Rich saved my butt AGAIN on Cinco de Drinko when I was involved in a hit & run collision on 580-E. He dropped what he was doing and hopped in the tow truck and braved the Maze at rush hour to come collect my damaged motorcycle so I could take a light with the nice men in the van with flashy lights for an xray. The EMTs and CHP were amazed at how efficiently he had the motorcycle loaded up - and then he turned around to return to Berkeley and face the traffic again going in the other direction! I had Cycle-Tow pick up my scooter from Oakland and tow it to a repair shop in SF (no one else can do electric scooter repairs). I called around to several places for quotes and got the most reasonable deal with them. Best of all - after it was repaired, I called them again the NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING with a desperate plea to see if I could get it towed home again (it can't go on the highway) because I had planned to lend it to a friend in the city but it fell through last minute and I had nowhere to park it. I never got his name but the tow guy got my text as he was headed from SF onto the bay bridge, turned around just in case I was available right then (I hadn't specified) and met me within ten minutes to save my whole night. When Bill strapped the motorcycle to the truck, he triple checked all of his work and was extra careful when handling the bike. He was also SMILING throughout the whole encounter! The whole experience was fantastic. One really cool thing about the truck was the equipment. The truck was equipped with special mechanics to load/ unload the motorcycle. I am blessed to have found Rich @ Cycle-Tow! What a guy! I feel like one of the few sorority-style chicks that have an M1 license and a bike and I was all alone dealing with a variety of issues and needed a tow. I called around, and it was a disaster. Some of the tow men wanted to charge me 3x the going rate and a few were just total pricks that actually scared me a bit. It sucks to be taken advantage of simply because you are a young single woman dealing with a mostly male based industry. From my initial contact with Rich, I could tell he was genuine, respectful, safe, and professional. Rich really is the best. He saved the day. My scooter had to be moved ASAP as my building was planning to tow it. Of course, nothing is ever easy....everything went to sh*t: I had to change the date and time on him 3x, when I tried to bring it out to him to tow, my scooter was DEAD (WTF!!!?), and the garage was too low for his truck to come get it (my fault). So, he had to wait for me to literally push it into my elevator and out to the street. The whole time I also had my 17 year old nearly deaf and blind dog with me - seriously adding to the drama and complicating everything. When he was loading it, it started sprinkling, and the air was super hazardous from the fires - exactly where we were headed to with the scooter...not awesome conditions. He was amazing. He didn't stress about any of the changes and disasters (even though I was close to hysterical); he was patient and helped me sort out all of the unforeseen issues. He gave calm, great suggestions and solutions. He arrived right on time (even a few minutes early), and communicated often with me via text and phone to confirm and discuss how to handle some of the snafus. The best part is that when we arrived to the 76 station on the side of the road in Sonoma County, rather than him just leaving me to deal in my car that had my old dog, in the heat, and the nearby fires, and my dead motorcycle scooter sitting there in the dirt, he stayed there with me for a long time trying to help me kick-start the bike. He tried many, many times, and he finally did it! He is the real deal - a true bike hero, and overall, just really a seriously good man - honest, friendly, and straight-forward. His prices are completely reasonable (and I tipped him out more for all of his help - he def earned it and you should tip him too!) and he is trustworthy, precise, and incredibly reliable. Today I had to help a client whose husband and daughter were injured when a minivan struck his Harley in Oakland. We had to get it moved from A&B tow yard in Oakland to a private residence. (It's another story about how the City and tow yard profit off victims' misery.) I had no idea on the size of the Harley. The operator quoted me $125 earlier in the week and stuck to the quote. So Cycle Tow, on short notice, sent two men down to the tow yard. The bike did not role. The two employees wrestled with the bike but got it stationary and up on the lift without doing further damage. They then drove the bike to the residence and gently off-loaded it from the lift. Not only did the company honor its quote but they were efficient, polite and understanding of the client's suffering. I got a flat and had to call for a tow. It was around 8pm on a weeknight when I called. Rich picked up immediately and even let me be difficult about when he came to collect me (I had to fit in dinner with a friend first). He has a flat bed trailer and he made sure it was in there nice and snug. The tow was only $50, which is a great deal. After some wrangling (I live out of the way, and wanted someone to pick me up early, so I wouldn't miss work), I convinced myself that Cycle Tow was going to flake on me. So I called another motorcycle tow place. "Whaaat, no way, Rich is your man!" So I called back, and my scooter was on the truck less than 40 minutes later. The truck is set up for two-wheelers. Way easier and faster than the time AAA sent a flat bed truck slick with antifreeze. I'm glad I forwent AAA this round, and called someone with the right equipment. I cannot tell you how Grateful I am that I found (through the route of my frustrating AAA service), Cycle Towing. More importantly, I am beyond thankful for the amazing service I received by Richard Gibbon. Last night my motorcycle battery died and left me stranded in Alameda Point. Naturally I called my AAA service to either jump my battery or tow to my residence. 3 hours later with no updates, I was told their dispatch was unable to find me a tow. I left my Harley Davidson hoping no one would steal it. This morning, back at Alameda Point on hold with AAA for yet another 2 hours. I gave the shop 4 stars instead of 5 because Though I did receive all that I had asked for including excellent service from an expert staff, pricing that beat other local estimates, and the fact that my bike was squeezed in to their work schedule when I had an emergency--I did not receive a laté nor did I receive a massage while waiting for my bike. They also did not provide baby sitting services for my child, or my cat while I waited. I was extremely disappointed that I wasn't given comic books to read, or a feather pillow for my ass while the technicians installed my awesome new battleaxe tires and powercomander. If you're looking for a shop that is accommodating for your motorcycle and towing needs, this is your place. If you need pampering or perhaps counseling services, this is not the place. read more

I left my park light on all day and drained the battery. The guys at Ace Ducati recommended Cycle Tow in Berkeley. The man showed up, and was totally cool. No need to rub salt into the wound of a Ducati rider. HIs rig was killer and we were off in no time. It was afterhours, so he needed cash, so swung by my bank. Up the hill to the house. I have a super steep driveway but that was no problem. He backed that tricked truck up to the carport and deftly unloaded the bike. He also has his own service shop and has raced so his assurance that the trickle charge should get me back on the street was cool. Great service, and cool guy. read more

i believe this business is affiliated with and is at the same location as 'berkeley performance motorcycles'. i had my first bike, a 250 ninja, towed by rich about 7 years ago, and the service was efficient and super friendly. rich is a really nice guy. we chatted about bikes on the drive to his shop; he is easy to chat with. the tow out-of-pocket was $50 if i recall correctly. 5 years or so later, i had the bike towed again, by another member of his staff. i don't recall his name (eric?) -- a friendly brown-haired guy in his twenties? -- but he was very friendly and chatty too. the bike that second time was towed from my work's parking lot. both times, a proper motorcycle towing rig was used, and the guys knew what they were doing and didn't need me to do anything to help. the bike was ready in a matter of days (from berkeley performance motorcycles). i have mo-tow now with the ama, but if i needed to call a towing service directly while in the east bay, cycle-tow would be my choice ! read more
