that I'm pregnant, I thought that the Dailey Method would be a great way to workout and keep strong in preparation for the arrival of my baby. Problem is, I can't actually get into a class to do so. I called a few weeks ago to talk to someone to get suggestions on what classes/times would be best for someone who is basically new (it's been over 4 years or so since I tried it before) and pregnant as well as to ask what the process was for attending as a pregnant person. No one could be bothered to call me back. So this Saturday, I decided to show up with Doctor's note in hand in order to give it a try. I arrived for the 8:30 class but it was full. The woman behind the desk told me that I should come at a less busy time, especially since I was basically new, and suggested the 9:45 class. She never mentioned that I could sign up online to book a spot in the class; in fact I'm still not sure if I can do that as a new student. So, back home I went, and an hour later back into my car to show up at the 9:45 class only to find her sheepishly shrugging her shoulders at me to tell me that it was now full, too. Again, no mention of whether, as a new student, I could sign up online. I said to her- "so there's basically no way for a new student to start except to keep showing up and hoping for room." She said " Yes. You could try the 11:00 class." As if want to spend my entire Saturday driving back and forth to the studio to see if I can maybe get into a class. I would be perfectly happy to sign up online and book my class just like everyone else, but the woman behind the desk has made it seem as if my only option as a new student is to keep showing up and hoping I'm lucky enough to get in. This is the most crazy process I have ever seen. Guess they're just so overflowing they can't be bothered to welcome a new student to their studio. Oh well, I'll find another workout for during and after my pregnancy. Hopefully the Bar method studio on Lakeshore will be more welcoming. read more
